Hey Ryan. For your comment about dethatching too early…one thing I worry about is putting fertilizer down to get things growing and then 2 or 3 weeks later doing a dethatch. Should I wait for the first application of fertilizer until the dethatch is done? Worried that gets too late. Cheers
Hey Ryan thank you for the great job you do 💪🏽💪🏽 quick question I did soil test came back saying low on N and K which fertilizer you recommend and when to do it to not have the grass stress from the heat on this summer
So it's mid-April. I still have some scattered spots in my lawn with lots of brown grass blades mixed in. I'm hoping it's just leftover fine fescue that hasn't greened up yet because the rest of my grass (mix of rye, tall fescue, and KBG) is very green already.
Ryan! Been watching you for years buddy. Looking forward to your new lawn on the front of your property! Question.. where did Connor go!? Has he given up on the lawn care world? If you talk to him, let him know he’s got a fan who’s ready for an update. Thanks! Keep up the good work sir!
one nice thing about a spring seeding - even if it nearly all dies off in the summer - is that it will get some life in the soil; growing in organic matter(down in vs just top dressing) with lots of root pathways that another fall seeding can use, and those will help with soil compaction, aeration, and water retention over hard dry 'dead' dirt .....at least that is what happened to me last year, as I had to put something down to cover the dirt; altho it didn't do well thru the summer, when I redid it in the fall things went extra good in then better soil
Ah thanks. I was going to de thatch but i'll wait until fall probably this year. It's tough to get the timing down on the pre emergent, especially now in the northeast with 55 degree days and 20 degree nights. But after you said it's not going to control certain weeds anyway, the pre emergent may not even help my specific issue anyway! I've got this one spot in my yard that has creeping charlie, or clover looking weeds that NOTHING seems to kill. The spray stuff i've used on it, even round up, just turns it yellow and it comes right back.
What u think about clover? I leave them. They are green and soft. Also I have like 40 huge pine trees around property 1acre. Should I dethatch to help growth? Just too big, and too much to just rake and blow.
Do you plan to do a video or add micro clover to your grass care guides? I think it’d be informative for those that have it or want to add some to their lawn. Personally I have it mixed in my lawn and love the added benefits of it.
I'd be interested in hearing more about your tree planting efforts too. I loved your Royal Frost birch from the house that I plan on planting that myself this spring

Get out there with a rake and rake the spots where there’s snow mold. That will let the grass under it breath and get some sun. Just mow it off, it’ll be fine. This year before winter comes mow as short as you think you can go. Don’t scalp it but have it nice and short. The reason you got snow mold is the grass was left too long during winter so when it snowed it just folded over the grass and keep it from drying out and caused the snow mold.
@@fettyguapo thanks, I raked it out last year and it recovered eventually but it was a lot of work. I only had it at 1.5” both years since my reno. I’m going to need to over seed this spring, have a bunch of moss. Would thatching the moss up he better than a moss killer? Thinking that if I put the moss killer down, it would be similar to the pre-emergent? Thank you for all you do!
Yeah removing it with a thatcher would be a good idea but if it's really heavy, the issue is likely to come back from too much shade or too much moisture or both

Unfortunately no. Your only option would be to really break up that existing soil and hope but once that barrier is created it's not 100% you'll get good seed germination

I'm in Northern IL (Chicago suburbs). The rule of thumb is to apply pre emergent when soil temperatures reach 55 degrees. I usually do it early/mid April, give or take on when it decides to warm up. Hope I was able to help. Since your just a bit further north I'd say mid April or even late April would probably be just fine
In WI and monitor soil temps nearing 50 degrees. It can really depend on our weather, but when you start seeing consistent daytime temps of 50. Can use different apps/websites to monitor the soil temps.
Mr. Knorr, I follow your channels regularly--even your house build. Here's the deal: no one I can find--No, Not One--deals with this pesky and frustrating Transition Zone. Thanks Ryan! I did a renovation last year. The new grass came in pretty thin. Do you think I should seed again or pre emergent? Thanks!
What type of grass seed?

@@staveb0mb since TTT doesn’t spread like KBG, spreading more wouldn’t hurt.
Scott’s has a a starter fertilizer that has mesotrione in it for weed control.
I noticed the frogs here in the Northeast as well this week!!!!
Great vid
My lawn has bunch of weeds that don’t seem to want to die! I just bought my house last summer and I am new to the lawn game! Any tips from anyone? I have used weed killer but none of it seems to work!
How many tests are you going to need bug lot
I need help getting rid of moss
Usually a sign of too much shade or too much moisture. If either or both of those can be adjusted that usually helps.
When would you recommend to do a pre emergent in southeastern Wisconsin?
I'm in Northern IL (Chicago suburbs). The rule of thumb is to apply pre emergent when soil temperatures reach 55 degrees. I usually do it early/mid April, give or take on when it decides to warm up. Hope I was able to help. Since your just a bit further north I'd say mid April or even late April would probably be just fine
In WI and monitor soil temps nearing 50 degrees. It can really depend on our weather, but when you start seeing consistent daytime temps of 50. Can use different apps/websites to monitor the soil temps.

My local turf expert that works with pro fields and golf courses told me never to seed in the spring ever in my state.
Ill move to battery power when they make a push mower that can actually cut 1/2 acre on one charge...
Haaa not going to happen
yes.
when did you move?
Mr. Knorr,
I follow your channels regularly--even your house build. Here's the deal: no one I can find--No, Not One--deals with this pesky and frustrating Transition Zone. Here in Middle TN, the timing is off, we get freezes one day after 80° sun, then buckets of rain, then a freeze, then more 80° followed by 28°.
Watcha got for us?
No one else has ANYTHING.
Let’s go!
Sand! I'm waiting to know when to pull that trigger.
Did you not do a dormant seeding test area last year or did I dream that?😂
Gas for my mower since it a couple acres. The rest for me is electric.
Looking forward for new season videos! And some reviews I hope! My lawn is ready (early green up!)
I've had my mower for 10+ years and haven't done a single oil change on it yet. Runs like a top. lol
