I’m more in tune with the works of Danny Thomas and Jack Benny, but I seem to recall a Lucy/Desi episode where Fred McMurray & his wife were on a uranium hunt. (Fairly certain it was not a Gloria & Jimmy Stewart outing with Lucy/Desi.)
Jack downplayed his abilities as an ad-libber, but I found the live performances so interesting/ funny due to those spontaneous ad-libs. On the filmed performances (like this one), the writers’ words are respected & the humor (while often recycled from the radio shows) are golden. George Burns and Joan Benny have often stated/written that Jack sometimes found it difficult (even with cue cards/glasses) to memorize the various scripts throughout the TV years. Maybe this is (one of many reasons) why he interspersed several filmed episodes.
