  • The Urtopia Carbon E-Bike is a comfort-oriented road bike with lightweight carbon frame, fork, handlebar, and seat post. Single speed drivetrain is clean and quiet with Gates CDN belt drive. Available in two frame sizes and three color schemes. Custom dot-matrix LED display panel with voice control, fingerprint ID locking, optional smartphone app. Modest 250 watt 35nm geared hub motor is compact and quiet, paired with the bottom bracket torque sensor it performs above-average. Downtube-integrated battery pack is removable, offers decent range , refills quickly with 4 amp charger. Extra bright integrated front and rear lights are positioned well. Two side lights project turn signal arrows onto the street for even greater visibility and safety. Decent 160mm hydraulic disc brakes stop well and offer adjustable-reach levers. High-step frame is tall, and could be difficult for some to mount and stand over. No bottle cage bosses, limited attachment points for accessories like a rear rack and fenders. Voice commands didn't work well when moving. Custom stem, handlebar, and seat post might not work with aftermarket parts such as a suspension seatpost.

    I'll wait for the 28 mph version. And a normalized handle bar that wont snap when it hits the ground, from the front tire washing out on sand or ice.
    I'm definitely rooting for this company to succeed because that is an otherwise awesomely featured bike!

    Clean and desirable. Price is not in the forbidden zone and if it lasts a good 3-4 years after daily commuter use, then you probably will have come out ahead; it’s a high tech affordable premium bike with a specific target audience where the notion of keeping it for ten years is not on the checklist. Elon Musk’s Tesla E Bike will probably co-opt this bike. Great review!

    I opted for the chain drive version with the 350-Watt motor. The kickstand makes a great add-on. The additional fenders are quite effective in avoiding mud and splash. Worth Every Penny! The Heads-Up Display will give turn by turn directions. It is not necessary to watch your phone. The UI is VERY easy to understand.

    Despite its quirks, this bike is very intriguing. Carbon fiber at this price point? Pretty cool. I love the turn signals! And I think there's probably a phone mount for this somewhere that would work. The right handlebar seems to have enough space for a well-designed, adjustable mount. Thanks Court!

    What I like, is what I don't like. Carbon keeps the weight down, but if something goes wrong and you need maintenance, where do you go for help? Many of us like to upgrade parts or customize our bikes. This bike seems to have limitations for that. If you need to use this to bring home stuff from the store, maybe a backpack would be the answer.
    My brief opinions for who this bike would be for;
    If you live in an area few steep hills.
    You may need to carry your bike upstairs to your work or home.
    You're the kind of person who just want a bike to ride and don't care about upgrades.

  • @jeffpender5423
    @jeffpender5423 Год назад +1

    I like the bike but it is very difficult to get a true sense of its ability to take on hills with a significant grade of 10-15%. You didn't really offer any specifics in this regard. Can you elaborate perhaps? it seems that the torque is likely too low to climb hills of 10-15% without a ton of effort. I live in a very hilly city and this is my main concern. Thoughts?

      Yeah, I always feel like the option to add racks, fenders, and a bottle cage is nice. Riding for fun is great, but it's cool if the bike can double as a commuting platform or grocery getter. For me, the unique frame aesthetic doesn't outweigh the drop in utility.

    Thank you for a good review. I ordered the second generation Carbon One with upgraded 7 speeds and a 350w motor. I should be receiving the Carbon One this month around the 10th - 15th. Can’t wait. Had to drive 250 miles to a bike shop that had a Carbon One demo to test ride and loved it. I tested so many e-bikes and some were good and others ok. My biggest problem with so many Urban e-bikes there are too heavy and don’t go that far. During my test ride with the Carbon One had no issues with distance, wind, uphills, or comfortability. The seven gears does make a big difference when facing hills and wind. May I add the Urtopia has been amazing throughout the process before buying and afterwards. Yeah, there are times corresponding through emails I may have to wait a few days for a response, but the overall communication has been top notch. I can’t really say if they’re cons about the company or e-bike, non in my experience. Again, I am only referencing to the 2nd gen Carbon One, not the one in this video.
    FYI, Urtopia also has an another e-bike, “The Chord.” The Chord has the exact same features as the Carbon One with the exception of the carbon frame and looks. But, all is the same as the Carbon One with intelligent LCD panel, seven gears, and 350w motor. after the discount code, The Chord is only $1,399 (US). Plus, The Chord weighs less than 47lbs. and the Chord longest range is 75 miles (normal condition, body weight, and paddling assist on level one). The Chord will soon to ship in mid of May 2023.
    So, I highly recommend Urtopia Carbon One or The Chord. Lastly, Urtopia has not sponsored me in any way. This is 100% experience I had so far with the company and during my test ride with Carbon One

    Nice bike, needs options. Some people will love the simplicity, others will want: mounting points for rack, fenders, bottle cage.
    The integrated display is scary, if it breaks, how much to replace? Prefer a display not built-in to the handlebars/stem.
    Add option for more power with internal gears (I know price jumps $1k).

      Well said Steven, I agree with all of your points... and I'm not sure the voice commands really improve the experience for me. Why redesign a seat post? Is there something wrong with a regular seat post?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Год назад +1

      It seems like a design decision. I'm not an engineer, but the "pounce" or "lunge" look of the top tube that connects to the seat stays probably does not offer the same strength as a seat tube would. It limits how low the saddle could go (if their seat post would allow it), and eliminates the traditional bottle cage mounting point... although I did discover that Urtopia makes their own proprietary bottle cage that mounts to the area just below the seat tube. So, you have to spend extra to get their cage. They also make their own mudguard options. All listed here, which I did not discover before filming the review unfortunately: electricbikereview.com/forums/forum/ev-global-motors/

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

    Excellent review. Intriguing bike. The manufacturer should refine this bike by adopting all your suggestions. For me, the handlebars should be adjustable, it should have gears, should be able to mount panniers, fenders should be optional, it should come was kickstand, and the cutesy obnoxious display sounds should be able to be turned off. With these refinements I would consider purchasing this bike.

    Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.
