i'm getting that same code on my jeep commander, looks like i got my fix. i just have to go out and buy the solenoid and do exactly like you did. thanks for the fast and simple video.
Gary, I’m getting a P0744 code on my 2002 Nissan Frontier with 224,000 miles but the worst symptom is shudder at high speeds (this would usually happen after driving for about fifteen or twenty minutes). Last July I got rid of the shudder by dropping the pan, and changing the fluid and filter. I did a couple of drain and fills and the shudder went away for seven months but it came back in February. Did a couple more drain and fills but the shudder remains. I’m now driving with OD off and I don’t go above 50 MPH because I think this transmission wants to lock up even with OD off at higher speeds. The FSM indicates that P0744 is not an electrical malfunction but it is a mechanical malfunction so I’m looking at changing this solenoid. I can get to it since it’s at the bottom of the valve body but I’m worried about that “plate” that you mentioned in your video. How easily does that plate move when you take out the three bolts? I’ll be working with the transmission still in the car and if I can’t get the new solenoid in that would be a nightmare for me. I’m thinking of getting long bolts to slide the solenoid down then replacing one by one to keep that plate in place. Thanks in advance for your help - enjoyed the videos on your channel. Most people don’t appreciate the complexity of an AT; it’s an engineering marvel.
@@maniack56 Jorge, Yes I replaced it in November 2018 and the shudder been gone for 6000 miles now and counting. I got part # 31940-41X10 from Nissanpartsdeal for about $136. I was worried about that plate moving on the other side of the valve body so I bought some M6-100 bolts 50 mm long and cut off the head on one so when I removed the solenoid bolts i threaded this one stud into the bolt hole to keep that plate in place. I only used one home made stud. Popped out the old solenoid and slid the new one over the stud, threaded in the bolts, removed the stud and put in the last bolt. Torque down to 87 - 113 in-lbs (that's only about 9 ft-lbs). Put the pan back on with a new gasket (I used Permatex thread sealant on the bolts) and torqued the bolts to 61 to 78 in-lbs. I refilled with the same amount that I drained. Good Luck!

hello sir, I have a pathfinder 99 with this same transmission model (RE4R01A) which marks the code P0744, the truck feels heavy and slow to make the changes, on the rise or when acceleration is required, the transmission makes the change to the previous speed revolutionizing the engine a lot, on the motorway it does not change at the fourth speed, and I run it at more than 80 MPH revolutionizing it up to 4500-5k rmps to see if it makes the change to fourth and does not do it, believes that it is the problem of valve body or will I have to make a major repair? The fluid that you have looks normal
the changes are made by the soft ones, from 2 to 3 it does it around the 3500rpm, only that for example when it changes from 2 to 3, when pressing the accelerator the truck feels slow and heavy when advancing, and if I step too much the accelerator the truck goes down fast to 2 and the engine is very revolutionized above 5k rpm for the same as I'm stepping on the accelerator, what concerns me most is the fourth change that does not, because on motorway with only 3 speeds the engine is Listen very hard on rpms
A common problem with this trans is, the pump slide actuator gets burred up and hangs in the low pressure position, when this happens it usually affects either 4th or 3rd and 4th gears, with this pump slide stuck, it cant get good pressure rise ad usually burns the high clutch and band
I have a 01 nissan xterra and its throwing a p0740 code and it runs good at first and on 1-2 gears it idles to 4k rpm and then shifts but it doesn't shift to third and when I come to a stop and feels like it goes into neutral until I press the gas then it goes, but it makes this loud buzzing noise on the transmission I've switched the torque converter solinoid and it does the same what can it be? using fully synthetic fluid is fine, first did you put an o-ring on the filter? check the fluid level with the car running, is it full?. The solenoid pack is on the outside of the trans, if you look where the cooler lines are you will see the pack and the connector going to it, its held in with a bolt so its probably not loose. sometimes after a service these units tend to suck in air, is it driving ok?
