My sis was dr Drew's patient at Las encinas hospital I believe he saved her life, for many years. Dr drew literally taught us families on the weekend, in a classroom setting, about the addiction taking over our loved ones. My sis did not really listen to dr drew when he told her to wait on taking anti depressants so she could really know what drove her addictions. She wanted the anti depressants bc her mental state was more than she could bear. Las encinas did wonders for her, giving her 15 yrs more of life before she took her own life. I don't think she would have lasted another day had Las encinas not accept her

I am so sorry that happened to you. I was there during Dr Drew’s reign. He overemphasized trading addiction to drugs to addiction to a cult. It is sad that because of his love of AA there are no other options. It was hell at Las Encinas. For a number of reasons, but worse is being in the shadow of 12 Step. I had a belly full of that crap. It is slowly being discredited as new theories on mental illness and substance abuse emerge. Las Encinas is lousy with Dr Drew. The “experts” at LE only gave me a few days of Librium when they “withdrew” me from Benzos. I went through months of having withdrawal symptoms. Everyone is an addict to them. They preached that addiction a disease you are stuck with.

Whoever needs to hear this... I was able to put down my addiction with the help of anti-anxiety/depression meds and therapy... and YES... Jesus's God. I would NOT be alive if I had not chose to embrace and study The Teachings of Jesus in The New Testament of The Bible DAILY. The goal is not to be on perscription meds forever unless you REALLY need it. Addiction is a symptom of Pain from A Deep Emotional/Psychological Wound... or mental illness. The root of the wound needs to be healed. Just whatever you do... NEVER give up. Jesus's God is NEVER giving up on YOU. He is WAITING for you to pour Him your heart... with what He already knows. He WANTS your troubles... people are not gods... Jesus's God of The Holy Spirit IS.

    • @billmcgubbins1476
      @billmcgubbins1476 Год назад

Trauma is normal and common for 99.99% of all life on earth, let alone people. Only postmodern western societies are able to pretend that trauma (and by proxy, any discomfort of any kind) isnt normal and common. And also the same societies attempt to erase all trauma from existence and the results speak for themselves. People live 20 years never having seen any type of adversity AT ALL suddenly realize that the world (and all life) is sculpted by trauma and pain. And then go on shooting rampages or kill themselves. Everything is needed in balance. ☯️ can't have happiness without pain. Cannot have ecstasy without trauma. Trauma is REQUIRED in order to put life into perspective.

Walk a mile in my shoes and see how many skills you have to ‘deal with it’. Trauma changes you. Trauma that begins before birth and continues well into adulthood compounds. It is not trauma + trauma. It is trauma x trauma.
RESPONSES to trauma are necessary for survival. Over time, we become wired for survival, not everyday living. It takes the right information, the right support and the right strategies to overcome. And only then can you find the resources you need to confront what has actually happened to you. The abuse, the betrayal, the abandonment. You have to find the courage to live, every day, with the grief. The grieving that never, ever ends. Because you have lost so much: your sense of safety and security, your sense of self, your ability to trust in other people. AND WHILE YOU ARE GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS, you have to make the choice, every single day, to be in a world that is full to the brim with people who can and do inflict this kind of pain on others. You have to find a way to feel safe in a world that you know is not.
So keep your stupid creeds to yourself. If you had walked this path, you wouldn’t be so f’ing flippant.

Thank you Dr. Drew for your support of maintaining family for a child’s stability . Although I had a few traumas when I was young , my divorce at age 49, after 23 years of marriage , heightened the trauma again and shook up our son whom had just turned 21 . Now 22 years later my son , his son ( our grandson) and his mom live in my house. It’s cost me a lot of my savings but their family is intact and I think it’s provided some stability for my grandson. I’m broke financially because I used their inheritance for them while I’m still alive. I’ve prayed about this over and over .

Why do you think that money you worked for and saved is his inheritance? I don't like to see adults sacrificing themselves while they are alive, just to have a bunch if money to leave kids. Let them earn their own. I encouraged my mom to take trips and spend her money while she was alive. There was very little left when she passed but I didn't care, it was hers to enjoy.

As a parent, I'm glad its being taught. There is nothing wrong with being able to name your emotions, understand how they make you feel, and have coping skills. A lot of adults can't do this. It's not excusing the bad behavior, it's giving you the information to best work with the bad behaviors. My kidd has ODD. I never went to therapy as a kid for various reasons, I don't have that diagnosis. I just called it my f you streak. And there are times I tell myself to just shut up and do the thing but I cannot make myself do it past that point. And part of it is kids learn that they are people too who have a say over their feelings and bodies, and that is very frustrating for adults who want them to be like well trained dogs because we all grew up with the idea that children are required to obey instantly.

