  • The First Medic 510 Semi Automatic Defibrillator was designed by First Medic, Inc. The company was later acquired by Spacelabs Healthcare and then again acquired by the Physio-Control Corporation in 1995. The unit is a rugged, monophasic semi-automatic defibrillator. It utilizes a unique "ammo can" design to store the battery and recorder. The unit itself is heavy - up to 17 lbs (7.7 kg) when a back-up battery is also stored in the defibrillator.

If you use the Wayback Machine to go back to Physio-Control’s old website from the late 90s you can actually see the First-Medic devices alongside Lifepak devices on their old product list

First Medic Inc. was bought by Spacelabs in 1987 - Spacelabs proper had little to do with developing these products. First Medic had a very strong development team that moved to Spacelabs en masse -

FDA lists the First Medic 610 approval as 10/06/1988 - the 510 has to be earlier, 1986 would be my guess; the 510 was developed prior to the Spacelabs acquisition (Dec 1987), and I think was the first device developed by First Medic.

+James Taylor Per the FDA 510(k) database, the 610 appears to have recieved FDA clearence before the 510 did. Perhaps it was a re-filing of the application? www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm?ID=K896903

@@Markhk It appears to be a case of going backwards in the model numbers for a bit, the 610 is a lot less refined than the 510 (most notably using a hard power switch instead of a soft power button) among other things. It also lacks some voice prompts found in the 510 such as "Check Pulse" and "Press to Analyze" instead just beeping at you.
