This was some of your best tameshigiri with this hanbon! Top review as always. Hope you enjoy the new Huawei unokubi. that thing might not "do the work for you" but if you do the work, the sword will shine for tameshigiri. Mine is worth 5x what I bought it for and I'm keeping it
@@wickedweavile4612 i bought a custom katana a couple years back. love the quality. the upgraded steel is well worth it. all the criticism of physical flaws in the video don't apply to my experience at all. I haven't run any big tests though.
Good review Matt, I bought a custom from Hanbon, came dull, rust on the Kissaki, saya was loose but is a bit tighter now, and the blade was very thin, definitely wouldn’t use it on anything more than bottles and pool noodles, good first sword for someone getting into cutting
Great review! I was looking forward to hearing more about the 'cheese grater' tsuba. If you don't have any plans for the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira, I'd love to take them off your hands. I can even toss in a Ronin RK if you want to test it on the 'croquet of doom.'
So I love all your videos, your knowledge has taught me a lot and has helped me with my past purchases with multiple swords. I'm looking to get into tameshigiri and I'm looking for cutting mats. Do you have somewhere to buy these because I'm getting no where with my online searches, it seems everyone is sold out constantly.
Hey matt love yur videos i recently ordered from han bon i was not impressed i ordered a deep sori katana and it didnt seem like it had much sori i havnt got it yet but i dont believe i will be ordering from them again. Great videos tho
I like the look of a copper habaki too, but I don't think this one is work hardened. If I'm going to get a cast habaki, I'd just as soon have brass. It might hold up a little better.
Is anyone getting swords through customs in uk as mine been seized saying its a curves blade is illegal although it had paper work proving handmade by traditional Japanese methods anyone had same problems getting their katanas through in uk ??
Since May i'm 5 swords into Hanbon. In 1060 steel I have 2 Katana and a Wakizashi. In 9260 I have one each Katana and Wakizashi. I think they're pretty competitive with their peers in the sub $300 category. With only one of them was I disappointed with the fit-and-finish. The ito wrap was actually kind of "lumpy"....although tight.
@@boogalooslav6943 I'm a very light cutter so do not get a lot of use out of any of my swords. But but I like them well enough. A little more flexible obviously than the 1060
@@michaelrs8010 yeah I'm looking for a heavy duty cutter I got a 1095 clay forged etc and its too hard of a blade.. Something good for home defence or zombies you know lol
@@boogalooslav6943 Yeah, I don't know if I would describe the HF blades as heavy duty cutters. Which I think of as routinely doing mats. I mean I think they would do pool noodles and water bottles all day. long with the occasional stropping. But I'm not sure regarding their longevity for the other
I bought a custom katana. It is beautiful but really isn't sharp at all. I tried to cut a pokemon card with it and it just didn't cut. If I put more pressure the card would rip, but no clean cut.
I find your reviews interesting ... and you may have told the audience, but I don't know this ... ... what do you do with the swords after the destructive testing?
I saw the long review too but I didn't hear nothing about the samegawa.. probably my bad..but just for curiosity, was the ray skin real on your opinion or was It plastic?
Do you think their 1060 tempered and oil quenched swords that appear to be through hardened would hold up better then the harder 1095? Curious if they could be a more affordable option then the Ronin Dojo pro?
For the kinds of things I tend to test, 1060 tends to hold up a bit better. 1095 will (if done well) hold an edge better but it looses a bit on the ability to absorb shock. I would speculate that 1060 would take more strikes on the metal rod than 1095.
@@Matthew_Jensen Waiting for a Hanbon in 1060 and received my Ronin RK #3 scratch and dent. Very happy with the #3 cant wait to start cutting here in MI. Would like to see more Hanbon blades reviewed like their 9260 and 1095 DH offering to see how they hold up. Also have a Ryujin Ko Katan 1060 DH coming to you out.
As far as see video, this type of Katana is not purpose for cutting wood! if need quality for battle-ready or even swing Katana, Tuka( grip) need to have full wrapped of SAMEGAWA to never happened crack at Fuchi. But most recent Katana-Tuka doesn't have full wrapped SAMEGAWA, Just piece of it to see as decoration. That's no meaning even swing blade. Cheap one!! Must have full wrapped SAMEGAWA and silk ITO for TUKAMAKI.
For $200 shipped, that's a pretty decent sword.

Back in my early years of buying katana's I had bought 3 Hanbon swords. Best thing I can say is they give excellent customer service.
So, would you say heyre a good seller to buy from as a first ever purchase? Looking to purchase my own first blade

Serious question: If you had to pick ONE "battle-ready" Katana under $500 as your only sword. What would it be?
I'm looking for that same answer around $250-350
For around that price I would go with a ronin katana dojo pro
Cold Steel warrior series 👍 that thing came sharp as a razor and is damn near indestructible
The Shadow from the microphone made it look like you had a black eye there for a second lol, not bad for the sub 200 katanas
I thought the same thing. I was like, that sword did him dirty!

Is the dojo pro still the king of the $300 and below market
Nice review
I wish they'd put an antique finish on the seppas. The bright new look clashes with the rest of the katana. It's a good looking sword though.

Deep sori tends to be 1"-1.5" on most modern swords under 30". Deeper is pretty rare. Hope you enjoy.
I really like that it has a copper habaki and seppa. Looks to be well worth the money

What do you do with these broken swords?
Stuff...
I have to only use Paypal to buy a sword from Hanbon???
Looks like the rouge took the edge pretty nice.
Does it do good on Bamboo
wich 1 is the best katana that wil not brake ? 🤔
They all break. I have not found one that does not break yet.