I have felt that way for decades and I believe they are the same because neither have any morals tho it's for different reasons. This podcast though added another dimension to it because both are addicted and I hadn't really thought of the addictions of the wealthy but it's quite obvious. Their addictions are to money to security which is a false security and to being number one and destroying anyone else who comes in their path that may threaten it in any way shape or form.
I remember working in a temp job and the boss woman who was also temp looked at me and she said--I know what you're thinking.
AND I thought: it was about noon & was thinking about lunch. HOW does she know that? She was worried about me because I was much smarter than her it seems. And I have to credit her with noticing that which I hadn't even thought about that till now. BUT I guess she thought I was smarter than her and I probably was, just saying😉 but I was only thinking about lunch. I certainly wasn't thinking about taking her dhitty little temp job. AND
then she called me into her office and she said: YOUR analysis on these legal documents is so different than-- and she named this young guy. I thought-- YEAH, so what? I knew that his would probably be pretty superficial although he was planning to be a lawyer. I could tell from his personality he wasn't exactly in possession of great depth in any way, shape or form. THAT was her reason for firing me. Pretty crazy but that's how they are when they get power and she wasn't even an elite, even more dangerous if she had been.

Besides the problems he lists, one of the other problems is that many judges do not see mental abuse when it is right before their eyes, being testified about in court! They don’t see narcissism, or even worse, misogyny! My ex was a classic misogynist that turned into almost psychopathic control and abuse over his family. The judge couldn’t even recognize it, and my attorney had to school him for the future.

Wow, just WOW. !!!I'm so glad I came across this deeply meaningful video, especially on this subject matter.
I'm 36 yrs sober at 58 yrs old. Mercifully I got sober at 21 which was a MIRACLE. I started drinking suicidally and doing drugs after a brutal gang sexual assault at age 12 by 15 adult drunken men. After being left for dead I was finally able to escape my confinement. I was set up for this by two jealous sisters who wanted to cause me direct harm because a boy liked Me and not them because I was a white girl, which made me a trophy to the boy of 15 from a very different culture than mine. I remained suicidal into my mid 30's when I finally reached out for serious professional help. I under went both cognitive behavioral therapy and prolonged exposure which altered the course of my life from that point forward. The lesson I learned midway through the program was life-changing for me. That message was, that I was not the product of what happened to me and that my past did not have to dictate my future.. that I could not go back in time to stop what happened but I could go back and learn how to better process what happened to me in a healthy controlled way. I was interviewed at that time and was part of an article that was written for the FDA Journal of Medicine on the effects of PTSD and rape with these specialized therapies.
When I got sober I entered a 12-step program which gave me the accountability, cohesiveness in fellowship with other people who were like-minded, and high success rate of 75% in 1987 and learning to articulate my thoughts and emotions in a controlled group setting, that was governed by rules of conduct, and that was not judgmental which was very therapeutic, and statistically replacing people places and things was paramount. All that Dr Drew spoke about and WHY I was able to have success in my recovery from my first day and not relapse. In the Big Book it talks about that 'being spared the last 10 to 15 years of literal hell that others had gone through'. It's true for Me. Without the accountability component and the natural healthy progression in recovery through the 12 steps, I would not be the successful person that I am today in my recovery. My relationships 🙄 have always been complicated both personal and romantic and regrettably I have not had great success with either. My family is just as dysfunctional as it's always been. I am however able to look at each person in the family and recognize that each person responded to what was being presented to them in a different way, based on their character and personality as well as environmental factors. That we all do not perceive or process things in the same way. Both of my parents came from unhappy unhealthy homes and did not have good role models and so they themselves were not good role models, in fact there were very few good role models in my life for happy homes. I was a product of divorce at the age of 10.
My life today is not perfect, in fact I'm presently homeless living in a motel with my adult son the last year. I am now physically disabled as well as having chronic PTSD (which is under control) but have recently been assessed by a psychiatrist and he believes that I have a new diagnosis of PTSD based on my life in the last 7 years since I became physically disabled and my entire life got flipped upside down culminating to me being here and this tiny little room with my service dog and cat and son, thank God for my son. The house that we lived in for the last 10 years was sold and there are extenuating circumstances surrounding all THAT mess with family members at which time I had to set very stern boundaries for myself and I blocked every person aside from my two sons on social media and have not had connection to them in over a year. I needed to do that for my own mental Health and well being. So because I am homeless and there are lots of people here that are homeless, I counsel with them when asked. Being homeless is not for the faint of heart no matter what caused it especially with the stigmatism that comes with it even though there are many middle class Americans today that are facing homelessness or hitting homeless because of our current economy and the mortgage prices and market failure and the rent increases due to covid and the moratorium on evictions.
I, like Dr Drew, am an optimist historically in My life which has been a saving Grace for Me. I believe that the world is a beautiful place and they're a beautiful people in it but that there is also evil and people that I cannot account for ..my mind goes numb thinking about it, it just not make sense to me, the hatred, the bias, all of it.. the sickens my soul.
It feels like so many people in our country are in a free fall and if there are no people there to catch them, that actually care about them, those people will be lost and THAT that is a shame.
So again thank you so much for doing this interview and for the transparency by Dr Drew and for You as the host, I thank you so much and I will share it with people that I work with.
I am a Spiritual Life Coach/Sponsor/Mentor for 35 years and have had success in helping countless people on their road to recovery and changing of negative destructive behavioral issues to be able to have a more healthy lives, make better choices, find themselves within themselves. After years of suggestion I am finally writing a book on My life experiences on 'what doesn't work'! I think that will be the title LOL. Thank you both again and God bless you.

