Why can't this music be popular instead of rap? These people actually have talent. This is absolutely fantastic!

because people are idiots and don't appreciate musical talent

If you haven't heard any of the music from the rap musical "Hamilton," give it a listen. It's drawing huge, musically sophisticated crowds on Broadway. Composer/poets like Lynn Manuel Miranda very much have their place, and rap music is finding it's way into bluegrass. While it may not be to your taste, the people who perform it are forging new paths and drawing millions of fans.

I like it that Ronda dresses up and the guys have matching blue shirts. Classy, but not overdone. Oh, and yeah, the music is GREAT!

"The 8th of January" celebrated the momentous defeat of the British below New Orleans on January 8, 1815, 200 years ago at the conclusion of the War of 1812. --- Until the Civil War, or for about fifty years, the 8th of January was annually commemorated on the same basis as the 4th of July.

It seems that there is a lot of Irish influence on this type of music.
Sorry - I´m German, so I´m not an expert, but I like that musicianship.

The music originated in the Appalachian mountains an area largely settled by Scotch Irish folks

The tune sounds like "The Battle Of New Orleans" written by Jimmy Driftwood

Almost the same song as Johnny Horton made it famous by changing the lyrics a bit and removing the "mild expletives" (per wikipedia). This is actually more common in bluegrass than I would have guessed where some melodies have more than one song named after them, like The Girl I Left Behind/ Brighton Camp.

....and per the previous comment, those in the know will recognize this lick from the 1959 Johnny Horton hit song 'Battle of New Orleans' ....yee-haa!

Interesting.. when you start bleeding, the fingerboard sticks and the fingers slow down. Everything is increasing more difficult to play the specific notes. But nice show anyway.

As usual, good musicians thinking that playing an old fiddle tune like your ass is on fire makes it better! This is a great and tune and it wasn't meant to be butchered like this. Rhonda should have known better! If you want to hear and old tune played, look up : Boojum - "Lily of the Valley" by Okosee Fields! This is how it's supposed to be done!
