Oscar, its so refreshing to see someone who gets so much pleasure and enjoyment from your layout and rolling stock, may the hobby be with you for the future, your enthusiasm is infectious, and you really do bring enjoyment to a lot of people, you only have to read the comments, best regards, pete
Good work on the Dublo coach - it came up really well and looks to be very useable now. Talking of old coaches, I recently bought my son a set of 80s Hornby Midland clerestory coaches, in lovely condition. The only thing which lets these coaches down is the lack of interior. I did, however, find a seller (on that well known auction site) selling 3D printed seating for these, and other old Dublo and Triang coaches. I ordered a set, and after a clean up to remove a small amount of printer 'flashing?', they fitted perfectly. They look original, and they also add a little extra weight to the model. So if anyone wants to bring some old coaches up to a more modern level, perhaps to fit in better with other coaching stock, I think they are well worth a look. Anyhow, thank you for this morning's viewing, and I'll look forward to more progress next week. All the best, Gord
Hi, sounds like a great upgrade to those coaches. My clerestory coaches are definitely a little on the light side, I'm going to keep that idea in mind, I have seen some 3D printed interiors for the early TC coaches on that well known auction site. Possibly a 3-D printing project for myself over the winter months? Thanks again, all the best. Oscar
The 1959 catalogue. We had a toy shop in Coventry called Barnaby's and from what I can remember the catalogues were delivered in Jan or Feb at the start of the year. The three rail trix railway paper/cardboard track from what I remember. The mind of visual dreams of a layout. Thank you on the enjoyment of yours.
It’s a pure joy to watch your video on a Sunday morning, hearing of the tender loving care that you give to those most magnificent pieces of precious trains. It’s just such a beautiful collection you have. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us.😊
Hi, it's great to hear you're enjoying seeing these items put into a little gentle use, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, It's hugely appreciated. Oscar
I still have my Princess, and box, from the early 60s. It has the black cylinder blocks and smoke. So nice to see the original trains and track. I hardly ever have time to use my collection, it's all boxed away, though my son cadges the occasional loco and freight stock for his layout.
Morning Oscar ,another interesting video .Blood & custard is my favourite livery. The princesses looks so good pulling the mentioned livery coaches .Like most people watching your videos it’s a walk down memory lane .Always great to watch your videos 😊😊
Good afternoon Steven, thanks for watching. It’s great to hear you enjoyed seeing the Princess with those terrific looking coaches. All the best . Oscar
A very good morning to you Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, another great start to my Sunday morning. Mug of tea, lightly toasted tea cake and your wonderful railway layout video, what more could anyone ask for. 👍 your tin plate coach has cleaned up really well and it's great to see it running round your layout with the other coaches, looking very splendid indeed. Interesting to hear that maybe some of the over head power system may be used again, I suppose that would have to wait until most of the other projects on the railway are mainly established, like the elevated station section, that is going to really look amazing, and is already looking amazing. I think that was an amazing idea to do that, well done Oscar. I always like to see your railway catalogs and to see what was available to buy at the time these catalogs were printed , especially the continental range. I think it's a shame that HORNBY haven't reintroduced some of the continental range, it would be interesting to see if it would be successful ? I noticed last time i was at the garden centre / antique centre near Hull I noticed in the glass railway cabinet there was a Triang four wheel black dock diesel shunter for under £5, I didn't buy it as the condition wasn't very good I thought. Anyway Oscar, thank you again for a wonderful video of your wonderful railway. I am going to make another cup of tea, but sadly I've ran out of tea cakes 😢 so I will have to have a slice of white toast and marmalade instead.😊 Well, keep safe Oscar and have a great week. Looking forward to seeing your next video. 👍🚂🚃
Good evening Martin, I imagine an expensive experiment for Hornby to introduce some of the transcontinental range the market seems to demand highly detailed models with more realism, maybe the TC items might not appeal to many, but it would be definitely nice to see. It's becoming very tempting to try and introduce a little catenary to the railway, however, as it's developed it would only really work on the inner circuit, I think it would still be quite impressive, as you say when the rest of it is developed more, will be the time to introduce it. Hope you enjoyed your additional slice of toast and marmalade. All the best. Oscar
