I remember back in the 60s playing with my Dads (the same) Freight set, the train sets had more wagons then. Thank you for showing it and reminding me of my childhood.
Thanks Oscar, I know I've said this before, but R751 in green is my favourite Triang loco, I've recently re-assembled a couple from parts and good looking bodies, a great machine.
Freightmaster my first train loved it wish i still had it, Your layout is absolutely fab who needs scenery? Aww what a shame going back in box.
Thanks Oscar for another interesting video .The sight of both the diesels running was a real joy to watch .Evert tine I see your videos it brings back such happy child hood memories ,wiring is not my favourite job but when things work out it’s a great feeling .All the best & keep up the good work .😊
Thank you Steven. Glad you enjoyed seeing both of these diesel locomotives in action on the railway.
Take care.
Oscar
Some lovely items today. Superb set. I'm looking forward to next weeks Transcontinental running. Take care, all the best to you
Thanks, Mr Snooze. Glad you enjoyed that..
Take care.
Oscar
I can remember having the `Freightmaster `set way back in the 60`s ...Seeing that box brought back so many memories ...Still running trains today ....and subscribed ...
Hi, great to hear you had this when they were a bit more contemporary. Thanks for taking the time to watch and subscribe, glad you enjoyed seeing the items in use on the railway.
Oscar
Good Morning to you Oscar from Glasgow another great video 📹 from you Sir you have a lot of Great old Models from the 1960 too the 1970 Thanks again for the video 📹
Thank you Cameron glad you enjoyed the video with that selection of items.
Take care.
Oscar
Hi Oscar, nice piece of editing this morning. Great watching the trains circulating. Love the freight set. I regret that I never kept the only box I ever had for the Dublo set that I inherited as a little kid. I remember the yellow cardboard box interior well but I guess it just disintegrated. Cheers Guy
Hi Guy, Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks again for looking in. I don't have a train set from Dublo but the Tri-ang boxes are made from such a soft card and disintegrate over time, I imagine if the set has enthusiastic use it would deteriorate quite rapidly.
Take care.
Oscar
Got my first triang/hornby electric train set in 1970 I was 3 had a red centre cab diesel and wagons I think it was a junior set ,nice the yellow insert and red box reminded me mum this morning about it she came for a coffee and went wow I remember them like that 😊
Cheers Oscar
Mark 😊😊
Evening Mark, thanks again for looking in, definitely a striking colour when you lift off the lid..
All the best.
Oscar
Another great video.. I love it that you put the approx dates of the models which helps a lot... I have the Tri-ang Australian Railways version of this...
Hi Tim, it's great to hear you find the information useful. I find it very difficult with dates myself as there are often different ones depending upon where you read, production dates, Press release date, pre-release review date and catalogue dates, many items remained on dealer shelves remaining freely available for many years despite having been out of production and deleted from the catalogue. I feel the dates give us a perspective when looking at these models.
All the best.
Oscar
Your running today was superb Oscar, I loved the wheel slip on the A4 as it pulled away under the elevated station. Tidy ups just don't seem to work sometimes. You managed to put one set away but instantly replaced it with another set. The wheels on my blue TC set are so gummed up that the loco cannot pull them. Last night I tried to clean a set of wheels on my Royal Mail car. I did free up the loose wheel on all four axles but sadly I split one wheel driving the splined shaft in. Regards, David.
Hi David, I eventually got a few things put away, possibly as many things came back out again... I was trying to get enough space to move a few more things around and run the TC locomotive, but all took far longer than I had thought, but the distractions are great fun, sorry to hear you split a wheel when reassembling, I've quite successfully glued a few together myself when this happens, it's better to keep this one on the splined side run the glued wheel through with a 2 mm drillbit to clean the inside of the shaft, just in case the glue has spread a little bit too far. I've been using rocket card glue for this type of thing..
Take care.
Oscar
Excellent film.
My first train set was an earlier Freightmaster set.
