@Boringcountrylife I never quite understood it either. This is my first time to go out and buy bread before a storm. I think it’s because I like to eat toast so much.
Silver white winters that melt into spring 🎶 We refilled the propane tanks incase we need to run the generator, but we have expanded our panels and batteries enough that it would take multiple days of heavy clouds in a row to need to run it. Nice thing about cold is the panels are more efficient, BUT when it is sooo cold at night like it has been this month it makes the minisplit run all night (set at 46 degrees) out in the shop where the batteries and inverter are. I do enjoy being able to line dry laundry inside and cook with the cookstove during the cold months. Saves more power. We loaded up the wood on the front porch also. Will be reloading again tomorrow for what weather we will start getting Friday night. Is your water holding system there to be able to control when you run the well/manage power or is there another reason as well?
We have our water holding system inside for during the winter mostly. Since our holding tanks up the hill are not insulated yet, they freeze. It’s a pain. Then we are stuck. We can run the pump and directly fill our holding tanks in the house or up the hill, but it’ll be really nice when we get those outside tanks under cover and insulated. We plan to build a little house for them and we somehow still need to come up with a way to heat it enough so they don’t freeze. Right now, it’s mainly the valve in the IBC tank that freezes. I forgot about the silver white winters part. I am actually looking forward to the snow. I love snow. I’ll not be driving in it, hopefully. I also look so forward to setting up an inside laundry drying station like you mentioned. Last year I had a clothesline near the wood stove, but we had to take it down while we work on projects. Stay warm and toasty!
Oh-we have the holding tanks so we don’t have to run the well pump-yes, to manage power mostly, and because of the type of solar well pump that we have. It seems to be the kind for filling tanks, not on demand.
We have gotten a total of 11 inches of snow and an inch of ice through this week plus it's snowing again today. I LOVE it BUT it is making the off grid farm challenging. Please pray for my 86 year old momma. She fell Dec 22 and had to have a hip replacement. I brought her home a week later and she's been slowly recovering. Now I'm catching up on your vids!
I am so sorry, and will definitely pray for her. She will need a lot of help, and I’m glad she has join 11 inches! That’s a ton! I like the snow but it does slow things down and sometimes it makes this off grid life so complicated!
@@RidgeHavenHomestead Thank you, it's been a very long 2 weeks. I have done physcial therapy with her every day and in the first 2 weeks i have assisted her in everything and not much sleep at night since she suffers from sundowners. her name is Elaine.
@Shelleys4Seasons Thank you for sharing her name so we can pray for her and you. That is a heavy load you’re under. My dad had Lewy body dementia before he died 2 yrs ago, and I understand about dementia. It is so very difficult.
Have you bought your milk and bread yet? 😅
😂😂 We explained the milk and bread thing to our girls today. One asked "What are they doing? Dunking their bread in the milk to eat it?"

If you heat with wood the cardboard boxes would come in handy to get the snow covered wood to burn.
Yes, I did save some!
We had so many that we just had to thin some out.
Thanks!!

@@RidgeHavenHomestead So sorry your dad had to go through that, sorry for your loss.
@ thank you.
Coming up on the anniversary of it and it’s been on my mind.
