Thank you very much for this upload, I'm using autocad for the first time and was completly clueless to work on my future house's plan... But now I feel like I can really make that happen! Keep on the good work!
thanks so much for this! i had a look at a few other youtube videos before this one which were all a bit confusing but yours is easy to follow without being too slow or fast. Great job!
Alittle advice: Trim can be used once for many operations and only requires one click to delete a line (once you press enter to "trim all") so it can save you tons of time as compared to the "fillet" tool. great review overall.
Thank you for the very informative 3-part series on this subject! The one question that I still have looming is how to output the architectural measurements like you show in your original plans. I have tried to do so in a uniform and easy to read manner, but keep ending up with results that are either too small or jumbled to read easily. Thank you for your quick response to this question!
You are watching a video that is for people who already know the basic tools of AutoCAD. Start with my "Fundamental" playlist of videos to get the basics of drawing lines.
@foilmark1 Sure...it depends on your goal. If you just want to draft a small, simple floor plan as quickly as possible, then absolutely. If you want to learn the software that professionals use for large, complex projects, such as detailed 2D construction drawings, then you'd want to learn AutoCAD. Your choice.
I need more information to answer your question. After you type the distance, are you pressing enter/spacebar? Are you getting a message at the command line (which could indicate the units are not set to feet/inches)?
I always reading the command line, I know that I working easier, when I watch it.. Thank you very much, If i get on any problem on the videos which you recommended to me, I will write a comment.. Thank you.. :)
Could you give me the link of that video with wich I should start? I done with the first step for floor plane, but I saw that when I makeing walls, they are sometimes feat, and sometimes slim, that was strange to me....
Ok, thank you I will start with this... But I already done many videos with tools, but the settings for drawing are obviously a problem. I am teaching auto cad because of interior design work. Am i on the right way following to your videos?
Hello, I have the auto cad 2012, and when I go on the option copy, and than I upload a distance 5'8, he dont make that distance, he make a distance where I stop with my polar... What is going on?
Im studying autocad right now and we started creating an architectural floor plan using xl command grid lines before we put the walls, here u used lines. Also how can i adjust my grid lines as even though its alreasy using center in layer properties it is still showing a solid lines and not break lines.
Click on my name to go to my channel. Go to Playlists. Click on the Fundamentals playlist. The basic videos are numbered so it is obvious what order I recommend.
You can see at the top of the video that this video was AutoCAD 2011; I recorded it in late 2010. Nothing significant has changed in the software that affects the videos much, if you know how to tweak the interface settings. For example, I never use the dynamic display settings because they're annoying and not very useful.
I use Autodesk Architectural desktop and wen using the wall command you draw double lines walls with the height to the desire length measurement in one swipe then if needed you can joint or trim walls. The program you have is time consuming. I ll see wen i have time i will make a video how to draw Architectural plans, maybe some kid would like to lean how.
I have videos on "architectural desktop" too (now called AutoCAD Architecture). People who are just learning the software usually start with regular AutoCAD before advancing to AutoCAD Architecture. Thus video is aimed at beginners who need to learn this process.
Check drawing units and watch the command line to verify everything is working as expected. If so, then perhaps it's doing what it should but you have zoomed in far enough that 2'10" looks like a far distance. Sounds obvious, but I do see a lot of new users get confused by this.
necar dacanay standards units (in the US) should be inches. What makes you think it is going 'far'? This is a common misconception if you are just starting a drawing and you are zoomed in closely and your line is very short (like an inch or two). If the command line is not giving any errors and the copy command is working like it's supposed to, the problem may be your perception and not the program. Zoom out and start by drawing a line a known distance, like 5' or something....
So I have been trying to find some friends to teach me but they dont care crap at it. But you are great at it. I had no frustration.

I'm following your tutorial all now as a newbie and so far so good, you are a great teacher!!!

Bravo ! Bravo! I'm learning so much! I love this tutorial!
@Mavleop Type "units" (space/enter). Change "Decimal" to "Architectural." FYI - this is covered in the early AutoCAD Fundamental videos on my channel.

Sure. The most important thing I tell you is to read the command line as you work. It will tell you why it is not working as you expect it to.
Thanks for the tutorial, this has helped me alot.

very nice and clear tutorial. thanks a lot

@Niggs3000 great tip for everyone. Wish I had time to explain all options of every command!
do you have autocad 2013 videos? thanks for this video by the way. really helpful.
Great job!

How did you get the width of the door which is 2 inches?
Yes I pres the enter, but I did not type the distance, I need to tipe that word in the comand line?
hey mete i have a question!! i have the CAD 2010 but i dont now hot to change the mesurment for cm to inchsss!! can u help me with thatt???

watch my video on ltscale and related linetype settings
Thanks allot Jeremy!
Thank you so much, I love it
If anybody can help me -- what is 'block' and for what purpose do you use it? Thanks in advance!
Watch my video on blocks.

there are programs out there that do the same thing way, way simpler than AC, way less complicated
Sorry, I did not answered on this right, yes I am tipeing the distance, than enter, also my units are seted on the inches...
Because polar is more flexible and easier to control.
How old is your program.? What auto cad is it?

why dont you use ortho?
why is it that when i type 2'10 when copying the line... it goes far back from the drawing.. pls heeeelp