Gary Ferraro thank you for your quick response. the o-ring on the filter was put in with the filter. it drives fine just the light comes on, it never came on before. if it is sucking air how do I fix it? is it maybe a hard code and not eraseable by disconnecting the battery for 15 min? I tried that and light stops for about 3-5 min., or about 4-5 miles of driving. I am not experienced in automatic transmissions. all my cars have been manual. only changed auto transmission fluid and filter on a friends Toyota years ago. but this caravan is my mother's and never had the check engine light on until right after I changed the transmission fluid. I am lost on this and really appreciate your help.
This is a mechanical code, where did you get the filter from? also low fluid can cause this code, check level again, look at each side of the the dipstick, make sure the fluid level is the same on both sides
RE4R01A I just put in a new torque converter as the internal splines were stripped out. road test good for an hour. pulled. then went to take off and begin slipping, make it back to house (12 miles) check oil scratch head etc... wait 2 hours started up and power stall and burning tires off....fast forward 1 week take a drive up on mountain roughly 25 miles no real issues, next day take same drive and coming down mountain start back to slipping.. Coast to walmart check oil level, smells shitty by now have to coast 4 miles to walmart. with it in drive on an incline rolls backwards..... So go in walmart come out 30 mins later start it up, engages good load everyone up go 3 blocks and slipping again.. get back to parking lot and notice everytime I shut the car off and restart it gets and good firm shift into the selected gear, then just fades to nothing...makes me think trans is good because I get a good firm indication.. shut down car and start right back up and get a good firm feel of the shift then fades to NOTHING...any ideas before I scrap the vehicle in question.....Bad part is I bet I go the walmart tonight (where I left it) and can drive it home with no issues.

Any idea why and if I should start looking at something else before I take it to the shop?
@@juvevalerio3240 Ok, you may have the 545RFE, first i would return to the shop and have the car scanned to confirm same code. Po740 means the converter can no longer fully lock up.
Sounds like the screen is clogging up, can you drop the pan and see what you have
I had the same code P0740 in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I took my Jeep to a transmission shop and they switched the solenoid converter clutch, a few days after I took my Jeep to the freeway as I was approaching 70 miles the engine light came back again and now what I remember is that when the first time the engine light came on I was in the freeway going at about 70 miles. Any idea why and if I should start looking at something else before I take it to the shop?
By chance to you know what trans you have in the jeep?
All I know is my motor is a V8 5.7, but I do not know much about the retransmissions.
@@juvevalerio3240 what year is the jeep
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
@@juvevalerio3240 Ok, you may have the 545RFE, first i would return to the shop and have the car scanned to confirm same code. Po740 means the converter can no longer fully lock up. If the solenoid pack did not fix the problem, it could be something internal possibly in the pump or the converter itself. this is not a common issue for this trans
Or Is It Just A Solenoid In General
hola amigo una preguntar adonde yeba el sensor dela tubina una chevi suburban ano 99
Translation
Yes
@gary ferrano thanks for the video, I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty sport, 3.7L v6 and the error code comes up as p0740 torque converter clutch. Could doing this fix it?
No, This is a different trans all together, on this trans 45RFE, the 740 means the converter can no longer fully lock up, this is a mechanical problem.
Yo lo saqué y en verdad lo que les falla a ése solenoide es que pierde el contacto electrónico adentro lo abrí y lo volví a conectar y el multimetro lo lee
Did not like being bombarded with commercials right away
sorry about that
Yea I had my fluid change at 80k on my 2013 Dodge Avenger and I’m getting this code and the torque converter shudders when locking up in 6th gear so I’m sure I’m screwed probably have to rebuild the whole transmission and put a new converter in it 2 weeks out of warranty. This will be my last dodge that’s for damn sure! 😡🔫
The lock-up solenoids have problems , any shuddering or stalling when coming to a stop
Please Help me
