    Thanks for the spotlight shack. Glad you have been having fun with the build.
    To clarify the tech system, 1 the techs are cheaper, allowing the player to start their research efforts faster. It slows down the teching process for both player and AI, this will slow down the amount of high tech doom fleets the AI creates by week 60, giving the player more time to breathe. You can also tech into what counters your enemy cheaper, it enhances your ability to more effectively fight back. It also unlocks a lot of under the hood potential for us to build other systems too. So stay tuned

      Are we able to see the same sort of overhaul say instead of a tech upgrade its the black market to wear you purchase these upgrades and ships.

      @@lokilaufey1189 there is an overhaul planned for them. This update we are slowly introducing the tech system. Eventuality everyone including minor factions will get tech

    I still think it would be really cool if the Zan Consortium was reworked into the Rebellion, and the "corruption" mechanic was turned into an "influence" mechanic, and that's how you gain territory and ships as the Rebellion, since it doesn't really make sense for the Rebel Alliance to have an actual foot hold on so many planets until it turns into the New Republic.

    I think this new tech progression is fine (certainly make sense for Empire, but I also don't have any major complaints on it being the same for rebels). However I will say I'm still sad that no mod has really taken the original method for Rebels which was stealing technology. I think that was a fun system and did feel very Rebel esq. But what's more, I think it would be cool if the rebels had more incentive to hold certain planets, and maybe have more tech options opened up from controlling planets instead of standard research. Hold Mon Cala, get Mon Cala ships, sullust for sullustan ships, etc.

    Yeah I think the specific research stations for the Empire makes a ton of sense; like specialised military R&D skunkworks in secluded systems is super thematic, plus the Empire's economy is stronger in the early game. But for the Rebels... I don't know. Early game money is hard, and thematically, they use what they can get, steal X, refit Y, repurpose Z. I'm not sure if specialised R&D facilities makes sense whilst they're still in the Rebel phase (Though for the New Republic and their advanced ships it'd make perfect sense - the transition from adhoc forces to a dedicated, advanced military). I'll have to play with it when it comes out, but I'm on the fence for now.

    The update looks great! I agree about the Rebel research, I think it'd make more sense to break it up further and have the flavor text be that you're sending teams to steal blueprints or recruit design engineers where appropriate. Still have that choice and that way the rebel ships could be rebalanced so that there isn't one best fit but instead it encourages having a diverse fleet with units that play off each other or benefit certain play styles.
    Also between the long-probe Y-Wing variant, the shipyard model, and the tractor beam sound effect, I think someone from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers is in a _lot_ of trouble. And I love it, great homage that doesn't detract from the experience.

      I suppose we're hitting hard limits of what even modding will be able to do with this game engine, which would necessitate a sequel, so all the appropriate mechanics can be modeled in-game as far as guerella operations, aquisitions, and development goes.
      ...A sequel? Like that'll ever happen.

    I feel like a lot of the issues with research come from the Rebels and Empire using fundamentally the same economy/production when that only really makes sense for the Empire. I wonder if it would be better to make Rebel research and production minimal and put a greater focus on spies, rabble-rousers and the rag-tag nature of the rebellion.
    Sure you have your manufacturing core worlds - Mon Cal makes capital ships, etc. but most of your ships will come from other sources in the early game. Sources like:
    - Agents on Imperial Shipyard planets have a chance each week to produce stolen Imperial ships (Nebulon Bs, Quasars, etc.).
    - Agents on non-core Imperial planets/Black Sun planets (planets without a Governor's Palace) have a chance each week to produce fresh recruits in unaligned ships (Dreadnaughts, CR90s, Hammerheads, etc.).
    - Maintaining a border with Imperial Shipyards has a chance each week for them to sneak you some ships.
    - Taking a Governor's Palace should spawn allied fleets/armies on the planets in that sector (size modified by allied/hostile agents and corruption on the planet) over the following week, possibly letting you collapse entire Imperial sectors and bolster your fleet with one surgical strike.
    Proper ship manufacturing should take a while to get going and require some missions to get new designs (like getting the X-Wing blueprints). Each faction should have very different industries, with Rebels relying on a constant trickle of mystery ships that probably need refitting to be useful, the Empire relying on a few vulnerable manufacturing worlds and Black Sun occasionally getting big booms of mercenary recruitment but generally only being able to recruit bad ships (though I think without Total War-style morale and treachery, the Black Sun is always going to feel a little off).
    I realise that this would be a ton of work for a thematic gameplay style that a lot of people wouldn't like though.

    I just started playing AOtR, and even as the Imperials I'm struggling to keep my economy up and have enough credits to spend on everything (in a small campaign no less). As it is right now, I'm not sure I'd enjoy a tiered system such as this one. That being said, I'm happy to see an update come through regardless of whether I like it or not. :)

    This should be interesting. oh that's cool that the under construction star destroyer has odd mix of turrets, maybe they don't have the turret that would normally go there or there's some backstory of the ship losing one or something, and it just replaced the turret with the first thing they had the option too.. or also the captain might be an oddball and just want an odd turret mix for some reason.

