We build up through combinations between our fullbacks and wingers anyways, that's why Mainoo doesn't get enough of the ball either. Hojlund needs to improve massively off the ball in general in attacking situations, it's almost infuriating how poor his awareness is in certain attacking situations.. the complete opposite of what we had last season in Weghorst who was world class off the ball and the players around him benefited for it.

THen we also have to questions the players more, im getting tired of our wingers not realising we have a number 9 - could he be put to blame maybe if he telling Garnacho to constantly run into players and shoot and dont look to pass... but yes give him 1 more year, then if by nov/dec next season it will be apparent if he should get extension or not

From a neutral (Spurs fan) looking in on United - Like all things it's never just 1 issue. The main thing I see is Man Utd is not a football club, it's a brand. Any manager who comes in can't just be a tactician, players mate, the decision maker etc. They have to be a media man, politician and all the other roles that Sir Alex use to fill amazingly. Obviously, the players haven't helped with injuries, Sancho issue, Ronaldo issue, Greenwood issue but it fundamentally falls back on the manager. I know United fans would riot if Southgate came in but it may be a more savvy move than we initially think. Southgate is a yes man, he can deal with the media and leave the tactics to his coaching staff

What’s going wrong - I’ll start with my limited inside knowledge into united. Around last year I tore my hamstring and was lucky enough to see Dr Mark Gilett at the Cleavland hospital in London, he’s the chief medical officer for the premier league. I asked him who’s medical department he believed was currently the best in the league. His response now makes a lot of sense, he said Arsenal, and he said Arsenals whole
backroom staff are fantastic - lines up with their performance. I had to ask him about united, and all he did was pull a face - explains a lot!
Especially regarding our insane injury list and ridiculous procedures around injury this season. The amount of player getting reinjured is absurd, and to me that suggests a major problem with the system we have in getting players back. You saw Mctominay today, on for 15 and reinjured??
    Who is rushing these players
    back?
On top of this, I think the point needs to be made out the backroom staff are so crucial to allow the players to perform, I have no insight there, but based off the track record of the medical department so far, I can’t say I currently hold out hope. But how can you expect the players to perform if training programmes
are fucked and players are all doing the same shit? Where is the individualisation?
The reason I say that is because my other limited knowledge into professional football is that so many teams of the highest level have general training plans for everyone, how is that good enough?
I can’t stick up for the form the players have been showing this season, it’s been so poor, but you have to ask the question of the staff who are programming for them. These players who did decent last year and we have some individuals who genuinely are quality, don’t just fall off a cliff. Something has to be wrong behind the scenes.
I think we also need to actually ask the question around Rashford as well. Is this guy ACTUALLY ok? The guy had a quality year last year and this year has fallen off a cliff. He needs help, he needs support and the club appear to not be giving him that support. Idk if the club have a sport psych but it’s negligence if they don’t. A good sport psych would make a world of difference at united. I’m saying this from my current training in that field as it’s coming to an end.
The whole thing looks broken, the atmosphere and the relationships. I hope INEOS have something in mind to fix this, but I can’t see it being a quick fix.

I honestly think this season has been the perfect storm of problems. Injuries, major falling outs, player off field problems, low morale, combined with a group of players that already has more than a few bad attitudes and egos has made them show even worse. Basically the same group of players last season looked happy and played well, seem to fall apart whenever they go through hardship or poor form. This combined with Ten Hags lack of will to adapt or change things, has made us show our true colors. I think once we start to sell off so many of those bad attitudes this summer and assuming we can get the right players in and a fully healthy squad, we’ll look much better once we’re reset. Got to be ruthless with sales and recruitment though. I still think it takes another full year though of continuing to be precise in our actions instead of completely disjointed before we see significant change.

The only way we move up the table next year is a) Other teams fall off for whatever reason.
    B) We move on players who cannot play possession based high line high iq players and bring in: 2 high line good on the ball oassing centerbacks, a striker to rotate with howjlund, a leftback who can stay fit or a rightback and dalot can play leftback and most importantly and where i would soend the biggest is at cdm or 6. Look at the top 3 and see what they have spent to cover that role. Arsenal=110mil Rice City=Rodri who if they had to buy would be a 100mil player, liverpool=2-4 players in mcallister endo gravenberch and szoboslai which is well over 110mil in players. This is our key focal point player and this player needs to be able to tackle defend pass or dribble out from the back and have a workrate that is the highest on the team.

