I’ve been looking for videos like yours for soo long. Thanks for making all these repair videos. They are great!!!
No problem! Glad you enjoyed :)
1982 g20. I'm sitting here now with the knowledge I need for the job. Thanks
I have a 1989 van and personally, I have one panel made of carpet and backing and then it's bare metal. This was very helpful and is much appreciated. New subscriber! keep uploading!
Glad it helped.
Wonderful video, very easy to understand & follow ...was dreading doing this & had my door torn apart, but didn't know what to do next. Thank you so much 🙂
Glad I watched this I' be got a 95 G20 van with both windows need replacing. I've only did this once before on a 2000 dodge pick up. It's a lot easier than the Chevy. Appreciate your video. Hope to see more of them.
Thanks so much! Glad you found the video helpful :) Love the G20s!!!! We have three of them right now. They just go and go.
Thank you very much. It was a pain in the ass, to get this thing out this way.
But I just done it, opened the motor, cleaned it with fresh fluid and it works like new again. The old grease was like beton ;-)
He's so calm and he is very good at going step by step. Great video!
Thanks so much for your kind words :)
This beats paying a mechanic! An easy DIY job that anyone is capable of completing with a few tools.
Perfectly honest with you I didn't need to know how to replace the window motor yet but I've got to fix my door latch and I couldn't figure out how to get my door handle off so thank you
I'm glad you got something out of the video ☺
Thank you for this video. At long last, we have 2/60 A/C.
Lol. Welcome the the world of luxury my friend! It took us a few months of being tortured in the hot box before getting motivated to do something about it lol.
I've got a 1992 GMC Vandura. I think this guide will apply to me. You definitely have given me confidence that I can do it. Great video. Like, for real. Much appreciated.
No problem. Thanks! Yep, it should be a similar set up if not exactly the same for your Vandura.
@@RoadTripUSA oh, it certainly helped more than a little. Much much appreciated. So nice to see that window go up and down again.
@@ColtinCalloway It is very nice. Summer time here we come lol
I too have a 1992 GMC Vandura. I was able to find all of the factory shop manuals, to include the manual with all of the electrical schematics. If you need any reference help let me know.
Keep it up! You are teaching me everything I know about these vans! I have a 95 GMC Vandura. These vans are amazing!
Awesome! I love these vans to. Happy to help.
I love these vans as well. Grandparents had one and I've been in love every since! I'm in the process of restoring mine!
Awesome job, it will definitely help me fix my moms van. So, keep up the great work. I will definitely subscribe and I hope that you have more videos on the G20. Ok, well I hope that nothing goes wrong with your van, but, if it does can you please make another video.
Thank you again from a retired Veteran.
I will try get some more videos out. Thanks
great video mate, very handy and useful. thank you for spending time on this
I appreciate you taking the time to comment. So glad you found it useful!!
very helpful. Thank You.
No problem, glad it helped.
thanks for your video it helped me a lot
No worries :) Happy it was helpful!
I'm getting a couple of motors off amazon in a few days. I'm tired of paying a mechanic for everything. This video is better than the others I've seen for my 93 vandura. My door handle will be easier because I'm using a vice grip after it stripped out hehe.
Great! I'm glad the video helped you. No need to pay a mechanic for simple fixes like this. Thanks.
You're a legend. Took a couple hours front to back and it was a pain in the ass the thread those bolts back into the new motor and to get the door trim aligned properly but i'm stoked. I remember i had asked a mechanic how much to fix mine one day in the past and he said something like $450. The new motor was 45 bucks and i did it all myself. Proppppper.
Yeeeewww that's awesome man. Glad you got it sorted!
Thanks man
Had my 91 apart but couldnt get the old motor out. With your video i realized it was just tight in place. Got it out, had to reuse plate, new one was bolt in and not threaded. Got it all done. Mine is white with small striping, a jayco conversion. Its almost the same looking as yours. I need to do pass side now as motor runs but tracking is bad.
Thanks again.
South florida.
I'm glad you got it sorted! You'll definitely need those windows down in South Florida lol
Nice job!
Thanks
I watch these type videos all the time. Yours was great. Very clear and made my day much easier. I hope you continue to make these type of videos. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the feedback! :)
Yeah! Great video! I've got a 91 G20 so the layout is a little different, but I think I can manage it wit this video.
It might be slightly different in terms of the panels to get to the lift motor but the motor itself will be the same and should be mounted the same. Same part 79 through 95 G20's.
@@RoadTripUSA Yes it was! Your video helped tremendously! I did end up just cutting into the door frame to access the screws.
I did put a new bracket on the motor that came with the motor.
Thanks! 👍
Thanks for watching!
Thanks,i was looking for this video, i have a g20 1994 convention van and i know i will need youre help soon ok, thanks..my name is Miguel..
Awesome! Reach out if you have any question. I'd be happy to help.
I got a 94 G20 to my window fail in the door. Driving side so I need to replace window. And the passager said need motor. This video very helpful.
