Great video especially with the statistics 👍
I grew up partly in Madison heights on 8 mile
@B.J. Banditt yeah I'm sure that's where I grew up
@B.J. Banditt been a very very long time since I've been back there, surely it is a lot different and changed, I remember the high school was right across from the entrance to my street
@B.J. Banditt lol, man it was 1968 & 69 when I was there, went back in the late 80's and seen some old friends that lived next door and they showed me around at the changes, can only imagine what it is now, the old neighborhood didn't look all that healthy
When I was a kid it looked like the suburbs it was beautiful
I used to catch the 7 Mile up and down this street many years ago. Thank you for posting this. This city will always be in my heart.
So has Detroit, Michigan died to you?
@@christinabrown2987 It felt like it has. I remember that entire street being full of activity decades ago. Everything that I can tell you about the city is straight from the past. My relatives used to kick it with Donald Goines and can tell you about Black Bottom. I remember things that belong in a history book about the D.

Idc how bad people think detroit is. But i love my city. Detroit
Detroit is a very good city that has had some grave urban problems but that doesn’t mean that the problems cannot be solved and the city brought back to life. Detroit has one important resource that most sunbelt areas lack, fresh water.
@@r.pres.4121 detroit is definitely being restored as we speak. Downtown look completely different from 10 years ago
@@r.pres.4121 I travel and bike tour a lot, and I always miss the water here at home. Worst I've seen is Missouri, I don't ever plan on going back there, the rivers are ALL terrible there from farm runoff. The strangest thing to see in that regard was South Australia, all the inland lakes/ponds being salt water with white salt for beaches lmao
Bruh! Poorest village in Yemen is less of a dump than Detroit is... just saying!
@Beer Hog Thousands of Yemeni people have moved to Detroit lately, mostly to Hamtramck.
Always fun seeing the old neighborhoods. I sharpened my driving skills on 7 mile. The only accident in my entire life was on 7mile. I'm back exploring all of this on my harley now a days.
My 1st accident was on 7 Mile Road past Dequindre as well.
My first accident was on 7 mile and Murray Hill in 2005.
Play this at 2x speed. That’s how these roads are driven in Detroit.
LMAO
PERIODT!!!!
Definitely

Ain't lying at all 🤣🤣
I could not watch the whole video, too heartbreaking. I have such wonderful memories of living off of 7 mile. I guess I will just keep them in my heart.
Same here Joice
You passed two of my friends houses, and the hospital I was born in. Lol
We knew the music would change once we entered and left Detroit.
I enjoyed the selection of music while viewing the 7Mile Cruise🚘
Thank God...
I grew up at 7 and Kelly in 60's was a beautiful city, great memories good times. always loved the city of Detroit. to this day I am proud to say I live in suburb of Detroit, always will.
I will always love the city of Detroit it definitely helped me out big time with my StreetSmarts and everyone knows you need those anywhere you go in the city of Detroit especially along that stretch of 7 mile
What street? Used to hang out on Fordham Novara and Duchess and the late 90s
This is an interesting riding video of 7 Mile Road. I lived in Detroit briefly in the 70's and never knew 7 mile goes all the way into the next county.
Crazy isn’t it?
If this video hadn’t done so well I probably would’ve reshot the video to get better footage since I feel like the picture quality isn’t all that great in this one.
Brings back so many memories. Plus, at the 19:53 minute mark, the sign on the right that says Bob's Pizza Palace.... the best pizza in the city, hands down.
My dad would order from there all the time.
Yes it is. Hands down the best
I see a lot of comments from folks who have great memories of Detroit and still love the city. So do I. I’m from Toledo and going to Detroit was always so much fun. Sports, concerts, art, theater, you name it. Good times.
I used to live near denby high school, saw this video for the first time, couldn't believe how much it has change. I moved to California in 1975, can't bear it to see my old town go down hill.....
I’m with ya Chris
Bring back some memories when my late father would take us on trips in Michigan. From Detroit and we moved to Grosse Point. When I was born in '62
Home sweet home! I grew up on Hayes and 7 mile. I went to school right off Moross and I-94. My grandparents still live right behind Pershing. My aunts and uncles and mother all graduated from either Pershing or Osborn. We lived in the university district for a few years and the entire west side of the mile, from Livernois to Grand River was my stomping ground when I was a young bull in my late teens and early 20's. I'm going to hit the mile today just for old times sake.