I've got that set.
Always puzzled why a cattle wagon and horse box coming out of a steel works on box lid 😮😊
Looking forward to Trans continental film 🎉
Catch up soon.
Nice running footage at the beginning. Looking forward to seeing the TC items running on your nice large layout. I have quite a few of these and I really like them. 😊
Thanks Pauline, great to hear you have a few of these in your collection, they seem to be a number of subtle variations, which always creates an excuse to get another one...
Take care.
Oscar
@@oscarpaisley So true. I found some of the short Australian versions in blue and before I knew it I had 6 of them including the Buffet Car! I like them more than the 2nd series coaches. 😊
Nice to see a "re-boxing" video for a change :o) I managed to acquire the earlier version of the Freightmaster a while back which has different wagons. Lots of fun to be had even with a simple shunting layout. Merry Christmas !
Thank you Mike, glad you enjoyed the re boxing, there are some lovely subtle variations of this particular set, A box with this many wagons and the locomotive must've been a thrill to receive.
All the best.
Oscar
Nice video. I did like the eye-level shots. Can we have lots more of those? Looking forward to next week.
Hi Roderic, glad you enjoyed eye-level shots, we'll be having some more in the coming weeks.
All the best.
Oscar
Nice one . The Freightmaster was my first set , but back in 1965 . Same wagons but in earlier liveries . Love my Sunday morning fix of Tri-ang
Thanks Russell, glad you enjoyed that,Terrific to hear you had a Freightmaster, Bet it was a thrill to receive it with so many items contained within the one red box.
Take care.
Oscar
The freight set is a lovely little set, I normally prefer passenger sets but there is enough interesting rolling stock in there to make it something I would like to own
Great video as always Oscar. Happy New Year to you. Thanks for kicking off my Sunday as usual. Roy.
Thanks Roy glad you enjoyed that on Sunday morning, wish you all the best for the coming year.
Oscar
Great collection😊🎉
Thank you 🤗
That 37 class is nice in BR early green livery .👍🏻
I like class 37s' they are my fav British diesel locomotive.
Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Thank you for another lovely video. It was
Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Thank you for another lovely video. Great to see your trains running round. I always remember as a young lad in the 1960s getting a train set for Christmas or a birthday like the fright master set you have. Nice to see the continental locomotive and the observation coach. I have noticed also that when you put elastic bands round something and you put the item away in storage then after a considerable time you go back to the item you always find that the elastic band has become brittle and just breaks up You have a great layout Oscar and as always I look forward to seeing your layout next week. I am going to have my tea and toasted tea cake now. Keep safe Oscar. 🙂👍🚂🚃
Hi Martin, thanks again for looking in, glad you enjoyed seeing this group of items running on the railway. It's a funny thing that with elastic bands. I cleared a drawer out in the kitchen over the Christmas period! one of those drawers where you just keep throwing things that you think you'll need one day, but somehow never do! it was full of things I never needed along with dozens of elastic bands all gone brittle, Some had bonded themselves to things in the process.
All the best.
Oscar
Those old Model Railway Train Set boxes - they didn't package them too well I've notice compared todays Strain Sets!!! 😉🚂🚂🚂
Hi Jimyjames, you're right that Vac-form type packaging can be a bit weak and feeble, especially as it ages.
All the best.
Oscar
I love a tiny bit of playwear after all they were meant to be run. Our old models are certainly noisy, and power hungry compared to a lot of newer models.
Proper Tri Ang your first coach wobbles like mad at the start good vid mine do that everywhere a good wobble remover is to bend the inside electric track connector on series 2 trck down 😋
Hi, thanks for watching and the tip.
Take care.
Oscar
It is just so lovely to watch your vintage trains run.. The sight, the sound and the inevitable 'wobble'... Just like my collection? Who could not love them?
