We have reason to suspect that the Husky we adopted was dumped because he was such a handful. He was what is referred to as an 11th hour dog. The pound that was holding him couldn't get him adopted and was ready to have him put down. Long story short, we fostered him so he wasn't put down. 1 year later and someone offered to adopt him. During that time the little monkey somehow bonded with me. Since I feared for his welfare if if he ended up in a bad situation I adopted him. Yes, he's still a handful, always up to something, needs lots of work and he's still a monkey, but he's my monkey. I didn't want to get a dog and I knew a husky was hard work but now I can't see not having him. I saved him and he returned the favour, 10 fold.

Just remember, all: Huskies have ALL the energy! Walks/ runs/ dogpark visits/ doggie doors out to a yard/ etc. are all that stand between you and either a freakin' hurricane of energy destroying everything in it's path or, even worse, a depressed pup. I still feel for the girl my lil brother had when he was still at home who didn't get as many runs as she wanted and ended up stressed/ nervous with inside accidents; we should have let her take us out more often for both her mental health and our own...

My last dog was a Husky...and he lived for 12 years.
Here are a few things that I learned:
    1. He didn't like crates and was destructive when freed. Once we removed from the habit of the crate, the destruction stopped.
    2. The first two years (male) were difficult...often tear-filled. Last 10 years, he became the best pet companion ever.
    3. He needed lots of exercise. I can not overstate this. Every day...he needed a 2-mile walk minimally.
    4. He needed to understand his position in the family pack. The pack leader (you) can not be ambiguous. Although most dogs are like this...
Good luck! I miss Yukon almost daily.

We had 18 years our little husky mix. He had all the characteristics of a husky. This breed is very smart never wants to be kept in a cage or room. Obeys but you have to be able to lead, which means you need to learn how to lead. If not your house and furniture will suffer. We learned it was our fault not his.
They need lots of exercise, which is around three hours a day. It is a commitment and as intensive as raising a child. Bathing time is not easy, but over the years he knew there was no other way.
Huskies are different and need attention on all levels. Shedding is also something you need to be aware of. However, we loved him even more with all the accidents, hard work, and time you put in.

My husky dog helped me to dig a hole on an old tree stump two years ago, now I have a beautiful flowers plant in there. He know how to ring a bell to go pee and poo, but oh boy, the walking is difficult, he launch at anything and everyone that pay attention to him. He never chewed on a single pair of shoes, and neither destroy the house, he chase the cat from time to tim and sometimes he just ignores her, he does shed a lot, A LOT! He is sick and always be, so I love him exactly how he is.

As long as you’re really consistent and you start training them immediately you’re going to have a wonderful dog but you must be consistent and you must also recognize that it’s a puppy they’re gonna chew on things because they’re teething and also chewing is a relax method for dogs. They’re gonna pee and poop in the house because they’re little and house training takes time, as far as crate training the only thing I’ve found that works is to put the crate in the room with you when you sleep , they’re generally a lot calmer if you’re in the room with them. I am not any kind of dog expert or trainer, I’ve just had dogs for my entire life

They also are very stubborn, require a lot of attention, will back talk you, and require a lot of repetition to teach them. They are also jumpers and climbers. You can’t let them outside alone or they will leave the yard no matter what fence you have. Wouldn’t ever give her up. She is too much fun.

Dogs especially working dogs (like a husky) require a lot of exercise and need to kind of let loose. If they don't have an outlet to release their energy (like running around etc) they become restless and start biting and chewing things. That's probably why he destroys stuff

Huskies use to be really hard to adopt because they are so intelligent and high energy. Most people have no clue what they signed up for. Yes they hate water ...look at their coat... plus they like to clean themselves off if given a chance. My family got a husky when I was 5 and even though he destroyed my toys as a pup he was my best friend. Constant running, constant playing, they are serious pack animals! Please train and read up on husky behavior they're not like other dogs. Please think twice before adopting as too many get dropped off at animal shelters for "behavioral issues", which actually is just people not understanding the breed.

Excellent video! I got a female red Husky first and bred her at 1 year, 8 months with a black/white Male Husky. I kept her Black/White daughter who ended up being a giant muscular 65 pounds to moms 42 pounds. Momma Murphey was still the Alpha. Momma died at 13 and Maya is almost 14. Huskies are wonderful dogs, and definitely not for everyone. If you aren't willing to put in the work to give your Husky a wonderful life, don't get a Husky. Get a great vacuum cleaner. If you have carpeting, invest in a good carpet steam cleaner. Huskies are smart, stubborn, loving, escape artists, mischievous, lunatics. This is normal Husky behavior. Buy a collar to train your Husky. But transfer to the harnest for long walks and mushing. By the way, there are only long walks for a Husky. Huskies were bred to go long distances. Huskies have the ability to regulate their metabolism. When other dogs will eventually get tired, a Husky can keep going. A TIRED HUSKY IS A GOOD HUSKY! This means if you don't tire out your Husky, expect damage to be done to your House. Never let your Husky off lease, unless it is in a high fenced area. My red female 42 pound Husky Murphey jumped onto the top and over a 6 foot fence at the Laguna Beach California dog park. I finally caught her a mile away in the hills. Thank God no Coyotes got her. There are videos of Huskies climbing fences over 8 feet tall to escape yards and kennels. Huskies will eat through a wooden fence, dig under any fence, and attempt to climb all fences. YOU NEED TO BE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON TO OWN A HUSKY.