Had friends on Evergreen near 7 Mile in the '90s. We'd meet up and go downtown to some clubs weekly. My memories of 7 Mile are mostly at night when it looked somewhat lively between 8pm and 2am near Southfield Fwy and the Lodge. Miss that time in my life.
You were in my old stomping grounds
love this video. brings back such memories. born & raised on 7 mile & Fairfield ( near Livernois). went to Gesu across from U of D. survived the riots, cheered the tigers comeback in 68 world series.saw the lions in the snow in tiger staduim .redwings red army at the joe. craving for buddys pizza.& Checker BBQ. praying for Detroit to come back.
Do you know Eminem? Is it close to 8 mile!?
I was just curious what 7 mile was like. I didn’t expect a full blown commentary with stats and all, nice!
Glad you liked!
Nostalgia Tours of course! Any plans to do Memphis? I’m from there and my family grew up near Orange Mound in the 50’s and 60’s but I’ve never been there myself. And having grown up in Memphis, i knew better than to ever go there as a white guy but I’m curious what it’s like lol
Not some of my best quality videos as they were some of my first, but this is my Memphis playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLkAKbwTlGHeJFjxxYQsNPWf-crEbN94F7
I lived on 7 mile for years ,let me begin .. before I left there were 3 dead bodies on the corner by my house for an entire day. They did not pick up the remains until the middle of the night .If you are of sound mind you do your shopping and get home and stay inside after dark .You will hear continuous gun shots ,screams ,loud bass that vibrates your entire house .You have to drive by the gas stations to see if it's safe to get gas .might be a shoot out or someone in a fight .Everyone is rude and no one smiles ,there is bullet proof glass at every drive thru and gas station .houses are burnt out or down . I used to carry a huge knife if I walked across the street to the corner store . Does that answer your questions .
And the drive tour hes doing is not the neighborhood's, hes taking one single road trying to be safe
A friend and I took many of drives like this. 8 mile, 9 mile, ect. They can be very interesting drives. Thank you for reminding me as I no longer live in the metro.
"very interesting" ... now THAT'S subtle !
I grew up at 7 mile and Kelly and went to Denby High School in the early 80's
I lived on linnhurst
@B.J. Banditt that’s crazy, I also lived the second house off robinwood and dequindre on Fleming .
I did not live in Detroit but 99% of my time from when I was 15 until about 20 I hung out on Fordham, Novara and Dutchess along with going down to the races on French Road and Mount Elliot and Outer Drive got arrested there at 15 for a bullshit curfew violation also picked up weed from Manning and Troester but those were the fun days when we didn’t have to worry too much about the 7 mile bloods and other gangs in that area
i went to finny, we painted that Anchor of yours a couple of times lol
What middle school did you go to?
I have explored the ruins of the Northville Psych hospital complex including the maintenance tunnels that run underneath it. Creepy as hell.
Is the Hospital still up,I would love to explore there,A Friend used to Work there but lost touch when I Moved✌
Water comes up from sewer and runs in the streets.
Ah the infamous northville tunnels! The vibe down there is mental chaos..
One thing to keep in mind: With Detroit limited in it's growth by fanning out from City Center, (Woodward/Jefferson) the expansion moves out at a rate 2x as fast as most cities that can expand in all directions. So the development out to the distance northwest suburbs may seem extensive, it is only because the city center stayed downtown and did not move out with the development. Like shells of an onion, first Grand Blvd, then Outer Dive, Then Telegraph/8Mile, Then 696/275, now US23 and I 69. The rings of the tree are twice as thick as other cities. All governed by the Detroit River on the South/
East.
Thank you for the memories ,I miss all the areas .
My dad started his auto parts manufacturing company on Nevada and Mt. Elliot, then built a factory between 7 mile and Nevada on Sherwood in 1960. I spent all my youth in the Van Dyke and 7 Mile area and even rented a house on Outer Drive and Sherwood. This drive feels different from what I remember. I recall an area that I could walk feeling safe. Of course, I had two vehicles stolen, though. The 7 mile and Mound area was known to have chop shops all over, so steeling a car close to the area meant they could get the car to the chop shop quickly.
