I'm probably very late to the party of suggestions about this one, but:
About the seasons, it's not necessary to have the usual suspects here (winter, autumn,...) instead you can have something different like rainy season where the island is soaked by rain; on the other spectrum you can have a dry(hot) season where there is very little rain. You can have something in between.
On another hand, since this is a goblin game, maybe the seasons are not similar to our since they see the world differently, so why not something migrating season, where we can see a lot of birds flying off in a specific direction over the island, or a infestation season, where the island is "attacked" by huge swarms of grasshoppers.
I mean this is just what comes to mind at the moment, with a bit of brainstorming, you can figure them out in a way to best fit the game.

  • @CrabQueen
    @CrabQueen 4 месяца назад +59

no-leaf winter is a good idea for the temperate regions.
but also, Mr. Watt, How do you plan to make the goblin settlement different from the human incursion?
We're both expanding and extracting resources, clearing forests and such. I feel like the goblins need some way to take care of the island, otherwise the only real difference between humans and goblins will be aesthetics

something that’d be really cool is if you could expand the town center thingy as the game progresses- that way it’ll allow villagers to do more stuff with the limited pixels. Plus, if you made it so that players can’t place stuff on the town square area. That makes it easier to make preset stuff to load onto it when a holiday happens!

Your game looks super impressive for 1.5 years of work, especially since that's on top of a full time job!
Also, as for sleep, I like Valheim's approach to it, however it doesn't add intensity, just offers incentive. When you spend some time in shelter or sleep in a bed, you get a "Rested" buff for a certain amount of time depending on how well-decorated your shelter was. It offers multiple benefits, such as increased skill XP gain and stamina recovery speed, so it's worth having up all the time. The immediate incentive is to get the buff, the latent one is to decorate your home/shelter better.

Yes, letting the varmints stick around is EXACTLY the sort of sprinkling that makes games great! You've got another follower, Goblin Stardew Valley looks wonderful!
Feature suggestion for the magic warpaint: Have it work by both the type and the location to determine the spells it gives. So maybe the head slot is utility, arm slot is offense, torso slot is defense, and leg slot is mobility. In that order, the fire war paint would give heat vision radar, fire bolt, burn away debuffs, or a burst of speed that leaves a fire trail; the ice war paint would let you create ice blocks/walls/bridges, a freeze ray, a thick layer of ice armor, or ice skates that let you glide over floor traps.
It would add a lot of complexity so that is definitely a suggestion for way down the line, but you've already got the foundation for something that would give a lot of player agency!

    Regarding Michael: absolutely perfect, I love his vibe, no notes - bar one;
You could have some kind of (optional?) cutscene/event where you like, ask him "what's with the mask" and he's like "I don't know what you mean! I am just a fellow goblin!" but then you and all the other town goblins are like "yeah dude we know you're a human, we've known all along, you're just chill and we like your vibe" and can convince him to de-mask and it could be really wholesome - just having Michael be the one human that the goblins are all okay with - could add to the charm of the character, idk. Love the guy regardless. 🥰

For the concept on how to get more npcs (and extra resources) on the island. Maybe the humans bring more stuff onto the island from the mainlands? They could travel via boat, or magical airship every season change to bring supplies to the humans already stationed on the island. Sometimes they have goblins on their ships too, as stowaways.
Additional idea with Michael. I think it would be cool if he had a friendship route unlocked via buying from his shop where it's slowly revealed he's human. Maybe he's an advocate for good human and goblin relations, but the other humans think he's crazy for that. And maybe the goblins still like him after he's outed as human, because he's already considered a real goblin by the goblins.

I have never heard of/ seen your game before watching this video and I have to say this, your game looks really good, I like the procedurally generated worlds that make the game different though multiple play throughs.
I think it would be cool to see the goblins going from a small staring town (tutorial) to fighting bosses/becoming the strongest on the island and becoming a full on civilization.
This could be done with fighting against, humans, trolls mages, elf’s and other creatures as a sort of way to instill a sense of progression, by fighting up the pecking order since goblins are considered lower monsters in fantasy games/books. These aspects could be randomized so that you fight against multiple races to get to the top and eventually claim the land as your own over the different procedurally generated worlds (take tribes of midguard for example but expand) Just an idea to make the game feel more like repeatable progression.
I really like the idea of cutscenes that are hand made, separating yourself from other games while also taking inspiration is big, don’t let other games hinder you, make a game that you and your fans can be proud of, think of how your going to get people into your game, if they feel like there isn’t an end goal what is all the work/progression for?
I subbed to see the progress of the game, this really looks promising, not saying you need to take every suggestion I made for it to be good but I’m interested to see where your game goes up until release. Good luck on everything man, don’t let the little things hold you up from making a good game.

