Hi Phil! Being from Canada it's always nice to see the trains from Assie Land. Since you and your fellow commenters can't possibly see all of the train videos I'd like to pass along the names of some vids that you may really love. 1) 4K Passenger Trains Galore, and 2) - 4K Freight Trains Galore (posted by: trainfart). These two vids have great Swiss scenery. 3) 4K Quadcopter Train Video of Rockville Bridge (posted by: Super Trains). Super Trains also has many more vids worth checking out. 4) Canada: Trains Through Black Canyon - British Columbia and, 5) Canada's Canyon's - Trains Through The Thompson River Canyon (posted by: SantaFe5811), along with his many other neat vids. Enjoy and take care!

maybe get some of those faster ones when you're in that area next...

At 1:40 was a Hunter Rail Car (J set) which if you couldn't guess run on the Hunter Line (Probably why you don't see them in Sydney) and at 1:52 was an Endeavour which run on the Southern Highlands, Hunter Line and run the "Bathurst Bullet" (out to Bathurst). The reason why you don't see them is because they generally leave early in the morning and/or early to late evening.

Our major cities in Australia are so far apart that unless there's a good reason, we fly. In the video, the so-called intercity trains are actually going to minor towns in the same state (NSW), and invariably take longer than driving. The XPTs go further, but take an absurdly long time, and are not much used - you might have noticed how short they are. Every now and then, the idea of building a true high-speed line down the east coast (Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne) is floated, but the economics never seem to stack up. Sydney to/from Melbourne is one of the densest air routes in the world, but at 900km apart, building a railway that people will use instead of flying is difficult.

    • @intercity2256

Juan Garcia Some of the Russian trains go over at 150 mph at their cruising speed and the others go at 125 mph so they aren't that slow

It's cheaper to fly between capital cities in Australia

There is nothing wrong with slower trains. High speed trains increase suction and are dangerous when speeding through platforms. Their high speeds can suck a child standing on the platform, killing it. Try high speed trains in tunnels, feel the air being vacuumed or pushed out. Plus, in Australia temperatures reach up to 45C and at that heat the bogies bearings can heat quite high if they're rolled at high speeds fully loaded, resulting in early seizure and lack of grease from overheating, especially more if they're subjected to all that clanking (7:28) which further increases wear and tear from additional hammering to the bearings.

Lol ur wrong, there is a Russian train called the sapsan and its fast AF. I understand ur point of Australia though, because qld rails fastest only goes 140 km/h, the same as the Netherlands COMMUTER trains. lol. Imagine that. Australian high speed is dutch commuter speed! XDDDDS

Are all the trains air conditioned in Australia? if the windows are permanently closed, how would the passengers inside bear the heat in summers?

Sydney trains have always had it since the 80s. Excluding the S sets, dubbed "sweat sets" which had fixed windows AND no aircon

Wish the Inter cities were replaced with something sexier like Victoria's V/Locity DMU's.

Do it with 2X speed! The trains are at the speed I like!