I worked at cares gas n oil, right by there on Mt Elliot
Thank you for making this. I grew up on the east side (48224 just southeast of 48205) and even often commuted along 7 mile when I attended University of Detroit - 7 mile was one of my favorite routes to take because it was less traveled and nicer. Even though sad, it's still nice to see it again. I left the state in 2001 and am still amazed to see and hear the reports of 48205 having become the worst neighborhood in Detroit - I actually remember it once being one of the safest and perhaps THE safest neighborhood on the east side. I often walked and ran around all of 48205, day or night, with no fear - and this was as late as the mid-80s! At the time the houses were better kept than in 48224!
Until 2020 (when every major U.S. city saw in increase in crime) Detroit as a whole, including the 48205 was seeing less crime year after year. Hopefully it can get back on track.
@@PaulCotton If you haven't already done so, stay right here on RUclips and search for "48205" and watch some of the videos that come up. You will be horrified.
I hope that Detroit is on an upswing. I am aware that Detroit and it’s suburbs are trying to diversify the local economy to make it more recession proof. Detroit is a very good city that has been kicked when down but it is a tough survivor. The city will come back one way or another.
@@r.pres.4121 Time will tell!
@@PaulCotton I grew up on Alcoy between Linnhurst and Parkgrove 3 block west of Schoenner!!!!
I remember that Save way on 7 mile! We use to live on Hoyt Ave and sent to Gabriel Richard Elementary.... memories!! I'm 30 now... haha
I love my city Detroit, and i love my state MI 🙌🏽
Detroit is one of my favorite cities and it is a treasure chest of beautiful historic architecture and cityscapes.
In the late fifties and early sixties my buddies and I would take the 7 Mile bus from Van Dyke all the way to Telegraph to go to Edgewater Park. I was always in awe going through Palmer Park.
Can imagine in the old days, people cruising on these great roads. Nice
I grew up on Stansbury which is off of 7 Mile back in the 80s to see what has and has not changed is so cool
I grew up on Stansbury also in the late 60s - mid 80s between Margareta and Pickford.
@@alonzoemeryperson8660 went to Winship Elementary/Middle school were you there when Mr Burton was principal
I didn't go to Winship. I went to Ludington Middle School. My school bus pickup/drop off was in front of Winship.
@@alonzoemeryperson8660 oh okay cool 😎
My God parents lived on Vassar between Stansbury and Lesure.
For those OG basketball fans out there coming up at the 10:38 mark to the left you see Pershing High School with a smokestack. Just to name a few this school was attended by NBA stars Spencer Haywood and Steve Smith. A couple of *_Motown's Four Tops_* also went to school there.
In 1970 I took a driver's training course at Pershing and once almost ran into a fence because I was rounding a curve real fast. The instructor was yelling "brake it down! brake it down!" I'm trying to figure out what the heck does "brake it down mean?" Yeah at 16 years old I should have known that *_phrase_* but hey, I didn't.
Cool videos! You drove past the hospital I was born in and my nursery school. 🎶Memories 🎵
and you probably didn't know cuz you didn't mention this either the ebony showcase lounge was one of the first places where m&m start winning battles he got ran out of that place once before for winning 18 battles in one night

Awesome video, I used to live in Redford Township many many years ago. I also used to visit the are of 7Mile and Livernois. I love Detroit.
Thanks for a tour through Detroit... South Africa
The Livonia Mall was awesome as a kid. Those were places you could spend the day not in and outs of today.
No longer around
The elevator in Sears... scary...would stop between floors..brick wall!
I miss the dark and spooky arcade in Wonderland mall more myself. I used to ride my bike up to Livonia mall to buy zippo lighters and such during the 90's though. I snuck and got lighters from there, and the (what used to be) Citgo station at 5 Mile and Middlebelt used to sell cigs to us underage people back then, so everyday after high school it was off to Citgo we go as soon as we stepped off the bus lmao
The part of the mall that was Sears still sits there empty. There was a big condo complex proposed but nothing is happening yet. There's a Walmart and Kohl's at the other end of what was Livonia Mall.
