Perfect video saved me all the pain and agony of ordering different companies to see what the difference was. Very easy video to figure out your always Great about making videos that are just things that people really don’t think much about making public! Big help saved me tremendous thank you!
I've tried both of these also and I agree with your comments. An additional point I'd like to point out is that it's nigh impossible to remove the hoop with the Pintech rim guard on. I made my own triggers and I fiddle with them from time to time. This requires removing the hoop and batter head. With the Pintech, I couldn't fit the drum key onto the lug bolts. Each time, I had to pull the Pintech off to get to the bolts. This was a PAIN. As such, I stopped using the Pintechs. The UFO Drums rim guard didn't have this problem. Having said all this, I've recently opted to forego rim guards. IMHO, it looks better (and is cheaper).
1:35 if you want to calculate how much you will need: 3.1416 * (diameter + 1)= inches of material (14" snare needs 3.1416 * 14 + 1 == 3.1416 * 15 = 47" of material) 3.1416 * (diameter + 1 ) * 2.54 = centimeters of material (14" snare needs 3.1416*(14+1)*2.54 == 3.1416*15*2.54=120 cm of material) I used to mess all the time with inches to cm conversions The +1 is to add for the approximate extra inch of the rim top
I've never tried DDT. The thing I wonder about, is that not all drummer like a very thick rubber rim (like you and me) some guys like a really thin rubber rim to retain that acoustic feel. But they always break, so it kinda becomes pointless.
65 Drums I think you can get used to a thick one. It does not really matter if the snare is big enough, but it is very annoying if the pad is small. You will always hit the rim.
I just got 13" ddt rimnoise eliminator. But now i have a problem. I use it with Roland dual trigger with TD12 and it does not recognize the crossticks and rimshots. What should i do?
I have an acoustic drum set, which is a Tama Superstar Classic. I've always wanted some rubber rims to kinda work on my drum fills, because I tried to do a drum fill and I cut my finger on the metal rim. So that's why I wanna get some.
I just got the 14'' from UFO Drums, I got it on but like you said it is a bit of a pain to install for sure. Also funny how the rubber rim came in the same day you posted this video :)
thank you very much for your video. I'm about to embark on the project of converting one of my old acoustic drums into an edrum. using an old ROLAND TD8. I'm choosing the most suitable triggers and the best, most effective mounting technique, if you have any advice on this I thank you in advance. Also, sorry for the silly question, I would like to know what the real advantage is in installing the rubber on the rim. thanks for your help
I like the Pintech but.. I’m utilizing Ddrum Pro triggers with my conversion kit. Can the Pintech design be used with this or will I need to go with the Alien by-the-foot option?
can you make a review of the Pintech e-Cymbals? it will be really great if you try them with the same level of quality of your videos. thanks in advance.
Can you pop an RT30HT trigger over these? Conversely, if you cut out a spot to allot trigger to sit on rim, would it still trigger the rim that’s covered in rubber?? Thanks :)
Don't waste you money on these just buy rubber fuel line hose ,you can get 25 feet of it for 20 bucks ,i did all my drums with this and i still have some left over. It works great and is very durable.
My rubber rims literally last only hours, if not minutes. Until I changed my hoops to S-hoops (google those). There are no rubber rims for those, obviously, so I cut them myself from a rubber sheet. Now indestructible.
Hey Justin, do you know any way how to use an x-hat for an electronic kit? Would splitting the hihat control input of the module with a stereo splitter work? Even if controlling the x-hat with your foot was impossible, is there a way to have a non -moving one? Sorry for all the headache but i couldnt find any info regarding this on the forums and i though you might be the guy to know the answer, so thanks a lot :P Love the channel
65 Drums basicly its just a second hi-hat that is usually placed towards the right side of the kit (for right handed setups) and its either attached to a non moving cymbal arm or its controlled by a remote high hat pedal so it can functiom just like a regular hi-hat Drummers like Thomas Lang create really cool stuff using them
my alesis crimson rim protector shreds so easily im not even a heavy hitter.. but again its so hard to ship anything here in the philippines so i think ill go with the diy self solution.. i might try the rubber fuel line.. great video though!
Why not head down to Home Depot and get some weather stripping? I'm seeing some on their website for like $12 for 84 inches. VS the Pintech that's $10 for just one drum.
i just converted a snare i had with a jobecky side trigger and i couldn't justify spending the money on the rubber for the rim. I have always been a proponent of finding and item in common usage in another field ( i remember seeing a "Framing hammer" for making picture frames, it was 40 euros! It was a hammer, same one in the hardware store was 10 euro. I digress...) I liked the idea of the fuel line hose, but that is still a little pricey here in Ireland, and hard-ish to find, then I found this on amazon ; www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0758CL7MP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it's edging for car doors, it has a sticky strip that runs down the inside as well, it's not as thick as the fuel hose so won't give you as much protection on the rim but it is cheap and should be available in any car parts shop. It has an interesting profile shape, kind of like the "a" in the old ableton live logo. It only arrived this morning and I've just put it on the snare so we will see how it goes. Thanks for the all the great videos Justin, as a beginner all the content, testing, opinions and suggestions are invaluable. Take care... Alan.
@@65Drums lol I'm like holy shit he's trying to break them like TODAY!! How is the UFO rim by the foot holding up? Can you tune the heads while it's still on?
rim....'CONDOM'! You won't hear me asking for THAT at my local music shop....
Yeah that's why I ordered it online lol
How do I order by the foot? Do I order multiple?