In reference to the Town Square, it would be cool to have it as a multiblock structure so that the size could be changed depending on how good your resources are. As you progress you modify/upgrade Town Square out of better and better materials, bigger event spaces will hold both higher quantities and better quality POIs. At later levels your potlucks get better and give better buffs, the minigames are more complex and maybe have chances for rare rewards, Michael sells better items as he is able to negotiate with wealthier merchants, and duels against other goblins that increase in difficulty to obtain weapon skills (another idea mentioned next paragraph), spells, trinkets, etc. This makes it so that ass you progress through the game, the culture of your town would change and feel like it is living and developing. Maybe other structures like this could show the NPCs personalities in different ways?
Weapon, shield, and armor skills could be similar to the spells you equip , but instead they could give some kind of special attack, allow spear recall, or allow armors to block different types of damage, increase dodge distance, etc. maybe you little trinkets on your armor that resist spells, tie a rope to your spear to call it back to your hand, or embed a feather in your sword or axe to charge a spin-to-win attack.
I'm really interested to see how the game turns out! I can tell you are putting a lot of love into this project and its cool to see someone so talented put people's ideas into your game to make something that everyone will love. Can't wait to play this!

What if each body part painted had a different effect?
Like fire paint on the arms let you shoot a fireball BUT fire paint on the legs made you leave a fire trail when rolling for a short time?
Wind paint on arms could give you an attack speed buff, while on the legs it gives you a movement speed buff.
And maybe the more of each elemental paint you have on your body, the more powerful the effects, or passives? Like set bonuses. That way you could combine a combo of different elements that work great together, or forgo a powerful ability in order to set a set bonus you want; adding more thought to applying your paints.

Sometimes youtube serves you up an absolute banger: I'm so happy I stumbled on this video... your game looks amazing!💕 So many adorable details, it looks absolutely crafted with love❤
Is the mushroom hat available for our mc to wear? Im gonna need that, and maybe some mushroom qar paint 😄 As much as I love the cute big black eyes, I think the yellow looks better. It's truer to the character designs and gives a sort of glow effect to the sprites and helps their eyes to stand out better. Adding this to my wishlist!❤I cannot wait to play!😍

First time seeing this game, liked and subbed instantly, but it does seem like the game has quite a lot of mechanics. I hope the game is made so that you slowly unlock mechanics as the game goes on, since that can make or break a game (for me at least)

Good stuff! I really like the Gnome/ Over the Garden Wall vanity set :)
As for the new features, perhaps the grog bog debuff could come with a bit of a buff for attacks? Similar to Terraria's Ale and Sake. And the nocturnal nature of goblins is a clever way to adjust the game to the habits of players, since in many games night bad day good no matter what or who you are.
Seeing how building works, i wonder if there will be more options for peeps like me who like to focus on building a tad bit more than the average shoebox house maker. Maybe the player could build second floors, but i know how much of a headache they are so if you were to go ahead with the idea, it would be wise for them to be inaccessabke, instead acting like attics where you could store items.

I like the san diego winter in your game, personally! I have a hunch others might not be as supportive of the idea due to it kinda breaking the status quo of what feels "classic" in games, but that's exactly why I like it - its unexpected, just as many other of your implemented features!
In my opinion, would be good to also add in some fallen leaves or mud to make the environment feel a bit weter and colder. I think it could help give the winter it's own visual identity, if you get what I mean.
Overall, very happy to see how far this project has come and I am in full support.

feature suggestion: for the grog i feel would make it both fun and useful is if it can actually boost your damage for a short duration but with the negative of making you nauseous and having your screen move around like in minecraft. this allows it to be especially useful for more skillful players