The 3 Dublo rail system straight away showed it's "superiority," by simply driving around a loop to turn a train. How many times have I heard that bit of wiring simplicity mentioned in favour of the 3 rail track ? ( Still great to see it happen though)?
It is a certain thing in my mind, that the "old" model railways of the 1950 to 70 period, were the reason that so many of us still have such a great love for model trains? I wonder if the owners of "modern" models, will remember their beginnings with such loving memories?
I don't even notice any more, (or it does not worry me) that this layout is done with Series 3 track.. In fact, I find it even more enjoyable because of it? With your 3D printed additions, it looks like it has always been meant to run and look so good..
Really looking forward to watching the Transcontinental items run next week? I kept wishing that the little yellow Yard Switcher and bogie wagons seen in the video, would have got a run today?
Thank you for the memories as usual Oscar, (don't forget the drinking straw loops on the Mk.2 couplers next week)... Great video as usual............
Good evening Robin, glad you're enjoying seeing these items wobble around the track, the 3 rail is just great fun. It must've been great fun to get a bit of this down on the carpet and make a swift railway for the evening. The sound, smell and the weight of the models all part of it.. The Tri-ang items do feel a little more lightweight and may not have lasted as long on the carpet and would benefit from being on a board, As you say great memories would have been formed.
Thanks again take care.
Oscar
Good morning Oscar
An interesting beginning to your latest video, the close up shots of your railway at track level give an interesting new perspective to your railway, I look forward to more of this.
Thanks David glad you enjoyed the slightly different look at the railway.
Take care.
Oscar
Another great video Oscar. I noticed the carriage behind the 37 wobbling around and remembered tightening the eyelet bogie rivets by gently hammering two rounded tools against each side effectly slightly compressing the rivets fixed the wobble
Hi Jules, thanks for watching and the great information.
All the best.
Oscar
Good morning from Melbourne Australia. The Transcontinental livery is that of the Victorian Railways VR replaced with TR. It's a composite of the Spirit of Progress (Melbourne AUS) with the US observation cars it seems. There might have been a US Railway with similar colours too.
Enjoy your channel, Michael
The VR diesel livery, first used on the B class, was inspired by the short lived Erie railroad freight locomotive livery , but the the Erie black replaced by blue.
The General Motors EMD livery proposal was rejected by the Victorian Railways. All according to the book The ML2 story with an illustration of the justifiably rejected livery.
Thank you Michael for taking the time to watch and comment with the terrific information it's much appreciated and very nice to hear you're enjoying the channel.
Take care.
Oscar
Hi Oscar,
Great opening footage as mentioned.
Looking forward to the TC video. I have the double diesel set with coaches and the wasp striped Yard Switcher. Loads of growling when these two are running 😂
Best regards,
Gordon
Evening Gordon, glad you enjoyed that footage, you're definitely need ear defenders when you get to models like that rolling at the same time...
But all great fun.
Take care.
Oscar
A good video this morning Oscar.
Thanks David glad you enjoyed that.
Oscar
Really enjoyable. Does anyone know where Barrie Davis is? Is he ok?
this is what I was going to ask, I know Barrie is friends with Oscar. any updates on Barrie ? I emailed him but haven't had a response.
Hi Barry, glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry I don't have any information about Barrie Davis, I'm not in regular contact with him. I've noticed recently that his videos disappeared. In the past, Barrie has taken the decision to remove his videos from RUclips from time to time and then after a brake return and upload new and previous videos. I think we should respect Barrie's decision and privacy and not inundated him with messages.
Oscar
@@oscarpaisley Hi Oscar thanks for your reply. I entirely agree. If Barrie wants a break for whatever reason we should respect that. I was just concerned , hoping he is ok. I’ve greatly appreciated his videos, as I do yours.
