    Thank you for posting this video!!! As one of maybe 2 Samoan families in the Central, I always felt privileged to be immersed in so much culture. To have the seeds of decolonization planted and nurtured from the beautiful people of this community. My family moved to the CD in 1990 right off of 17th & Yesler I didn't pop it on the U too much as that was a different world from Yesler, but I always respected it. Even now, EUSH was and currently is the last stronghold of the District. I sent this video to Black Jack and he was pumped to see all his folks from the past. Shout out to all the spots I remember growing up in the CD.
    Hairtech, Nations, Sam's Quickie, Afro Mini Mart, BVL's, Langston Hughes, CAYA, Rotary, Garfield Late Night, Macks CD and Tapes, Beverly's Tape Store, Richlens, Ms. Hellens, Sammies, Thompsons Point Of View, Dino's, Rogers Thriftway, The ROPE program, JUN, CDF, OSC, MOA, Bryant Manor, Yesler Terrace, Black Arts Northwest (Washington Hall), and many more, that I just can't remember right now...

That's the CD I remembered. 21st and Union, just down the hill was the famous Philly's Best in a ran down hole in the wall shack. Use to get the Philly cheese steak fries at 2:30 am after hitting up the OZ, Iguana Cantina, and Sharkey's. CD is now The Cental District, not The Colored District like back then.

    @ John Funches aka Frostmaster Chill: I am 100% correct. Art did that in the 1990s not in the early 1980s when they (BGDs) first came to Seattle. Seattle's entire street violence & drug scene changed after the crips/bloods arrived in the mid 1980s. If you read my post with full comprehension you would see that I said before the crips/bloods arrived in Seattle. No one was moving crack on street corners before the crips/bloods came to Seattle not even Big Al, Easy Ed, Nick Caldwell, Tate, etc. And I ain't even gonna speak on Skeee killing Breeze at the Madison Plaza over a girl in the late 1980s which basically started the whole CD vs Southend beef that is ongoing to this very day. I was everywhere from the CD to Columbia City to South Shore to High Point with no issues.

    • @johnfunches8153
      @johnfunches8153 Год назад +1

      Art did what? I didn’t know Art in the early 80s. In the late 80s crack was starting in full sway. The CD and Southend been had beef at times just not on the level of the 90s. I do not see the post you are responding to so it must be erased for some reason.

      @@johnfunches8153
      @johnfunches8153 1 year ago @IceManLikeGervin , unfortunately, you are incorrect, but I see your point. The BGDs did sell dope and were involved in shootings in killings; for example, this video shows Art Nelson, a known BGD at that time in the 90s. Art was convicted in the late 90s for shooting Main in the back at a waterfront nightclub. Main, to my knowledge, was a Vegas crip who was down with USH (Union Street Hustlers). Art shot Main over Main, pressing him because Art robbed his Spokane cocaine distro. Many BGDs sold dope in the CD going all the way back to Big Al. Growth and Development was a concept that spread in the aftermath of Larry Hoover but did not come to fruition, which is similar to what happened to the Crips when certain members tried to rebrand and revise their origin.

    • @johnfunches8153
      @johnfunches8153 Год назад

      @@IceManLikeGervin I also know Main, Art, Big Al, USH are from my hood. J Snake, and Main would come over to my crib. I’d see Mike Jackson frequently around the U. Jerri’s brother was my MC as you probably know. I fought Art over Bear jumping his cousin. I stopped my friend Wes from shooting Art at KG’s studio prior to Art shooting Main. I was locked up when Man was hit at the Pier. Before that Main almost died from trying to save a car drowning at the waterfront. I think you saying crack selling started in the 90s which I think is wrong, but that has been a grip ago in Seattle. Of course the Cali connection supplied the dope, but I also do not know if the gangs were solely responsible for it. Do you have evidence it was the Crips and Bloods who started selling crack in the CD?

    The gang culture was active in the 90’s. I remember the city commanded all the gangs to cease and desist or they were sending in swat to arrest everyone. Then you had the CD and Southend beef. Many lives were lost due to violence. I went out to 28th and Jackson to pray with the gangs. They had lost so many youth to the violence, children dying.

      I went to school on beacon hill, and CD. It was a different time. I basically fought my way through school, didn’t learn much other then how to survive. So many bad incidents, the principal was black, mr newton, I was accused of being racists, which I was not. Those were hard times. This boy Tyson tried to punk me in class so I punched him in his mouth. The next day I got beat up by the gang leader Jerome. After that day the gang left me alone.they actually tried to recruit me. I wasn’t interested. The gang life didn’t take over my life until I was in 8th grade. Another story
