btw if you’re confused about the “do you remember this place? do you have any of her memories?” line it’s because gems don’t understand the concept of giving birth or having your own children, so when rose gave up her physical form they perceived it as rose *turning* into steven instead of steven being someone else.
of course now they know he’s not rose but maybe she thought they still had a connection like that

"Rose has some secrets." ...Well, that is surely the truth. 😬
“I feel bad for Pearl,” is a sentiment that carries easily through the whole show. All the gems paid a price with the loss of Rose, but Pearl especially did. Steven and Pearl’s relationship is a very interesting one, because-as your picked up on-Pearl and Rose had a very intimate relationship. With Rose no longer here though, and Steven in her place, it leaves Pearl in a really weird and difficult situation, cuz Steven is here now in her stead, but Pearl can’t pursue that old relationship anymore. In addition to that, Steven has no recollection of the memories that Rose carried with her. It’s a rocky dynamic for a good long while, for more than half the show, but it gets to a better place eventually.

Episodes like these remind me why Pearl is my favorite Gem. She's so elegant and graceful and poised..but extremely flawed in very human ways and becomes a total mess when it comes to Rose. Dope reactions bro
The Pilot is the first episode produced of a show. But pilots aren't always aired, or sometimes are heavily re-edited when they actually become episode 1.
So Steven universes Pilot had a very different art style and tone, which they ended up not being happy with and so they changed things drastically for episode 1.
And thank God they did change it
I don't think i'd follow the story with that type of artstyle didn't feel like it matches with the story

We sometimes use "pilot" to mean something that guides a machine or system. Like drilling a Pilot Hole to guide a screw. The Pilot Episode tests things out before the actual show starts its full run.

The pilot episode is the episode they show to executives to see if they like it. Sometimes they show the pilots on tv and let the audience vote for the best show, and sometimes the pilot airs as the first episode,
You’re spot on with the Kindergarten’s purpose! They’re essentially hubs to create gems in bulk, converting and draining a planet’s resources in the immediate area and turning them into gems. This process, however, leaves the surrounding area in a state of decay, to where the soil can never be fertile again. Life takes root in a Kindergarten ONCE…and then nothing but death resides in after.
Something I think is interesting in the flashback, Pearl says she's okay with leaving everything she has ever known to never go home and stay on Earth because of Rose but then Rose turns into Steven *leaving* Pearl
Gems definitely develop romantic relationships like Greg and Rose and a couple others you'll see.
As the series started to unravel, even though we get to see the Crystal gems who are the "powerful guardians of life on Earth", we begin to slowly see their flaws one by one like a human. Amethyst feels insecure about her identity and existence, Pearl is obsessed with Rose that she feels useless without being used by a powerful figure. Soon you'll see more of the rest like Garnet's.

the art style there is different, rebecca sugar, creator of Steven Universe actually worked with Adventure time too,
i aint spoiling anything on that pilot, but, thats all im gonna say heheh
Kindergarten is where the gems are born. They basically seed an area with those big crystal spider things you've seen in earlier episodes and gems grow from the natural resources, so that's what all those holes in the walls are - where gems were born and work their way out. They eventually would have destroyed the entire planet doing this, which is what Rose and the Crystal Gems stopped 6,000 years ago. Peridot wants to re-start this process on Earth assuming all the gems there from Rose's uprising were dead and gone. Amethyst was flawed in some way, she's half the size she's meant to be and was left behind.

The many secrets of Rose indeed. I really appreciate that you're giving it serious thought and trying to unravel the relationships and the mysteries as you go. It can be easy to write off cartoons and watch them at a surface level, but you're diving in. I'm so glad the characters have caught your interest.
When Greg didn’t say what happened to Steven’s mom, it wasn’t a spoiler. He tells us Rose gave up her physical form to have Steven back in episode 2. It’s just hard for him and even the gems to talk about sometimes. That doesn’t mean they don’t love Steven, they love him very much. It’s just that they miss Rose a lot. She was the Gem’s best friend and leader for thousands of years and Greg’s first and only true love.
I hope u payed attention to the conversation Steven had with Peridot cause that will be EXTREMELY important later
The episode where he changed his life
Sometimes pilots episodes will go on to be the first episode of a series and sometimes they'll get remade for the series. A lot of times with cartoons the pilots will be very different from the actual cartoon even down to the art styles being different. The Steven Universe pilot and the Bob's Burgers pilot are two examples of this. You should check both of them out they are very entertaining.

Peridot referenced the red eye which was the thing they fought in episode two! wasn't sure if you caught that and didn't say anything, but i still wanted to point it out since you like how the show references itself
The heavy and real subjects that were shown in su, is what made me enjoy this show also. Not many series talk about these subjects, it's refreshing to see.
That moment when you realize that the reason Steven's outfit never changes might be because the gems don't usually "change" outfits and he is desperate to fit in and proof he is a part of the crystal gems any way he can. I mean it's not a money issue, when his laundry is shown he has tons of shirts and jeans. All the exact same. He wants to have a "signature look" to fit in with the other gems.