Some Brilliant Jazzy “Neo Noir” style Opening Shots there O.P 🎥👌🏻and some excellent items on track today - I understand your pov about too many items or overcrowding , but with so much space it’s great to see the variety of stock and the longer rakes of coaches and Trucks, that many of us can’t have due to the restrictions of our more compact layouts - I never fail to find some nugget of info, or useful tip from these episodes, and the “Transcontinental Teaser” has set us all up Nicely for the Next episode. Have a great week 🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🚂🚞🚞💨💨✨
Hi Donni, glad you enjoyed the opening sequence, it was a great deal of fun, making it. The layout just gets to that point where things become difficult moving things around and it's nice to have a change around with different things.
All the best.
Oscar
Some excellent new filming angles there Oscar ! Looking good. Boy our trains are noisy 😂. Absolutely no chance of slipping off for a quiet running session without alerting the Domestic Authorities!
« Playworn, but fun », would be my motto as far as model railways are concerned.
Just a question. Coming back to model trains after around 10 years, with a large 2 rail cellar layout which was all Peco streamline, I’d got used to running 6 or 8 coach trains with my Triang-Hornby, Dublo and Wrenn locos. On the « New » 3-rail layout, with tinplate coaches, only the two Duchesses seem to be able to handle 6. Silver King and Bristol Castle both struggle and 4 seems to be the comfortable limit. Is that normal in your experience? Or is my tracklaying at fault ?
Rob
Good morning Rob, as you say these items can be heard from quite some distance away? all part of the fun, locomotives on the 3 rail tin plate track do have a very satisfying sound and feel on the controller. I've found that the super detailed type coaches generate quite a lot of wheel slip even with the wheels and axles cleaned and lubricated. I'll get better performance with that metal wheels. However, I was suffering quite a lot of wheel slip with my maroon Duchess with the horseshoe magnet with just three coaches. After watching one of Ronald Dodd's great videos, I realised that there was to much downward pressure on the pick up spoons and this was causing lack of traction, I've included the link here to the section of the video about adjusting the pick shoes: ruclips.net/video/0LKT4JGMewU/видео.htmlsi=sKPJ3cJxd878ygNA following his advice, it made a huge improvement to the maroon Duchess, four tin plate coaches and Mail coach runs well. I think the Tri-ang models have the edge with the traction magnets in pulling power.
Tack care.
Oscar
Morning Oscar, that was a good start to this week's video. It's always a shame when you talk of putting away trains, but necessary you've got such a collection of trains it'll be exciting to see stuff we haven't seen for some time. That was a nice teaser of the transcontinental, I'm looking forward to seeing that, it sounded like your model had the ribbed wheels giving the distinct whine as it goes around the Railway. Thanks Oscar, looking forward to next week. Eddy xx
Hi Eddy, thanks again for taking the time to look in. Its good fun putting these things away but all too easy to get distracted. Ends up taking way longer than you thought.
All the best.
Oscar
👍
Thanks again, Kevin.
Oscar
Hi Oscar ,, yet another great video again. I just really love what you have done with your layout. Im looking forward to your next video when you are running the transcontinental coaches and the vic rail double ender triang railways.
As soon as you run the double ender in this video it gave me an instant flashback as soon as I heard the sound of the knurled wheels on the tracks to one of my christmas presents bought for me by my mum (rip) when i was a youngen.
Hey Oscar ,, Can i ask for a request please ?
Is there any chance you can run the yellow dock shunter with its rake of goods carriages as i have bought 1 of them dark blue shell tankers as i asked about in a previous post on here as id loved to see it do a few laps of your layout.
Hey I aslo aquired an R.374 4-6-2 1981 model battle of britain spitfire and its in quite good condition and goes quite well for its 40 years i got it with a jinty and a few silver seal carriages too.
Thanks again and Cheers from John in Australia.
Good morning John, glad you enjoyed the video. Sounds like you've been busy acquiring new items again the Battle of Britain named Spitfire is a beautiful model. Yellow locomotive you mention I ran a couple of videos back I've included the link here: ruclips.net/video/atWC5PpN3lY/видео.html
All the best.