Good morning Oscar, you have been busy with the sidewalls, its looking great. What a lot of tidying up the Railway looks fantastic. I do like our glimpses into the old catalogues, as a boy back in the late 50s and early 60s I still remember the excitement of looking through the catalogues and dreaming!! We never had a new catalogue, dad would get the old one as the model shops sold them off but it was no less exciting. The princess royal was running very smoothly and did very well on the elevated section and you've done a fantastic job with the wheels on the tin coaches. We lived in Clacton on sea and once a year went to Euston to catch the boat train Stranraer to go to N Ireland, I remember watching the trains pulling out of the station and even on level ground see a little bit of wheel slip. I found this both exciting and in awe of the power and noise of these monsters taking people all over the country. That's reminiscing for another time, do you see what you do to me. Lovely morning thanks Oscar enjoyed your wonderful Railway, take care Eddy xx, p.s. next time my grandkids come over I'll show them your princess as we have a Princess Elizabeth in L M S crimson, they'll love that. Xx
Good evening Eddy, great to hear about the catalogues you had. I remember getting catalogues being sold off cheap or given away once they were out of date, I was always happy to get them. Excellent scenes, you remember from your trips on the railway. I was lucky enough to see 0-6-0 Tank locomotive last weekend in action with just two coaches, nowhere slip, but an amazing sense of power just watching it move off, site, sound, smell and you can feel it through the ground. Hope the grandkids enjoy seeing the Princess. Take care. Oscar
Very nice. It's gradually looking more complete and nice models as always. I love the layout in the back of the 1959 catalogue, it has so many interesting elements. I translated it into Super 4 and, with a few custom track pieces, it would work quite well. If ever I get more space I am going to have a try at constructing it. 😊
Afternoon Pauline, thanks again for taking the time to watch. It’s definitely beginning to come together. The layouts on the backs of those catalogues are really quite something, getting almost the entire range in use in one corner or another. Sounds like quite a Projects to get under way, but great fun. I had always thought I would build one of these trade type layouts when I took down the Super 4 railway, but then ended up going around the room instead. The baseboards from that railway were really in very poor condition and definitely not worth continuing with. Take care. Oscar
Hi Oscar, The Princess Royal looks great on the elevated section. I have the R50 with the black cylinder blocks and Tender R30/31. It came out of a boxed set but the box was wrecked however loco in lovely condition. Agreed on tidying up not being the fun part of model railways but has to be done at some point. Good job on the tinplate coach 👍 Always good to have a trawl through the catalogue. Local auction has no railway items at all this month which is disappointing as from time to time some gems turn up. 😕 Cheers, Gordon
Good morning Gordon, thanks for watching. I was quite pleased with the end result on the tinplate coach, can’t believe the time it took me to get it completed though. Always feels good once it’s all cleaned up and neat and tidy againagain. I have to admit it although having cleaned and tidied it’s now a complete mess again… All the best Oscar
Greetings Oscar! I continue to be impressed by your efforts to push the envelope on these two 60-plus year-old competing model railway systems. From my past experience going beyond the traditional 4' x 8' with either could be quite problematic! Looking forward to the future/past!
Great video this morning Oscar, a really nice model of the princess you have there, I do think I have told you about the triang princess that I had and how it wasn’t the best model for me due to having parts broken so in the end i made from it a model of 6202 Turbomotive, keep up the great work Oscar.
Good morning David, yes I think you mentioned your Princess conversion to a Turbomotive before, a great way to use the parts of a damaged model locomotive. Thanks again for watching great to hear you enjoyed. Oscar
Thanks Phil, glad you enjoyed that, Princess Royal model locomotives must've been quite something back in the day in the toy shops. All the best. Oscar

Great start to Sunday as usual Oscar. The Princess Royal seemed to glide up the elevated section, a little wheel slip but not too much. You’ve done a lot of work over a short time on this. Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Roy.