It's very interesting seeing the relationship the gems have with Rose and Greg, Amethyst loved Rose something like a mother and Perl holds her to very high standards. Though Greg has done nothing rong he ends up between ther conflicting emotions of the gems love of Rose and raising Steven.
"The Crystal Gems?!" Peridot is evidently out of the loop about a lot of the history of Gems on Earth.
The diamonds seem like they tried to hide it and forget about them.

The Diamonds in Era 2 seemed to treat the rebellion like the Japanese authorities during WW2...combat survivors of disasters like Midway or Guadalcanal were ordered to keep silent about their experiences to protect morale, so nobody who wasn't at these battles would know how badly the war had turned.
Blue Zircon and even the Off-Colors had heard about what Rose Quartz had done, but nothing official was released about it, and Peridot obviously didn't even know about the rebellion (at least before she "reported").
Not saying anything for spoiler reasons, but can't wait for his reaction to the season finale lol
Pilot episode is the selling episode of a series for some, it is the first episode and for some it’s episode 0.
Avatar the last airbender has an unaired pilot you can find on youtube.

Pilots being the testing episode can have similar or completely different designs and other background info that may or may not be canon. Things are not dead set for alot of them
Like Avatar pilot is not canon, with Kya’s name being changed to Katara and the name Kya given to Katara’s mom in the official. Steven universe pilot is canon, but the change was in the art style.
Since you finished this show, Pearl was Roses Pearl or Pink Diamonds Pearl and she was very close to her after spending time with her and being free because of her so she is more connected to Rose than the others, also cause she kept the secret about her being Pink Diamond.

First episodes aren't always the pilots but Pilots always do come first so there may be a pilot and then an actual first episode things like character designs voice actors and animation style can change in between pilot and first episode

It’s horribly cruel, she turned herself into his dead wife (“What do you mean you weren’t technically married.”) just to taunt him.
Character drama is something the show does quite well
that first ep amethyst really crossed a line.... but also she KNOWS she did. that was deliberate. we see moments where each of the gems treat someone else less than stellar, but amethyst we see be actually mean here

I mean, Steven gets his clothes from his dad, so he doesn't change except for a few outfits here and there.
In almost all series, the pilot episode is the first one presented, whether or not its story establishes the series and its characters. For other shows, it's not so clear cut...the original Star Trek series had two official pilot episodes, a first production episode, and finally the first episode that was actually broadcast (making a possible total of four pilot episodes). Steven Universe had a non-series proof-of-concept episode, which is called the pilot episode even though it wasn't broadcast, which had the same voice actors and characters but a very different artistic style.
Note that the VCR went blank at Steven's shocked reaction. Also note how Amethyst was desperate to make amends; also Rose Quartz's courteous behavior towards Pearl in the holographic recording.
Earlier there was the "halloween" episode, and now the New Year's episode, so combined with the blizzard story the series indicates the passage of time. Marble Madness presumably takes place in the spring following, which means about a year has passed since the first episode Gem Glow, when trees were in bloom. Nice grasp of detail by the Crewniverse.

Just so you know, you don't need to mess with the image to avoid copyright claims. Most youtubers show both image and sound as is. Just editing the reaction video does most of the trick. I would recommend you to find some updated guidelines about that, because it would make your videos so much more appreciable. It's hard to vibe with you when we struggle to understand what you're watching, especially for an old show we didn't see in a while. Just saying, the last person to follow that advice gained a lot of subscribers.

"I've seen your junk before" from amethyst to greg. +Those two reminiscing on spending nights at a time bingeing shows together. +Amethyst's jealousy induced breakdown to Greg about Rose. She liked him, and doesn't feel good enough because he chose Rose. Those two were ABSOLUTELY piping. I would even go as far as to say (since she's clearly shapeshifted into Rose for Greg before) that she helped Greg cope with the loss of his wife by shapeshifting into Rose, fulfilling the temptations of both parties. It's messed up, its toxic, and its INSANELY good writing.
Rose's Scabbard is one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen
Im not sure how far you are now but every gem has a purpose, well had. Rose changed all of that. Thats all I'll say, I dont want to risk saying too much but its so fun watching you go through it for the first time, reminds me of my excitement and curiousity
Honestly, it makes sense that Rose wanted a better transportation method outside the warp pad that no other gems knew about. That commute to the armory looked pretty annoying lol

A pilot episode is an episode made to get the channel it will air on to green light the show. y know, like to see of they think it's a good concept. The first episode can be a pilot but it isn't always. It usually goes the pilot is made, the channel sees if it's good enough, and the first episode is made. Steven Universe has a pilot then a 1st episode.

The story in Ep. 43 is that Amethyst liked Greg, even though Greg liked Rose, Similiar to how Pearl felt about Rose. When Greg said "I can't let you do this to me again!" It was to imply that in the past Amethyst shapeshifted into Rose to trick him into cheating on her. Really deep stuff.
It was THAT? I just got that implication from this comment, holy shit…

@@FlamesUp1602 So basically, Steven gains this new power in SUF where he can telecast his memories or subconscious on any electronic with a screen when he gets too emotional. I forgot what episode it was in SUF but I know Peridot was in it. In some cases, he simply disrupts the connection of an electronic.
So here, when he was suddenly face-to-face with an imitation of his mother, you can pretty much see his heart stop for a moment, causing the tv to go to static. It was like a little hint of one of the powers he would get in the future and I never noticed that.