LB: a RB out of position
CM: a kid and 3rd/4th choice
    CAM: 1st choice
    LW: a kid; 2nd choice
    RW: 1st choice
    FW: only choice
We have injuries out the ass, players horrifically out of form and commitments being questioned. Three of our starters are kids who are being forced to play every game due to a lack of options. We have eight players who would otherwise have started in our defence currently missing. And despite all that, we were winning the game until a stupid individual error let Burnley get back into it. I doubt many fans are unrealistic about what timescale the team needs to contend at the upper end again but we are not seeing any progression. It's actually the opposite. The brightest moments in terms of coherent play was against Palace reserves in the EFL. That's a sad indictment of how poor the team has become. This season is a write off, I want to see a firm direction in terms of squad shaping in the summer even if it means another season outside the top 4. No more quick fixes, 2nd choices, bargain signings. No more players signed at 29 or above. No more players on £300k a week

Our mentality is shit , can’t hold a lead , same issues every week . The manager and the coaching staff must be seeing this so they are either shit at their jobs or the players don’t want to listen , hopefully the new hierarchy can get to grips with this.
Personally if it was possible I’d clear out most of the playing staff with the exception of Mainoo , Hojlund , Amad onana and Martinez and I’d bring in a new set of coaches to work under ETH , bring through more of the youngsters and some new signings and start from scratch, can’t be worse than this shit show

Antony had 8 shots, why? when your striker has 0? This team is just very poorly coached and they do nothing on the training pitch. Rasmus is doing the best he can with what he’s given, it’s the wide attackers who are letting him down.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think part of the reason Amrabat looks so poor is that both Serie A and international football aren't at the same standard as the Premier League is.
We've seen countless players do decently at international tournaments and then not match it at club level.
And in recent years, we've seen a lot of Premier League cast-offs (Smalling, Lukaku, Darmian, Matic, Lookman) do pretty well in Serie A when their Premier League careers fizzled out.
Amrabat will be fine when he goes back, because both the ceiling and floor of quality in the league is lower than it is here.

Two main things we've got to sort out before we're going to get any change, both to the improvement in play and the consistency. One is a strong, pacy central midfielder who can hold a ball up, to go at the side of Mainoo. The weakness in central midfield this year has led to a consistent lack of control in midfield causing wide open spaces, too many shots on our goal and not enough counter attacks in the final third, resulting in a poor supply to the front men and a crap goal tally. Burnley strolling through midfield today only highlighted the problem further.
Secondly it's criminal that a club of our standing has only got a 21 year old as an out and out front option. So we need to sign a proven centre forward to go at the side of Rasmus, which will also give us more depth in that position. I'm not saying there aren't other problems, but for me if I could buy two players this summer, then those positions would be my priority. We desperately need to start controlling games in the middle of the park.

Our current centre back partnership is not first choice. Garnacho is still young, no excuse for Anthony. We know Scott can’t close a game out but TH did try and sell him last season. I am hopeful for the FA Cup final.

    @KingsleyM21 Месяц назад

In my opinion, success in professional football, is not just a product of individual talent but also the symbol of a shared mentality and effort. Player attitude and fitness are so, so important.
Player attitude is a cornerstone of any successful football team. For example, Marcus Rashford an academy product, has shown moments of brilliance on the pitch. But, things like going to a party after a massive loss in the Derby can have noxious effects on team morale. Actions like that suggest a lack of commitment to the team's ethos and a disconnect from the passion and loyalty of us fans. I believe that maintaining a professional demeanour, especially in rough times, is essential for team solidarity and public perception. (I’m basically trying to say we’re a laughing stock to other clubs)
Fitness is also a non-negotiable. A player like Shaw, who no doubt has the ability, is always out injured. It's difficult to justify a significant financial investment in a player who isn't consistently available for selection. A squad spot taken by an injury-prone player could be given to someone more dependable (summer transfer window?), which I’m sure you’d all agree is crucial for the team's strategic planning and competitive readiness.
Investing in young talent is investing in the future of our club. A player like Rasmus Højlund might not have had an amazing 1st season, but he’s only 21 and embodies the potential and ambition that we should value. Despite his youth, he shows a readiness to grow and a hunger for success. Just look at how he celebrated the winning goal against Coventry. Yes that game was terrible, but it was still the winning penalty that got us to the FA Cup final. Those players should’ve been celebrating with him. Yet they left him alone with the fans. With the right support, including a strong midfield to give him better service, Højlund and other young players could become the foundation for United’s sustained success.
To sum it up, the structure of a squad requires a balance of skill, attitude, and fitness. Players who show a careless attitude or are continually unavailable due to fitness issues can undermine team unity and success. For a club like Manchester United to regain our status as a powerhouse in the game we all love, we need a culture of professionalism and resilience. Which in the current moment, we really don’t have.

