  • A three day solo kayak trip starting from the Crotch Lake access point in Algonquin Park. The first night was on McKaskill Lake, second night on Dickson Lake and then back through Booth Lake to complete the loop.
This is a very quiet route with long portages. Though they are long, the portages are not too difficult with not much climbing. However, the 4.8 kilometre portage from Dickson to Round Island Lake does have a long steady climb for about two kilometres. The other portage of note is the Marshy Lake to Presto Lake. This portage goes through some pretty rocky sections and the trail can be hard to follow. Also, there is a section where there is no bridge crossing a creek where you will have to either paddle the short distance across or wade through.

I really appreciated this video. (admittedly I'm only half way through at this point. You are just leaving your site on Dickson). Thank you for showing the shoreline as you paddle past campsites and landmarks, like rock walls, and for the editing that shows the various sections of the portages too. It gives a real feel for the trip. I've just found your channel, and it seems to me that your videos just keep getting better. Your commentary is just enough. It's obvious you love Algonquin. .... and that site on Mudville looks really intriguing!

It looks like a sit on top kayak, if so what system did you use to portage the kayak. I have a sit on top and am trying to figure out a way to keep it above my head so I can portage it.

Wow! That's quite an accomplishment to complete this route, with all those long portages. Congratulations. I'm curious, how do you get in and out of your boat at these landings? Ie, are you able to remain dry feet or do you just give up and have cold wet feet the whole trip? If so, are you constantly changing into dry hiking boots for the portages?

Nice video, but perhaps you should re-title it three day ‘kayak’ trip.
