That Consecrated Sphinx did some serious work this game. I remember why i hated this card years ago. Still a real powerhouse in edh. The first turns of shelby vs ethan felt like a duel :D
It is but be warned it can be oppressive. I have a Rionya deck with Earth-cult elemental. Got like 11 copies across 3 turns and destroyed my opponents everything
I had one, but took it apart. The deck was very glass canon… once my play groups got a fix on what it was doing, Ryonia became a “kill on sight” commander. Deck felt terrible without her in play
@@mathewdebol923 That's an incredibly fair point. I found tuning the deck down by using a pretty restrictive budget makes my playgroup target her less. This is typically because I have to play either Rionya or her copy target on one turn, then go to the next to do anything. I also use stuff like humble defector to garner political favor
@@mathewdebol923 just need to put in some more redundancy and alternate strategies. Can very easily slot in a zada and a Neheb as secret commanders as a lot of the cards that work well with Rionya also work well with those two.
That had to be the most fair and wholesome Xyris Ive ever seen. Definitely want Tivash to win, thought Gisela had it, and was thinking by halfway Rionya was going to get the W. But I was surprised! Loved this match!!
Honestly, my pick died first. But those were some high powered cards getting played. I have a Xyris deck, but I built it around polymorph- style gameplay, saccing tokens for big creatures. This Xyris deck played a lot more like Simic good stuff :)

Mono red commander is very hard to pull off, I admire Ethan for that. On the other hand, I am not impress with Shelby, it feels like he always play the popular commander and expensive cards just for the win.
The Solemn copy was blocked by Gisela. Rionya only exiles the copy to her trigger at the end step. The token can still die through normal means before then.
Chandler deck is really really boring, literally a bunch of staples packed together, not a trace of synergy, just the best cards of his colors. He literally never even played his commander. Btw Rionya was really cool, i have one and copying sad robot is so satisfying
@@katiekreature exactly what I was gonna say. It makes no sense to be mad about something not getting pulled when it comes down to probability. It's not poker, I don't want them to count cards.

Gisela is not a popular commander. It is rarely used and you are saying this with things like dockside and wheel of fortune in other decks you know?

Yeah I did expect some more synergy with the commander or some other theme to be noticeable but it was just temur goodstuff
I agree. Goodstuff decks are fine, but just uninteresting to see in play, in my opinion.