  • @SC07TK2
    @SC07TK2 Месяц назад

I think the most obvious mitigating circumstance is the squad depth being stretched beyond breaking point for the majority of the season, forcing Ten Hag to constantly either play someone out of position or have basically the exact same team that has underperformed for months, running them into the ground... the season after reaching 2 domestic cup finals in a World Cup year.
However, the fact that the team are so incredibly open and generous towards the opposition when it comes to allowing shots on goal, counter attacks & it feels like always inviting pressure which leads to conceding late penalties (questionable, inconsistent decisions, but almost always decisive) coupled with being wasteful in attack and having Hojlund starved of any service whatsoever, then expecting him to do a bunch of closing down but not having another fit striker at the club, means he just gets knackered and then frustrated when being subbed. Likewise, the rest of our attacking options, always shaking their heads when taken off, but realistically: Rashford, Garnacho, Antony & Amad are the only positions that Ten Hag has to make choices on who to start because everywhere else is practically "Who is currently fit? You're starting then!"
Since Champions League qualification is realistically in the bin, Europa/Conference League depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final and remaining ahead of Newcastle in the league... it almost feels like we should just play the fringe & academy lads in the Palace & Brighton games so that the first team players can get a rest for the games against Arsenal, Newcastle & City.
The amount of chaos in both boxes where we look on edge & vulnerable when defending corners/free-kicks while also being almost toothless when attacking them (until Maguire in the semi-final) Sometimes it genuinely feels like we're more likely to score from an opposition goal kick than being awarded a corner or free-kick in a dangerous position. Whoever the set-piece coach is, either gets ignored or is bad at his job. Lack of cohesion can partly be down to not having a settled XI, but after 2 years, pattern of play or not, we're still so reliant on opposition mistakes or moments of individual magic which is why nobody knows what to expect results-wise. Performances are easy to predict: Disappointing, frustrating, slow build up, sloppy passing, absent minded marking, wasteful shooting or getting fouled but ref turning a blind-eye.
If the INEOS hive mind are building a structure with a more defined roadmap to success, then it won't happen overnight, but steps have to be taken to move in the right direction. As things currently stand, replacing Ten Hag for the final 4 league games of the season & FA Cup Final wouldn't change anything as the incoming manager would still have the exact same squad to choose from. But even if we were improving on last year, it still wouldn't hurt to have a back-up plan in place for which coach fits the identity that they're looking at to take the club forward where everyone is pulling in the exact same direction.
This current squad still contains players signed by Louis (Shaw, Martial), Jose (Lindelof, Dalot), Ole (Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Fernandes, Amad, Varane) but all three coaches have different characteristics they were looking for that don't necessarily fit either Erik's style or the INEOS long-term vision. It'd be incredibly refreshing to see how United go about their business in the summer... not just bringing in a big marquee signing or massively overpaying in the market. Also, wouldn't it be amazing if we avoided a drawn out summer transfer saga? Bring back the days of just unveiling 4-5 signings together with little-to-no speculation, negotiations or rumours like when van der Gouw, Johnsen, Cruyff, Poborsky & Solskjaer. No fuss, just bringing in players to improve the depth, then eventually maybe become part of a reliable core.
However, we've currently been going through a period of wasting huge sums of money on players who haven't stuck around long (Di Maria, Lukaku, Sanchez) and never really seemed like they suited how United play... meaning they were "Football Manager/FIFA" glamour signings, instead of attempting to improve the team. Also, bringing in one iconic individual (Zlatan/Cristiano) is fine, but if that just makes their absence even more noticeable, then as Ste's said in the past "pinpoint your weakest area and raise the floor first before you worry about your ceiling"

For me this summer is about who we get rid of more than who we bring in. What happens is that every time we get a new manager we bring in a few new players and maybe we sell a couple. The issue with this is that we never get rid of all the players that we need to so they infect the new players that are coming through.
Recently I watched some of Gary Neville’s old post match interviews, Everton 4-0 under ole, a couple of the city games, and the brentford 4-0 last season. In those videos he is saying the exact same thing that we’re all saying now. A team that’s very open and has very little structure to it. What’s worrying is that these issues are happening under different managers.
One of my biggest arguments for ten hag was that I wanted to see him under a proper structure, but atm it doesn’t even look like the complete structure will be in place by the time his contracts up. I think just ride it out for another season and let the new structure make a decision that they can think out thoroughly. Plus the manager market will be completely different and there’s nobody out there right now that makes me feel disappointed if we don’t get them.