I have grown tired of the notion that low self esteem is the cause of violence, bullying, and narcissism. In the real world, predators look down on their prey, and feel they have a right to impose their will on another. In geopolitics you never see a weak country, and culture, that invades its neighbors in order to take their land and resources. It's always the countries, and cultures, that think they are superior, and deserve to have what others own. Look no further than the line of David in the Old Testament for a perfect example. You see the same thing happening with the global Oligarchy, who think they are the superior race - the race of the rich. They believe they are so superior that they deserve to have it all, while telling the rest of humanity that by 2030 we'll "own nothing and be happy."

Parents need Jesus Christ. The world needs Jesus Christ. I am a parent who has Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of severe childhood trauma. My life was a mess when I became pregnant with him. I gave my life to Jesus Christ at the age of 25, when my son was 2 years old. He is now 24 and is a strong, kind and capable adult. He made the decision never to drink alcohol when he was in his teens. My son has his own faith in Jesus Christ and, because of this, he has fantastic boundaries. He doesn’t compromise who he is to belong. When I look at my son, I see a miracle.

I am a retired shrink practiced in nyc for decades and i used to say to my male patients( they only came in for sexual problems ),that it was strength not weakness to be honest with self or others about negative emotions like fear, worthlessness, etc..I encouraged them to start mens support groups 40 yrs ago, this argument about redefining what male strength is was right on, it is hard for men to do this, so it takes courage and that is male strength!

This is one of my favorite episodes, Dr.Drew is so personable and explains everything well. He does a good job explaining how the media is impacting our society today. As the parent of three young adults this was informative and relevant.

IKR. Dr Drew is like one of the nicest people ever. Its very strange to see the people who pride themselves on how kind and compassionate and intelligent they are have such extreme vitriol for him.

As a paramedic in the late 70s, I noticed a pattern in the way we were treated by wealthy and poor patients. It was one of disrespect for what we were doing for them. Later, as a RN working in ERs, a pattern emerged, primarily among the indigent, as the wealthy did not frequent the facilities that I worked in, of bipolarity being a very frequent comorbidity among those who were frequent fliers or came in for minor, non-emergent issues. These are the factors that strain the system that we have. Furthermore, there is a disconnect in the type of care and the use of resources by these populations. Not only would handling a lot of ‘nonemergent’ emergency room and ambulance calls be more cost efficient through use of primary care physicians and/or urgent care clinics, but the comorbidities of mental health could be better treated. Of course, this would impact the earnings of corporate run medical facilities and their patient mining with massive ERs, but we have to face the facts of how the healthcare dollar is spent, whether it is private pay, insurance, or tax-funded. More attention needs to be brought to very frequent mental health issues that Dr Drew reveals and our lack of addressing them appropriately.

@Pepe Pupu mental illness is part of mental health. If you don’t treat mental health as well as physical health, the potential for illness increases. When illness, either mental or physical is s present, then a decent system is needed to treat it by curing it or reducing its negative impact. Our system is split between the two aspects of health, but our bodies and minds are not. We do not practice holistic care and we don’t have continuity of care in what we do practice. Forty plus years in the field and all I see is a decline in how we manage healthcare.

Getting rid of the hospitals make sense as to why we have no help or not enough room for people who need help now. Like people that needed help, before a mass shooting.
