I remember being on the bus for a Sunday school field trip with my friends, and we were all trying to be the final boss of sonic rush. Always running out of rings, I was so proud of myself when I could consistently beat it.
I'm happy to say that I got through almost all of Sonic's history without much issue until... 06... The crisis city mach speed section made me cry as a kid because I just kept getting flung off the road and into the abyss over and over and over again. It happened when the camera went from behind Sonic to in front of him. Sonic would just veer off and run off the road. It wasn't until 2 days later and multiple attempts until I figured it out. I was holding up during the mach speed section when Sonic was automatically going forward anyway. The camera change interpreted that as Sonic turning and well... Seriously... the relief and anger at finding it out and beating that stage with ease afterwards...
I literally had no idea that you could Spindash so I always got stuck in angel island because of that rock wall before the tunnel. I also didn't know Tails could fly when you played as him because I never pressed the jump button more than once. There was one time I accidentally hit jump twice and he flew. I didn't realize that's what I did so I was desperately trying to figure out how to fly again 💀
@@zachgamemaster3329 slush is not a compliment lol Eggman Land should have been at least 3 acts. That way, its gimmick comes into play, and you still play 2 full length stages per act yeah, but it feels less like a war of attrition, but as if endurance is the main skill eggmanland wants to teach.
Even with the benefit of having the level select cheat for Sonic 1 & 2 (and Super Sonic for 2), I still struggled on certain zones. The usual suspects like Marble, Labyrinth, Scrap Brain, Chemical Plant and Death Egg, but also Hill Top and Wing Fortress. Sonic 3's infamous barrel of doom halted my progress until I loaned it to a friend. During that time, I rented Sonic & Knuckles and enjoyed what was on offer. When I got Sonic 3 back, I had to wait until Christmas to get the full S3K experience, and what a worthwhile wait that turned out to be. Sonic Advance's special stages were tricky. I even resorted to using a cheat device to get that last emerald. I eventually managed Sonic Advance 2's special stages thanks to the convenient placement of the pause button on the original DS. My main struggle with Sonic Adventure was in trying to raise Chao without accidentally attacking them. Knuckles' section of the last story in SA2 is a real pain without the air necklace, and Sonic Heroes' special stages are hopeless without cheats. As for Pinball Party, I can remember completing it when I first bought it.
I was stuck at metal harbor when I was a kid. When you get the first section with the GUN beetles over the water I was button mashing homing attack. If you button mash homing attack at this section you’ll miss and die. I didn’t know you have to time the homing attacks so that it properly locks in with the enemies
for the longest time in like second grade i struggled with Chaos 4. i was terrified thinking that fighting on a lake meant it could attack me from anywhere, turns out it was bcs u slowly sinking n need to go for the lily pads. i remember unlocking only sonic n tails and they just stuck there fighting chaos 4, i was too afraid. eventually i beat it with tails knowing he could fly but it still felt tense.
I'll mention some of the major struggles I've had with Sonic games: Sonic Riders Zero Gravity - I beat almost all Heroes & Babylon story without knowing how to jump, And without knowing how to do the gravitational jump, I learned both of these things with mere experience and never touched the tutorial. This one was from several years ago. Big's Story - Sonic Adventure: Literally took me over a year to complete his story and play the Super Sonic story at last; Then 2 years later I finished the game for the first time, A friend taught me how to play with Big, And now I can finish his story under 20 minutes. Sonic & The Secret Rings - The whole game, Finished it around 2 years ago with no interruptions. Sonic & The Black Knight - Beating Merlina with perfect blows only: I did accomplish this as a kid but I still haven't beat her PROPERLY with this method. Sonic Forces - Imperial Tower: Took me 146 attempts due lag. Sonic Generations - "Don't touch this": Probably the least frustrating out of everything else, Attempted it and accomplished it in 3 hours.
sonic levels i struggled with as a kid. labyrinth zone in sonic 1.....the boss, just the boss, the rest of the level was fine it was the boss that killed me, every time. like most kids i struggled with chemical plant. and sandopolis in sonic and knuckles, the ghosts, the boss, all of it in sonic 3d blast, i never made it past panic puppet zone, i STILL can't, it just kicks my ass. in sonic spinball, I struggled with the second level whatever it's called, eventually i made it past, only to get stuck in the third level. in sonic adventure 2, cannons core, knuckles section, because i never got the air necklace as a kid....i worked for SO long but eventually made it through without the air necklace. in sonic riders, it was sky road, i just COULDN'T FOR MONTHS get first place there. shadow the hedgehog, the level, "the doom" those bomb finding missions on a timer WHOO it was hard, and took a long time to do. I don't remember any other struggles I had as a kid, unleashed, black knight, and colors never gave me any trouble.

True story, the first time I played S3&K was on the Sonic Classic Collection for the DS. I'm pretty sure I figured out those Mushroom Hill vines immediately. And I don't think Marble Zone is that bad, Labyrinth is way worse. I haven't played 3D Blast. I never struggled with Pumpkin Hill. Haven't played Riders either. Never struggled with Eternal Engine either. I think SA2 was a breeze for me. Also never played Battle or Pinball Party. Pinball is pretty easy for me though. You forgot to mention one thing though, Unleashed Eggmanland. But I don't really struggle with that anymore.
@@ThatSonicGamer At first I got stuck on Marble Zone then figured out I was going the wrong way. Same as a kid, I got stuck in the Illusion Forest in Super Mario World. But quickly realized that maybe I need to find a secret exit. One of my greatest gamer moments as a kid

Basically any 2nd zone from the classic era of sonic games. Barely could get past any of those, and The third zones were basically impossible for me. Also the find the chao missions in sa2
I remember playing Sonic 3 as a kid, I would actually get stuck at the giant tree stump in Angel Island 1 not knowing I just need to run fast enough to get across which I felt was impossible with Sonic so I would climb or fly up to the top with Knuckles or Tails it was so embarrassing
For me the biggest struggle was beating the second boss on Sonic 2 for the master system, I had to get my dad to try and help me and even he couldn’t do it
Dead Line from Sonic Rush was hell for kid me. First of all, i had never used the airkick/burst in the entire game, so i couldnt get past the beginning of the level for a while. But even then, the rockets screwed me over HARD. I died so often. General final level difficulty made it hell, and do not get me STARTED on special stage 7. Also, Black Knight had 2. 2 challenges that it took me until last year to beat. Black Knight 2 and that one "don't touch the floor" challenge in molten mine.
I think for me the hardest parts in sonic games are sonic 1 labyrinth boss, sonic 2 finale boss and wing fortress, sandopolis act 2, the shadow solo biolizard fight in sa2, I was stuck on giganto in frontiers cuz I was stupid and didn’t realise you could get more than 100 rings and also eggman land and other obvious hard stuff

Eggmanland has killed way to many controllers, now I can beat it in 12 minutes