Good morning Roy, glad you enjoyed that. This particular model of the Princess seems to be a very nice runner, I've been surprised how well it did with these coaches on the climb. All the best Oscar
Agree with gs425 the layout is basically simply track and bridges a few buildings no scenery but it’s like the David Attenborough version of trains So enjoyable
Id love to get a tri-ang princess royal for myself, a nice old mainline passenger loco, especially the one with the extra rods on the side, and i hooe i can get one at the next event i end uo attending
Hi Oscar, Just working an a similar vintage Princess Royal at the moment? I bought one without a motor, and had an Airfix 5 pole motor available.. So it is getting the correct worm gear fitted.. I am hoping to have a great "new" Princess to run very soon?? It may end up on my Grandson's layout, but more likely it will run on my standard track layout.. (It has early solid wheels, so probably has flanges a bit too deep for System 6 track)? Your Upper Loop looks really good with the sidewalls.. It will be nice to get the last few in place to finish it off? I can't get over how well the Dublo and Triang systems compliment one another on this layout.. No matter which you use, they all run very well.. Lovely to watch..
Good morning Robin, the Airfix 5 pole sounds like a very good combination, should be a lovely model to run. I've got all the side walls in now it's certainly changes the look of the layout, also gives it a more robust feel. It's a very close fit around the first radius curves+sidewalls with the B12 ! but there is just enough clearance, I wonder whether this is by design by accident with the B12 been added to the range as series 3 on the side walls were being replaced by the Super 4 system. Thanks again for watching take care. Oscar
Like the catologue section....layout obviously much cleaner now....ever thought about track underlay or you prefer the clatter? Great as always Oscar...
Hi Oscar, great to see the crimson Princess and a lovely smooth runner. Can I ask how you removed the HD wheel hangers ? Re-fixing with glue is a great idea. Many thanks for another great film.
Hi Peter, removing the hangers can be a little tricky. Have a very fine flat rated screwdriver which is quite flexible, you need to fold up the tab on top wheel hanger to allow it to drop out of the bogie, it requires a little fiddling to get the blade between the coach body and a bogie and just feeling for the edge of the tab with the blade of the screwdriver to begin to lift it up. Thanks for watching take care. Oscar
I agree with all the comment made thus far, but one thing I have been waiting to see on your layout are the buffer stops on the super 3 track? (to finish off the sidings). Is there a reason for them not being fitted? I only have one myself as I grew up with super 4, the one I have never seem to sit well on the few pieces of super 3 that I have in my collection.
Hi Ronald, thank you for watching, there will be buffers at some point, but as there’s been an awful lot of work going on working across the railway I have decided to leave them till much later on to install them. But I can guarantee they will get on the sidings at some point by the end of this year. You’re right they don’t sit in the rails terribly well the ones I have seem to have suffered a little distortion in many of the little plastic clips designed for holding them in place are either damaged or missing. An alternative method of sensibly, securing them without damaging, either track, baseboard or buffers will need to be found. All the best . Oscar
Hi Oscar I have a question about 3 rail coach/wagon metal wheel sets, and it is this, Q. Are the wheels 'live'? Or is one side insulated like on 2 rail sets?
Hi Mike, the wheel sets on the old are Dublo items are live so they could not be used onto Rail. The later Dublo items with plastic wheels could be used on either the three Rail or The two Rail, I think these were introduced as a Dublo began to develop It’s two Rail system.. All the best . Oscar
Hello Oscar, How high is your elevated track and how many sections of track did you need to go from the base to the first section of level track on on your eventuated track?
Hi, I used the standard R.79 set of six inclined piers, the seventh one being R. 74 sold as a separate item as the high-level piers about 7.9 cm in hight which makes the railheads approximately 9 cm from the baseboard, first three sections of the climb are R.195 large radius curves followed by four R.190 straights to the first high-level R.74 pier, then it's all at that height. Oscar
