    Hey Guys, I have been playing Blueprints for about a month. I love them more every time I hit them. I’m a 20 handicapper. I hit them as good or as bad as anything I’ve tried. But I do hit more good shots with them. On the course they sound better than my old Mizuno MP 30 cavity backs.
    People shouldn’t be afraid of blades at any handicap. They are very rewarding.

      @worldwide1873 4 года назад +6

      Mel Waller 8 handicapper here. I just ordered my first set of blades. Had a change of heart when I hit them. Sure they are a little less forgiving, but the buttery pure feel is so incredibly rewarding. Can’t wait till they arrive. I used to think it’s all about shooting the lowest score possible, which it is, but I also realized how serious I was taking golf and how this pure strike feeling made me realize I was missing out on just having fun and enjoying the good strikes. Hope that makes sense. Good on ya for playing what you want!

      worldwide1873 i hear your man, im a 9 but i have the ball striking of a scratch as i use to be a 4 when i was 16 (now 29) but a very serious injury at 17 (rotator cuff) and even more serious injury at 20 (accident shattered ribs, collapsed lung, liver puncture, and metal 1mm from spine still in me to this day) caused me to quit golf for all of my early to mid 20s. But i teach golf so i was never far. Got back into playing in 2017 , and always avoided blades because a teammate in high school had mizuno mp32s , he was the top player in the state of maryland won states twice in high school and i never hit his irons well. I tried the blueprints for the hell of it and flushed every single shot 7 iron was going 167-171 carry , it was so beautiful and they look amazing. Sound didn’t even notice feel was amazing, tried the P790 T200 MP20 JPX919 all 4 were terrible. The mizuno irons are over rated in my opinion, and T200s are too long , T100s are great but expensive lol 790s are too long and offset. Blueprints is exactly what i think of when i say a pros iron. I gamed Ping i5s my whole life almost so im partial to ping i guess but i hated the i710 i210 and i500 soooooo
      i went with Srixon Z785s but if i keep playing more and get back down to a 5ish i wouldn’t be surprised to see my first set of blades ever be blueprints

    35 years ago there were only really 2 classes of clubs - blades and genuine cavity backs (Ping eye and anser / slazenger / crap). Cavities were for Older guys or Casual players. If you were serious and say 45 or younger you got blades as it forced you to practice and be a better striker of the ball. I wonder how much better the average serious golfer would be today if there were still only really 2 classes of irons?
    I remember going for a fitting with my local pro around 21 years ago (I was 31) and I wasn’t playing that much. He talked to me about what I wanted, we tried some sets, he was playing Hogan Apex Blades (the last of the models before Callaway bastardised them), and he said try these your easily good enough and they will make you want to practice and play, and don’t believe all the rubbish about forgiveness if you miss the centre by 5-10 mm the result on any iron is gonna be crap.
    2 weeks later I put a set of 3-E with Hogan 3 shafts in the bag and played some of the best golf I have ever played for the next 5 years and wanted to play.
    I’m now 53 and play once a fortnight. I’ve come back to blade type clubs (Mizuno MP20 HMB) after years of playing Ping i15, I’m doing more practice and starting to striking the ball much better, the look and feel makes you want to concentrate and swing properly.
    In my opinion, we shouldn’t let anyone who wants to be serious younger than 30 play with anything but proper blades and learn how to be a great striker.

    It’s interesting to see Matt adjust immediately to one thin shot with the Titleist head. There are a lot of little moments in these videos where you can see a small adjustment and learn from it.
    Both clubs look nice but the thought of trying to get around a golf course with them brings me back to my senses.

    i hit the blueprint today for the hell of it because i saw it laying there while tearing clubs lol. And holy shit i’ve always avoided blades, it was not difficult to hit at all, 7 iron going 175 yards. Felt great , i was impressed. It was crazy to hit the T200 after and it was so much easier to flush after going 205 lol

    Having played Mizuno MP-33’s, Ping i5’s, then MP-67’s, then back to 33’s before picking up my MP-18’s last year I was SUPER Excited for Blueprint. You video validated my experience in demoing them. I hit 3 shots dead center and for me they were some of the hardest, worst feeling irons I have ever hit. On the first ball I hit I thought I had almost shanked it low in the heel of the face, only to be surprised I had flushed it.