Thank you for this video. I was born and raised at 7 mile & Hayes (48205). Went to St. Jude parochial school and church in the 60s. St. Jude is located right where 7 mile begins and Moross ends. Father John Ording was still around back then. My family left in 1971 because my dad followed his job to the suburbs. The area looks much different today. My childhood house isn't even there any more. Still have lots of good memories.
Me too
Love this... I've only driven 7 mile rd from Grosse Pointe Farms to Haggerty... I was enjoying the view of Washtenaw County... think I may make that drive to Whitmore Lake... just beautiful
21:27 you passed the street I grew up on! I'm so hype right now! I love seeing my home on RUclips or in movies lol.
@6:29 you make a left at Schoenerr St. til you hit McNichols Rd. , take a right, until you hit Fairport and make another right and that's the street I grew up until I was 10.
I stayed over that way also
@little monster I must of worded that wrong. I lived on Fairport . I don't remember any parks around there. I was probably too young.
@little monster oh . Yeah I was there in the 90s . I went to Wilkins Elementary and then transfer to a private Armenian school in Southfield .
@little monster Agree . My grandpa lived on fairport and adore it . So I think that’s why I also adore Detroit . It always has memories of him . Same goes to you ☺️
Hmong community it's a shell of what it used to be, everyone moved.
wow interesting, did not know 7 mile ran that far . nice tour !!!!!!!!
Great job, Chris!
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I grew up in Detroit, on Fordham, I left in 1982 when I joined the military. It's terrible to see what has happened to the place since I left. It breaks my heart.
Detroit is not alone in decline and disinvestment. Most older northern cities and many old first ring suburbs are all in the exact same boat. This is just typical of the US rust belt whether it is in St Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, or Pittsburgh.
@@r.pres.4121 Can't imagine why.
This was so interesting and the added info as we drove along with you were interesting. I moved to Detroit in 1967 with my 2 year old daughter and my husband. We rented a 4 plex on the corner of Campbell and Rogers. We were within walking distance of the old Tigers stadium and Fort Wayne. I love Detroit. I never knew Morosse ( I’m sure I spelled that incorrectly) was the starting point for 7 mile. I also lived 3 blocks from the old amusement park that was at 7 and Berg then moved to Livingston County in 1981 and here I am today and still hear back to Detroit on occasion. Thank you for these memory jogging drives👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️
Ahhh the memories of walking to that savon grocery store at 17:35 as a kid. Walking to the Omni liquor store before and after it for a Faygo pop and some better made chips. Detroit is rough but Roses do grow through the concrete cracks. There are beautiful people in the ugliest of places. I learned that as a kid in Detroit and I took that everywhere with me in life and would get a reminder every time my family would come back to visit relatives
Good and visually informative video of 7 mile...
Hey Chris, Jimmy Long here. Man you drove right outta town until you ran out of road? That's some serious driving br.
I worked at the Total Gas station on corner of Gratiot & 8 mile/White Castle across the street/Trippin on this video-many thanx
Grew up in Palmer Woods (70's and 80's) , as a kid we would watch the car crews ride down 7 mile rd (Trans am club , Mustang club) , walk over to palmer park to check out their rides. Miss those days !!
I love your work, shared with others and letting the world know how entertaining this is. The accompanying music is like water boarding. But ah love you doe!!!!!!
Great tour! What are the green lights on top of signs, buildings, etc. that seem to be flashing? Example @ 17:51 atop the Mobil sign...

I see you also didn't mention greater Grace Temple one of the most prominent black churches in Detroit also is along 7 Mile
Where Rosa Parks and Aretha Franklin's funerals were.
Where can I find this beat ,and whos beat is it? Plz
Forgot how you could time the lights along some of the mile roads.
Nice starting point of place.
The last place I lived back in Detroit area was an old trailer park at the 7 Mile and Dequinder area. I left January 9 1982. 40 years ago tomorrow as I post this. Happy Escape Anniversary of 40 years!
