No because then it would be locked to the same Pokemon and would never randomise the chances for a shiny because its decided when you give the scientist the fossil
@toby_brr5824 In generation 3, (for fire red and leaf green anyway) "shininess" for the fossils are determined upon receiving the pokemon. To my knowledge the only pokemon that are decided before the encounter/recieval are entei, suicune and raikou which are determined after completing the machine on the sevii islands. I only know because I got aerodactyl about a year ago resetting in front of the scientist after leaving and re-entering the room.
@@toby_brr5824 Each NPC that you communicate with is a set-up script, so the RNG for calculating the Aerodactyl is performed once you physically speak to him; the "givemon" process is executed, and not on a transition between screens. There's a goto set-up after he has a fossil to swap the "State" of the current room, and that's what allows his script to jump to either the "fossil ready" or "do you need a fossil revived" prompts. Basically just the nerd shit version of what nicholaslizotte wrote condensed down

How did weezing take damage inbetween switching from pidgeotto to venusaur. And venusaur got a clean switch. One of your pokemon would have needed to faint for that to happen.

I'm kind of curious about the timeline where Pokemon didn't start off as handheld. Just saying, on a stronger console, you can still use the basic rpg system in the same way, but like XD and Colo showed off, you can add that compelling story. If this were as early as Pokemon Red though, then that would have meant the manga's story might be closer to the games. I'd be so interested in the story of gym leaders joining with team rocket in a real pokemon game.
AT 15:15 he switches in venusaur, and youll notice the venusaur doesnt get attacked. THe only way this would be possible is if a pokemon fainted and venusaur was switched in afterwards :3