    I love my blueprints! I tried a lot of different irons before I got them, and I really was not a fan of the Titleist or mizuno players irons/blades. I think that the blueprint is one of the softest clubs out there for me.

    Blueprint is the one out of these two. Never seem to care for the feel of Titleist irons. The Ping looks so cool and is a lot easier to hit than it looks like. Has nice weighting. Feels fantastic.

      Looks can’t get a whole lot better. Don’t know why they went with hollow head vs one piece forged on this type of iron though. If you don’t mind the firmer feel vs. stuff like Mizuno and Titleist, they’ll perform just as well. Also, thanks for your service. Edit: guess they aren’t hollow that’s just a weighting screw! Fooled me haha...

    For anyone interested in just how much smaller the head is on the PING Blueprint vs. Mizuno MP20, Titleist blade, all other blades, etc. ... I was curious so I just went down to my local Club Champion fitting location and compared them all to the PING. The PING is maybe smaller overall by a millimeter in all directions. So it is negligible. I held them all side by side to the PING and in reality they all, even the PING, seem to have the same amount of surface area on the face. The toe of the PING is slightly more squared off toward the topline and it gives the impression that the toe to heel length is shorter than all the rest but I am guessing that if one measured from the back of the hosel at a right angle to the end of the toe it would be very close if not exactly the same length as all the others. Currently produced blades are significantly larger than blades of even the late 1980's and early 1990's. For example, if you compare any currently produced blades from any manufacturer, even Miura (they had a Miura MB 101 on the shelf so I made the same comparison), to a Ben Hogan Apex "Redline" model from 1988 or even the Apex "Redline Forged" model from 1992 (I have a set of each) the Hogan's heads are significantly smaller and easier to swing. I also have a set of Mizuno MP 14's and the 1-iron in that set is about the same size as the Hogan Apex "Redlines" (both models) and maybe even a tad smaller. I can guess why manufacturers have gradually made this change but in my opinion it is too bad for players that can notice the difference. The smaller headed, original blades of years gone by are much easier to maneuver. I also have a set of Bridgestone J15 MB irons and I would venture to guess that these are the smallest contemporary blades that have been produced in the last 30 years. I bought mine in 2015 and I think this might have been the last year that they made them. One more note on the Miura MB 101. This may be the shortest of all the current blades if one is measuring 90 degrees from the back of the hosel to the end of the toe but the problem with the Miura is that it is too high when measuring from the sole to the topline. I think this is what creates an optical illusion that gives one the impression that the length of the club is short. Again, by the looks of it even the MB 101 has the same face surface area as all the rest of the current blade models. I would like to see how small the Miura "Baby Blades" are compared to current model blades. I did a search to see if they are discontinued for good and found this post at golfwrx from August 1, 2021: "I'd sent a note to Miura asking about BB's. They told me they expect them to be on a 3 year release cycle. Though a firm date for next release not yet determined, but they are not discontinued." If I can find a set on eBay at a reasonable (hold your laughter, please.) I may pick them up but that will probably never happen.

    You summed it up very well re: PING irons. I have always wanted to play a set of them (Something about the mystique of the PING brand, and their unique looks). So every few years I try them out in the store just to see if they finally got it right (for me). But I always walk away because of their sound/feel. They are never bad, but never great either... somewhere in the middle and just that little bit not enough to get me to switch. So I was really excited to see your reaction to these beautiful looking forged Blueprint irons. Was hoping they would be the ones to get me to finally pull the trigger... alas disappointed yet again. PING I WANT to give you my $ for irons. Please correct this. haha. Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway, heck even Cobra are making great forged irons. Ping need to up their game there I think.

    • @paulmyers8606
      @paulmyers8606 5 лет назад

      That Tungsten screw is not there by accident. It increases the MOI and gives the Blueprints a degree of forgiveness. Even on a hit out toward the toe, you will get some forgiveness and very little loss on distance. Ping did a lot of engineering with the input of the pros. Go to the pro shop and give them a try. You will be shocked by the carry, the sound and the soft feel. The one hurdle to slow you down will be the price at $219 per. But then you will get what you pay for.