Justin, going through an AtoE conversion now. Your channel has been very helpful! Thanks.

for all my setups I use Pintech. It's just easier for me to get the stuff I need have a nice day and keep playing

Thanks man :)
Or you could just use a tape measure. Or you could use a piece of string and measure it. Just make sure to order a little extra and trim to size.
I tested 4 so far. The Roland ones are good. But the best ones are DDT. I think they are indestructible. They are massive and wont break:)
I've never tried DDT. The thing I wonder about, is that not all drummer like a very thick rubber rim (like you and me) some guys like a really thin rubber rim to retain that acoustic feel. But they always break, so it kinda becomes pointless.

I meant to say external trigger, RT-30HR.
The conversion set is looking great! Another great video!
Thanks! the set is very fun to play
Great video as always! Thank you for the information.
Thanks for watching Victor :)

I think the biggest difference in acoustic loudness is due to those example toms are not the same model / size / depth.

What would you buy for rims that curve in like the Tama SLP? I find the Pintech don't seem to work well with these.
Can you pop an RT30HT trigger over these?
Conversely, if you cut out a spot to allot trigger to sit on rim, would it still trigger the rim that’s covered in rubber??

Wow I was thinking of doing that! You have made some video of how you put them in the rims?
I'll have to try that sometime

What is an x-highhat?

Drummers like Thomas Lang create really cool stuff using them
Will these work well in combination with silent mesh heads
Nice… now, after some time, what would your veredict be in terms of durability an feel?… id most appreciate your comments. Thx
I don't know, because I kinda just stopped using rubber rims
@@65Drums uh ok... well thx Justin !
Justin good christian, saying Rim Condom is somehow really funny : D
Nice
:)
I think I'm gonna go with UFO side mount drum triggers, any opinions? Should I use the 35mm piezos or the smaller one
I havn't used any trigger from them, so I don't know. I believe the larger piezos are more sensitive, but double check on that.
@65 Drums Do these rims work with die-cast hoops?
does a rubber rim affect the general quietness of a pad (i mean even when you don't hit the rim) or it has an effect just when you hit the rim?
my alesis crimson rim protector shreds so easily im not even a heavy hitter.. but again its so hard to ship anything here in the philippines so i think ill go with the diy self solution.. i might try the rubber fuel line..

I'll have to try the fuel line too :)

in your opinion, whats the best electronic drumset for 2500 to 3000 (CAD)
as of right now, TD25KV
Ever tried the r-drums rubber rim silencer?
Nope not yet
It took about 4 months to destroy my Pintech rubber rim on my snare. I rim shot often though
That's not good at all :/
Maybe you will have better luck.
Man you really wacked those rims lol
I can hit hard when I want to lol
@@65Drums lol I'm like holy shit he's trying to break them like TODAY!! How is the UFO rim by the foot holding up? Can you tune the heads while it's still on?
Yeah the rim is still holding up fine. It makes it harder to tune, but it's still possible
I bought my rim condom for the same seller. It worked pretty okay, but smelt really really bad. Like rubber + sewage.
The smell goes away I think.
Jasper Carnivore str8 is here to save you :)
Cool vid :) .. Im just gonna order the condoms, not ask for them in any store😂😂
hahahha
my roland snare rubber rings split all the time ...they are useless
you must be a really hard hitter
im early love the vids
Thanks dude!
3rd comment:)
hi :)