Wish this video was around couple yrs ago , ive replaced mine like 3 times now . Luckily i did get a little advice before i did it the first time . Guess these motors are a weak spot on these yr trucks an vans . Anyways great video .
Thanks, glad you figured it out! It seems that new parts aren't as good quality as the original.
Hello, friend, seeing your video and the explanation you give step by step, I decided to change mine, since none of the 2 worked, my van is a 1991 GMC vandura G2500, I bought the original that comes from the factory, I changed the one from the passenger first and before putting the cover on the door I tried that it worked, I had to put w40 on the hardware because they were stuck, my van has been stopped since 2017, even so they went up and down without problems, and when I put the cover on and everything I was surprised that the door does not work, what do you think is the problem? If you could help me I would appreciate it, since the part cost me 81 dollars and if I have to take it to a mechanic they would charge me more. Thank you and very good video
Did you mean the door won't open or the window won't open? Let me know and I will try to help. And thank you for your kind words :)
Thank you. Your video made it easy
No problem! Glad it was helpful :)
Currently working on my 93 G20 got the new bolts but the nuts are too small so it allows the motor to come right apart from the new bracket did you have to get new nuts for the bracket and motor to stay intact?
No, the ones that I have done have always fitted with the old nuts. Sometimes the after market manufacturers change things like that. Hopefully you were able to find the right sized nuts and make it work.
I have a '93 Vandura, and my window won't come back up. The motor had been replaced last year, it seems the window got stuck after an especially bumpy ride. I'm trying to open up my door to take a good look at it and I've removed all the nuts bolts and screws I can see, but it's just not budging! I don't want to force it and risk breaking something, any ideas? The door looks identical to yours.
Sorry for the late reply. Did you manage to figure it out? Maybe try spraying WD40 on the lift mechanism and see if you can get it to budge?
I got a 1990. This video works for it also. One note, drilling out the old plate is probably better than getting the one with the plate. They use a new style and there is no threads for the old screw. You have to use their new bolts to put plate back on. I think this must be done while motor is in the door??
Have they changed the plate on the new lift motor?
I've tried every way to get the bolts started but there's just no room for my hand to get them started. Any suggestion"
Loosen assembly
2 bolts
2 nuts
Push slightly inboard
Then you can get em started
Start all 3 before tighten down
Is it my imagination or does he keep referring to it as power steering? Either way, thank you! Awesome video.
Its possible haha
No
I'm struggling to get the door handle off, is there any help in using other tools?
Which door handle?
Once you pop off the covers and expose the screws it should be easy to undo them. I don't no what other tool besides a flathead screw driver you would use.
@@RoadTripUSA I actually managed to get it off, had to wiggle it and use a lot of force to pull it off. Previous owner had apparently glued the handle on instead of using the pin.
Hello. I really hope someone e answers this; what do you do if the window is already down?
You should be able to manually lift the window up and tape it so it doesn't fall. Then when you have replaced the motor you can raise the lift up to the window.
Can you convert to a old wind up kind?
Sorry for the late reply. I'm not really sure, but I don't think so. Let me know if you've managed to though.
My window is not going up or down. However. There seems to be a slight click /noise action from inside the door when I flip the switch either way. How do I check the electrical other than the fuse?
your connection might be bad go ahead and take off your the part of the door panel where your switch is and clean it up with a bit of paper or something mine had a lot of dirt in there.
@@chrisadventures1642 I changed motor on each side and windows are working 👌🏾
@@jaktheapprentice1023 Glad you got them working. I had the same issue on my other g20 van, it was the electrical harness that was dirty too and after cleaning it worked fine.
@@chrisadventures1642 I feel like this is a common issue and a much cheaper fix than a new switch or motor.
Am i supposed to grease the cog
It might come pre-greased but a little bit extra won't hurt either.
Didn’t bother trying to unscrew those bolts through that tight space. Just cut the metal around it with sheet metal shears and was able to get in there with a ratchet. Pretty stupid design
Yeah! Thanks! We got the bolts out, but forget about getting them back in! Good to know! I'll get the shears!
Yeah it's not the best design but it is possible to do it without cutting the door. Glad you got it done though.
Exactly my thoughts. I'm going to replace mine Saturday, and I will cut some metal out of the way. 😁
So the window broke and you figured you would film it?
It was not the window, but it was the power window motor (that Raises and lowers the window) that went out..
Personally, I am very thankful for all of these men and women that makes these videos. I hate paying a mechanic for something that I can do.
Thank you dude for making this video. It helps me alot to fix my mothers G20 van instead of paying a mechanic 200 dollars for labor plus whatever the part cost.
@@sidneyvanzandt2473 Thanks for that :) Yep, no need to pay a mechanic when you can easily order the parts online and much cheaper than what the mechanic will ask. Many of the fixes are so easy, people don't even realize. I'm glad I could be so useful. Let us know if there is anything else with your van you are having trouble with.
@@jims4877 Hey, I'm not really sure. It's probably the same but you're going to need to take the panel off to access the motor.
That is absolutely not the one I have I have a G 20 and there is a bracket in the way to pull that motor out from the window no way to get by it I’ve tried three different times