    To answer the tech question:
    I do not think a Capital Rush is intended, for the reasons you showed.
    If this was a conventional tech tree, Fighters 1 would be a T1 Technology, while Capital 1 would propably a Tier 3 technology.
    However you also might not have realized that your income is 3600. So that is 1 Week for the tech, 2 for the shipyard. And you could still produce some smaler ships for conquering on the side.

    I think the idea of being able to make nuanced decisions on your military doctrine is interesting and fits with the time period. Empire adopting the Tarkin Doctrine and rebels adopting hit and run tactics with advanced fighters--it would be cool to have a direct hand in changing those approaches to warfare for each faction.
    I'm curious how the AI will function with the change. Maybe the AI empire focuses on upgrading their cruisers and it would make your choice of high tech fighters a bit more pointless.

    On Space Engineers I left the Ice Planet (not Europa) and went to the Earth planet, and when I was entering with my ship I found that I didn;'t have enough downward thrust when I crashed into the planet ending a real life four day trip.

    I started an awaking of the new republic. As the Hutt cartel.
    Focusing on gathering the same units and forces similar to seen in the book of boba fett.
    I have most of my mains over at tatooine. So begins my playthrough of Bob the bounty hunter not bobba but Bob. He's just after tuna.... may try some calamari too ;)

    For the Rebellion in AotR, you have so few credits that the new style of research does not make sense to me. For the Empire? Yeah. It makes sense.
    I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think that the vanilla game system for Rebellion tech would work better than a tiered, “focused” kind of system.

      I think that's true, but I *like* that having so few credits your research lags as Rebels. Rebels are a small, desparate group, scrounging up what they can. That's how they're meant to be. But most of my gamnes, I grab the two Tabanna locations near Hoth and set one up at Yavinn with a defence fleet, and then turtle until I can just *buy* a BUNCH of capital ships.

      It can really help to find a high base credit income world that can also have a manufacturing base on it, build it, then stack Mon Mothma, Leia and Lando on there to boost it even higher. I haven't played for a few months, but last time I did their bonuses stacked. Same thing works with two of the Empire's starter moffs whose names I forget (Not the guy on Kuat, the chubby one and the guy down near Sullust).

    Maybe instead of Small, Medium and Large research, maybe they could do what Sins of the Prophets do and have it split into 2 or three fleet doctrines.
    For Example, do you want fast, hit and run tactics with advanced fighter and a focus on Medium craft, alongside mobile carriers and light cruisers? Choose this research
    Or do you want heavy cruisers and advanced battleships as a powerful Frontline fighting force for a drawn out slugfest? Choose this research.

    I'd like an 'era' system of tech levels. Where as you advance you lose the ability to build older equipment, like the Clone Wars tech is outdated by mid Civil War, and then New Republic stuff replaces the older tech. I think it would add interesting trade offs as to how to time your upgrades. Ultimately the sequel game would be great with one playthrough from Old to New Republic eras.

      We have that to an extent, the tech levels are tech within the era. When you change to play as the NR some older units are no longer available

    I'm just noticing the pathway to Hoth thru Mustafar- wasn't Hoth always "locked" behind Allyuen? See, for me, that's a big change- because Allyuen isn't the early fortress world...

    I would love to see season 5 of aotr as rebels and please don't lose any single hero(at least don't lose very important and minor heroes if you are in a situation where the hero is going to die then retreat instead of staying, survival is the key). And keep an eye on every unit. Also I am ur big fan.

    Id like to see more dynamic space battles. Sure the Nebs and asteroids add to this making that type battle interesting, But it is always line battle. Muskets and alpha strike. If only we had something that made it so you are wanting to move your ships in flanking. Not just line vs line.

    Sooo basically they took the idea of having ground base militias loyal to a specific faction depending on the planet and applied it to space along with new capturable things to aid in battles kinda like the abandon factories on the ground

    makes me wish for a EAWx style of resource management, needing certain planets to... acquire, the tech for the rebellion (they would only need to hold the planet for a short period to recover the tech, new mission possibility?), for example the rebellion tech system could be improved by doing some tech theft for the more crucial parts of the tech tree, while the research is an opportunity to get the more advanced warships. maybe also having to find more parts or other resources might be another opportunity to cause chaos in the empire or the black sun by stealing theirs.

    I think that the rebels should for the first 2 tech levels maybe have to do missions with heroes to gather support planets or acquire blueprints and engineers, and maybe even steal enemy ships at times, by sending a force to maybe capture a ship and steal it from the empire, so you could steal their ships by fighting a battle, like they could make a custom map for fighting inside ships with a boarding party that can only be made up of infantry, they could even make and infiltration team unit that is too small for actual ground combat but for boarding actions they work well with the amount of troops the enemy will have there, and you need to capture and hold areas inside the ship, like capturing the "bridge", "hyperdrive", etc. I think it would work to making the mission interesting and could net you a good asset early on, you could end up stealing something like a Star Destroyer or even something like a victory class.
    If your research is tied to completing missions for the rebellion it would make those stolen imperial ships really important for the rebellion.

