    You have made my world!!! My husband and I +3kidddos just bought a house that sits on 5 acres of land and I cant wait to start planting. Seeing your gardens have made me so happy! I cant wait til our home is bursting with so much beauty. Thanks for the inspiration as well as helping get a start with some plants I'd like to buy first. I absolutely LOVE the climbing hydrangea, so glad you showed and mentioned it in the video! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Thanks for the tour.

    So lovely and I know how much work, time and love is involved in putting it all together. Lemon coral sedum is what I've been enjoying the last couple years in pots. The Supertunia bordeaux was taken over by the Supertunia bubblegum. in my pots. Keep posting and thank you

    If you still have this large planter next to the garage can I suggest planting a hardy varigated kiwi vine. It would be beautiful and it is perennial and would climb up to the garage arbor. Don’t cut it back in the winter just give it a trim to shape it. I think you will love it.

      When I plant the plants that want more water, such as papyrus or colocasia, I leave them in their nursery pot and then plop that pot into a small bucket that I sink down into the dirt inside of the container. That way, there is a more constant water supply to them.

    Erin, you are my biggest inspiration in the garden. Your style and presentation is so easy to relate to. Your comment "there's something eating everything this year" really cracked me up. My friend and I are constantly saying "we need to know what we're dealing with"...We have found that the garden pests are just the messengers pointing to the main problems. (aphids-too much fertilizer...mildew-overhead watering..etc etc) Your containers are lovely and give me lots of future ideas. So thank you!

    Love the groupings of containers. I'm a complete garden novice in zone 7b in North Carolina. I had some containers that did really well this year. One that's done especially well is a lantana (I think Luscious Berry Blend) that got HUGE and took over an entire 24" container. It has been blooming since early June and still has new buds on it in late August. Who knew what a daily dose of water and a little fertilizer every now and again would do?? Enjoying all your videos as well as your blog. So glad I found you.

    Love all your containers Erin. Yes I plan mine too and take photos and notes as to what did well so I remember. I make a 3 tier set of pots one inside the other with just a bit of each rim showing, I add soil in each and set the next pot in. The area I put them in is shade so I use impatiens in the rims and coleus in the top. By mid summer the whole pot looks like a tower of flowers all the edges disappear. That is only one of my favourites, I have many others! Thanks for your great videos🌸🌸🌼🌼

    Love your Newfy. Odin, no less! I'm writing from Denmark, so give Odin a treat even though I subscribed long ago. I want to thank you for planting cup and saucer vine, I just planted one, along with Grandpa Ott and a pink morning glory called Raffles... up a fence post. I tied them loosely to the fence, but will add the line to guide it up. Very important tip, thank you so much. I have only one container, a large window boxy at our front door that sits on the stair railing. It has million bells (calibrochoa), a lovely perlgonia, some sweet peas I grew from seed trailing (though some insist on going up, thus I had to add a line above for them also, a greenery plant we call "spots in the air" that trails, and some alyssum snow cloth. It's an 80 cm window box... I will also say, lots of things are eating my hostas and some petunias... some work and look lovely, and some do not. Who knows why?

    Love the huge (concrete?) container that is viewef 1st in your video. Where did you find that? I love it's size AND shape too! Love BIG containers...the bigger the better! (Not for all my planters...just a few.) I have 2 very large containers at each side of entrance on my deck. And they make a big impact!
    Your color & texture/variety combinations are gorgeous! I love your creativity. The roses in the driveway pots, the Hyacinth bean climber in garage trough...alot of things I've not seen before. Very unique combos! Enjoyed this video greatlt! Thanks for sharing!🌻🌼🌸🍀🌱
    Oh...& not to forget...the Windowbox!! When I saw the verbena bonariensis in the Windowbox planting, I thought "Wow! I've NEVER seen that before!" I have verbena b. that self- seeds every year in my garden. My sister calls it the "Happy plant", because the stems look like little arms up in the air cheering, lol! But that windowbox grouping is divine---love love love that color combination!! The soft blue added with the other colors (the lime green.. a favorite!) just makes it say "Cottage Garden"! Very nice!