Huskies are bred for cold climates. They have double fur. Year round hot weather is not the best place for them. It took me 4 years of study to choose a dog to my environment which is how I got my English bullie.
Most dogs end up in shelters because owners don't understand the species. Please...please DON'T get a dog because they're pretty. They are ALOT of work in sickness and health. Study the dog and choose according to your lifestyle.

I have had 2 Huskies and they also were a handful as a puppy, I can tell you. First I had 4 but as they grew older they started to fight more and more for the leadership which is not unusual with Huskies. So I gave one to a nephew of my ex girlfriend and one to a very good friend of mine. Huskies need a lot of long walks preferably 3 times a day, they need to run. If you can do that you won't have any problems with them at home. They are happy when they can run, when they have something to do. If they don't, they tend to be very naughty. I had a lot of fun with my dogs and for me they were the best dogs I ever had.

Thyra is my third Husky. She is a dark red and white with teal eyes. She's is 9 weeks old. I am retired and needed a Companion and have the time to spend with her so it works out. I live on a large ,fenced compound in the Hill Country of Central Texas...WITH air-conditioning and dog doors ! I raised two other Huskies while driving Long Haul and both of them went to all 48 (I know there's 50, do I have to explain it ?) States and Canada. The main thing is time spent with them together in a small space and exercise. And hair.....lots of hair. Born nomads and love to travel and see new things. She loves her crate, goes right in and curls up on her own. I leave the door open during the day and she naps in it. She sleeps in it at night so there won't be any midnight destruction parties while I sleep or when I go to the grocery store. Otherwise, my dog goes with me. No solid waste issues in the house since I got her, and only a couple of minor sprinkles until I learned her body language. Eat, go outside. Play rough, go outside. Wake up, go outside. Has it been over an hour....go outside. It is finally staring to work.

My brother got a husky which we named Leo too at 8 months and I had a German Shepard who was 9 years old. My German didn’t like him at first but constant work walking and running them, that they eventually became best buds. Unfortunately a year later my German Shepard passed away and Leo was all alone for a couple months. He was lonely without his buddy but it helped him to bond better with me and now listens to me more then my brother. I decided to get another dog now since I felt it was time and I got a German Shepard which is 4 months and he’s chewing, digging holes, and causing chaos but he’s so loving that it’s worth it and we know he’ll be a good member to the family. Jesus, I hate to be negative, but you are doing it all wrong with a husky. If you are gonna crate train him then crate train him. He should spend most of his time in the crate. You get him out and play with him for a few minutes. Then you take him outside and let him do his business. Let him or him and the other dog play outside for a while. He will probably go again. Then bring him in and pet or play with him for 10 minutes or so. Then back in the crate. He will cry but he will learn. You will have to do this about every two hours when you are home. They can stay in the crate for an extra hour for every month they are. 4 months 4 hours. When you have to work...well there is nothing you can really do about that so expect to clean a crate when you get home. If you are training him the whole time you will get to a point that when you bring him in he will go in his crate on his own and you will not even have to close the door. He will stay in there until you tell him he can get out. Never had a husky that this did not work for. Let him know what he can chew on and what he cannot. Never hit your dog. Huskies are hard headed but they are probably one of the smartest dogs. He will know when you tell him he can't chew on something and enforce it strictly. You mess up and give him an inch and he will take a mile. By the time he is 6-7 months old you should not need the crate anymore if you are doing it right. Get him fixed or your life and that other female dog's life will be a living nightmare. If you have a fence they will tunnel under or jump over it, even if its 6 feet tall. They are escape artist if you don't get them fixed. And the very best piece of advise I can give you is that he will blow his fur twice a year. mitigate your headache by brushing him as often as you can all year long or you will have fur bunnies the size of soft balls everywhere. My wife has never met a dog that she didn't treat like her own child so keep him clean and brushed because if you are anything like my wife he will be sleeping in your bed by by 7 months. My husky has never and I mean never had an accident in the house. She did in her crate when she was a pup but from the time I put the crate away until now, she has never peed or pooped in the house. Training is not only good for you but it is good for him. The time you put into the dog will pay massive dividends in the end.