      I’ve tried some of it so far, the Mandalorians don’t seem to be all that different from the previous version. Now if you want it compared to AoTR… we’ll if AoTR is your standard don’t even bother with it. If you like the original game then it’s basically the same but with tweaks and research have a story, you also got some interesting ships and heroes.

      I think it has lots of potential, but I think it may have been released as a beta waaay to early. I don’t think the population of the base units have been adjusted. The model work is amazing tho. But sometimes early access is too early.

    I don't like research for anything other than the super weapons/ships. The economy is so tight at the beginning that you can barely afford capitol shipyards as it is.

    I just started a rebel campaign a few days ago and idk the tech tree makes sense for the empire but for the rebels It just means more credits being wasted I'm on week 100 and only recently got my economy in order

    I never got a chance to finish any campaign I started with this mod. There would always come a point where I would try to create a new save, only for it to sit there doing nothing for an hour+ before it would complete the save. When I'm stuck on a save screen for an hour or more on a game that requires frequent saving, I consider it broken. Never could figure out why it did that.

    I play the mod and I belive one side effect of the first change with the tech is to slow down the AI, never fails when I play the AI goes straight for tech three before I’m secure enough to grab tech one, in my opinion it might aslo slow down the AI and give the player a chance to keep up with it…..but it’s my opinion

    That Star Destoryer is, in fact, not the same on both sides. One side has the first two guns, the other the rear two. I guess they are still installing the missing turrets.

    I believe this gives another choice to the player because (correct me if I am wrong) the old tech system wasnt as expensive as all three of the new tech levels combined are. This in theory would make things more complicated when choosing what type of fleet doctrine you’ll use. Example- if I am the rebels up against the empire, I see they’re rushing Heavy capitol ships so I go light and spam the hell out of it.
    This system looks to be very important in the first quarter of the game before you have a lot of credits.

      Trying to remember.. the old tech 1 was around 20k I think. So this is slightly more expensive and fairly sure takes longer to research.

    I started watching your AotR campaign with all the raids a few years ago and haven't stopped since.
    Last time you tried this mod, this Black Sun ruined it - but those new space features sound really exciting.

    If the new research changes the fact that i HAVE to get the Death Star to get Tier 3 Star Destroyers then i like it for the Empire. I agree though that for the Rebels....feels weird. Cant wait to try it out though

    Not a fan of how it is currently. If rather if each research level came with a theme (not a single ship group). You can research a light, mixed, or heavy theme. Once chosen, the other choices of that level are removed forcing you to decide on a combat style

    Damn. Once this comes out, i might actually abandon my TR campaign. Looks good. Also, you said, that you might get sandwiched by pirates and the enemy, but if you play it good, you might be able to use them to your advantage. Idk if they are announced like in TR tho. I assume they arent.

    I think the new research system allows for more varied repeat playthroughs, as you can more effectively differentiate your playthroughs based on what tech you decide to develop.

    In the base game you could send Threepio and R2 off to steal tech from the Empire. I have no idea why the devs of this mod don't use that for rebel tech advances. It would be way more thematic than just researching it.

    Not a fan of the change, its like Shack said, it just adds another layer for no reason. This is what turned me off of thrawns revenge, overcomplicating the mechanics doesn't necessarily make it tactical

    The Tech levels should be dropped and everything should be cheaper and just be based on how much it costs and what level ship yard you have with the different races getting there ships built over there planets !!!

    Not a big fan of rebels so I usually skip these mods, but damn they really had the balls to move the minimap to the right?
    Now I'm longing for a Dune 2000 vertical style build menu.

      @@devangsingh1689 it wasn't the ai, their ships are stupid good. Playing as BS felt more powerful than the empire and Rebels combined.

      @@HeadCannonPrime the imps and rebels got better ships the BS is weaker than rebs and imps in every way once the other factions tech up heck they can be beaten even at tech 0 by imps and if ur careful u can push them back with rebel starting forces

      Currently the BS AI is fine and the player can handle them as both factions pretty easily, the units of the faction was rebalanced so the player playing the faction can hold his own against the AI which is nice. Don't worry the player can still beat the BS when playing against it.

    I don't like the tech change at all. It makes it LESS customizable. I have to use more orbital slots to contain them. I have to use more credits to build all of them. I have to invest in defending more planets and stations. It makes the already throttled economy (at least as rebels) even more strained. Yucky change

    I think if their was a significantly shorter research time it would make a huge difference however from the look at your build that doesn't seem to be the case

    Oh yes a "media build." Where things are balanced decently and the game is a fun challenge on Hard.
    And then the release is imbalanced nonsense where 3 minutes in to a Hard (not Expert) GC the Empire already is shoving a fleet of ISDs with Vader and 2 other random heroes down your throat followed by 8 ground units while you're still organizing your junk.