    I can't believe how many of the same plants are in your planters as are in mine, lol. This is my second year with growing Eucomis,and let me tell you, as the bulbs get bigger and better... the Pineapple Flowers get huge! Also they multiply so I have twice as many this year :) I love using Nicotiana in planters too...I have Nicotiana mixed colors, a mix of pure white, lavender, and pinkish, I have Nicotiana Sylvestris in my boxwood gardens, should look very regal with the dark green of the hedges, and I love the little drooping lime green bells of Nicotiana langsdorfii. I have Acidanthera (Peacock Orchid) which is budding up now, very fragrant! My large terra cotta pot of Agapanthus africanus is shooting up 9 big stalks, can't wait to see that in full bloom! I have several different succulent containers planted up, and made a succulent turtle topiary with a bamboo turtle frame I found at a thrift store. I also dig up Creeping Jenny from my garden and use it in pots, such a nice accent. I have two large pots each with a Castor Bean "Carmencita" which are getting big now that we have some heat...underplanted with the mixed Nicotiana and some Golden Anise Hyssop. I love watching your videos and getting ideas!

    If you want a drop dead gorgeous container plant, try Sun Cities Santa Cruz Sunset tuberous Begonia. I planted a few from seed inside in Jan. 2018 and put them in outside containers in May. Full sun to part shade they look amazing. I didn't try them again this year because they attracted no pollinators.

    They all look lovely! I love container gardening too.How's the container pond doing? I think the window box is my favorite. My favorite this year in my garden is an old bicycle I painted white and added baskets to the front and back and filled with pink and white impatients. My other favorite is on my porch next to my container pond, a mix of house plants and annuals.

    Where did the garage trough come from? What about the wood one with finials? Love the massive ones that are not the typical shapes.

    Love those wicker containers! And that window box is so precious! Curious, what color were you thinking of painting the pergola?

      Same color, just needed a touch-up. It needed one last year to and we didn't get it done then either! :)

    Beautiful garden. I love containers, do you overwinter all the perennial plants in your garage?

    I would love to try the allium white, the kent beauty and the red clematis. Does the kent beauty only bloom once a season? Love it in your basket, do you spray it to waterproof it?

    Help! The gorgeous lime green Creeping Jenny in a sunny container location has turned yellow, a few weeks into summer. Too sunny? (can’t change that) Need to fertilize? Can do that. Too invasive for the garden? Thank you.

      The more sun, the more yellow the leaves are. It might get used to it a bit and go more chartreuse, but it will always be a little yellower in full sun.

    A successful shade planter for me in WI was 2 pots, the larger upside down over an electrical box on a short post, and smaller pot on top of it, packed with ferns, in a bed of dwarf limelight hydrangeas.
    Now in TN with voracious deer a hydrangea is in a pot with vine and caladium which I will post on #linpdistel. I left the blooms to dry and it’s so pretty.

    Hi Erin, does your urn (shown in the beginning and end of this video) have a drainage hole? I got something that looks similar at a garage sale and it doesn't have one. I assume it was part of a fountain. I am debating with myself if I should have hubby drill a hole air if I could get around it with a layer of gravel, soil and than add plants? What do you think?

    • @TheImpatientGardener
      @TheImpatientGardener  4 года назад +1

      Claudia Rosa Yes, it does have a hole in the bottom that then goes to the base where there’s another hole. However, it’s fiberglass (or some kind of fiberglass composite) and it took a bad tumble a year ago and cracked at the neck, so now I have extra drainage there. The gravel thing won’t work, especially in an outdoor container where it rains. So you can either drill a hole (bigger is better as long as you’re drilling) or put a cheap plastic pot inside of it and plant in that, then dump out excess water when you water or it rains.

    You have Hosta out in what looks like the middle of the garden, are they more sun tolerant varieties & if so what are they? I have some really difficult sun exposure areas (shade moist if the day but the super intense hot sun for 3-4 hrs) that I’d love to add some hostas to it’s proven to be not enough sun for heat lovers and too much sun for the shade lovers. I wanna pull my hair out sometimes. Any suggestions would be great (zone 6 Utah) TIA 😊

    my Proven Winners Superbells are not doing well in pots either. do they need more sun or less, more water, than the Proven Winners petunias?
    LOVE LOVE LOVE the supertunias - they are GREAT but not so much with the superbells.

    • @TheImpatientGardener
      @TheImpatientGardener  5 лет назад

      Superbells (and all calibrachoas) like as much sun as you can give them, but they like to dry out a bit between waterings. That's why they can struggle in the ground sometimes too.

    Sumac’s are lovely but seed like crazy. I would go as far to say they are considered invasive where I am in PNW.