    Hey guys honest question. I am thinking of getting fit in the spring for the upcoming season (there are a few swing changes I am trying to solidify first). Now the thing I can't stand GI irons. Hate the size, the look from address.. I just much prefer blades. Even if it is not the ideal club. Would you guys consider fitting me for a blade if that is what I am looking for?

    Looking for input!
    I'm looking for a new set of irons and so far I've had one issue. Usually I have to bend my irons at least 2 degrees upright, which changes the offset. Ping offers the same offset no matter what lie - correct? Which do you prefer? Buying a set of irons and bending them upright, or getting a set of Ping irons with a more upright lie? Are there more optrions were you get the same offset with more upright lie? Am I wrong regarding Ping?

    i have an old set of mizuno mp-60's and a set of ping s-59's, i hear the the the difference, but i love how solid the s-59 or just the ping casting in its's S irons feel, it hits hard and my ping s-59's are heavily played and getting pretty old now and they still look very good, the grooves are still in good shape, i cant say the same about my mp-60's, they show their wear with their age now, soft is fine, but there is something to be said about how ping makes their irons and how long those irons can last, still absolutely love the ping s-59's after all of these years

    I'm starting to wonder if blade testing on indoor turf is actually potentially misleading. I went and hit all the new Mizuno MB20 offerings two days ago (Blade, MMC, HMB) and every few shots I would get a 185 bomb with the 34 degree blade 7 iron - so much so that at the end of the results, the blade was my longest club over the MMC and HMB - but my 'normal' 34 7 iron of 172 carry was there most of the time and the normal MMC and HMB were 175ish. My newest complaint against Mizuno is that they don't offer the 105gram SteelFiber shaft without a significant upcharge because that shaft felt fantastic on all the new clubs - especially a set of HMBs designed for my next 10 years of slower swinging golf.

    • @jaconbits
      @jaconbits 5 лет назад

      According to Ian, if you're steep in your swing and hit down on the ball a lot, the mat actually gives you a bit of a springboard effect and can add a couple of MPH. Not sure why the blade would get a bigger benefit over the MMC or HMB though.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад

      😆 noted, we've had a few requests. We'll try to include a few per episode, we generally just edit out bad swings because they don't contribute to relevant data and take up extra time in the video

    Well I’m a mid handicapper and with one week of any club and I could make good contact but that’s my strongest point is I’m a good ball striker my putting is way down and my driver could be better but that’s why I’m a mid handicapper and not a low or scratch golfer but in do time I guess I said all of this to say I don’t think handicap matter when it comes to wat club you can hit

    Does Matt know how to shape shots? That’s the whole point of a bladed iron

  • @JohanSchmidt

    Playing with blades will improve your swing and consequently you'll hit your driver better

    I’m a 3 handicap and want to play blades but hear so many well informed people act surprised that people would want to play them.
    Is the downside that significant??
    I play mp18 mb 8-PW and love it.

      James Connor I mean I consistently shoot in the low to mid 80s and I play MP-18 SC PW-4. Granted I’m a much better iron player (rather play the 3 and 2 irons than hybrids as I strike them much more consistently)
      I love them to death looks and feel wise and I can actually feel when I’m having a miss hit issue going on and can fix it while playing.

    Blades teach you to compress the ball and not over swing. Less is more

    Maybe it is me, but I find the spin rates on these 2 blades to be a bit disappointing - broadly the same as I get with my i210s (which has marginally lower loft), and much as I would like to be hitting a 6i as far as Matt the reality is my carry is probably 25 yards behind him, more speed should equal more spin

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад

      Spin is more dependent on swing delivery, I wouldn't blame that on the design of these clubs. At their loft they would deliver as much spin as anything else out there.

    • @kourt2469

      You also don't know what ball Matt is hitting which could alter spin significantly compared to what you're hitting.

      Potentially you are delivering more loft with your lower lofted irons than Matt is with these blades. Swing determines spins more than a club. If Matt was steeper and delivered more loft (less hands forward at impact) he would be spinning them a heck of a lot more.