Left the Motor City for PNW about 2 decades ago...but my heart belongs to Detroit. Can't wait to return for good. there's no place like it. I love everything about it!
Born and raised in NW Detroit, LEO 22 years. The city looks good. F the gangs I'm proud to call Detroit Michigan my home. All Detroiters have a great cohesion as one big family, people there are real. I was there for 36 years and miss home, am dating myself but I was there in the 67 riots, my home never recovered. The greatest thing about Detroit at least for me is it was never a black and white thang Detroiters are one people trying to make their lives better.
God I miss Coleman A. Young
Oh yeah the guy who drove out the entire white and black middle class. Yeah he was a great mayor...
Hey can you plz tell me the area from 17 seconds to 20 seconds? As much as I visit, ive never seen that area. I can only imagine how cool it looks in the fall and winter.
I once lived at 7 mile and Burt, right by Rouge park
The number of liquor store is way too high to keep track, however I did count 42 green flashing lights on commercial buildings, and 1 on a fire truck. Do I get a point for that?
1975-1978 lived on St. Mary's @ 7 Mile. I mile from Greenfield and 2 miles from Evergreen. Went to Henry Ford High @ 20000 Evergreen. I used to walk to school even in winter. Traffic circle at Pontiac Trail and 7 mile now. It's nice.
I grew up on Alcoy street, 3 blocks west of Schoenherr, and 2 blocks south of 7 Mile Rd. We had to move out in '76. I took a tour thru there a few weeks ago. Whew!!!! Terrible.
The quality of the roads and businesses always depict the type of neighborhood in the USA.
I lived on the east side from 1967 thru 1978. Attended Osborn High School from 1967 thru 1971. Mostly Polish/German neighbors. Very scary times during the riots in 1967.
Have u done Fort St Detroit southbound? Lincoln Park, wyandotte, southgate, riverview, etc.
Cool vid had to stop at 22:14 once you got took Redford had flashbacks of always getting pulled over by the cops!!
What did you do
23:59 One of the first, and best comic book shops used to be on the southwest corner of 7 Mile and Middlebelt Rd.. Classic Movie and Comic Center was it's name. Originally at Farmington Rd. and Grand River, it moved to Livonia in 1981. It closed it's doors in 2005, after the owner, C.C., got sick. Nothing like it, in Michigan, today.

Back then, our church (St. Mark's Episcopal - now it's Rushing Mighty Wind COGIC).
Nice video by the way
Are you sure that East to West is diagonal and not horizontal like Woodward which flows North to South? Just a thought of longitude and latitude.
3:15 - My first neighborhood. My childhood doctor's office on the right with the columns, Dr. Walter Poole. He delivered my sister and all my cousins at St. John Hospital (1954) at 2:32. That hospital is also where Fred Smith of the MC5 passed away from a heart attack. It was much smaller then We used to run around here like a bunch of wild animals; we had so much fun as kids. We used to walk to Balduck Park and go sledding. No fear. It was a mostly Italian neighborhood 1950-1990. People bought vacant lots and built their own house. No developers and cookie-cutter houses. All unique. BTW - 7 Mile doesn't get "sketchy" while you're driving on the Moross part of 7 Mile.... until you cross the Edsel Ford Freeway and it becomes 7 Mile proper.
What were the names of the background theme music? Because I really like to know please and thank you again for the video🤘💀👌
Where is Macomb county located?
I grew up near six mile and Chalmers.
I love my love city and rep my 313 all day. This video is wow full of it alot
My Grandparents used to lived on the SW corner of Goulburn and Manning. In the early 90's they had to move to Clarkston cause their home was broken into about three times.
Pretty sure that the lifted Camaro in the beginning, was spotted in Lansing in the summer of 2021!

Ah My old stomping grounds. The 48205. Born and raised. Left home in 2010. It wasn't horrible in the 90's. After the crash everything went to pot. Entire blocks were vacant.
Soon as you hit Livonia it appears the roads are in much better shape.
Very good video.

you missed Sherwood and University district area on the other side of Palmer Woods that sits between 6 and 7 mile Road. A beautiful area of the city that shouldn't be missed. Also across from University district, Green Acres area more beautiful homes. check it out next go around.
