I would be interested in the August 2019- March 2020 storyline!! 🙋♀️ My life also completely changed in that exact time period (not to say anything about.. March 2020 and beyond 🙃).
I’ve never had an Hobonichi break in the last 6 years, and my Hobonichis get thiiiiick. One of them is literally 6 inches thick. Don’t feel pressured to take anything out. You can even fold it back on itself to get a smooth writing surface without breaking the spine.
But maybe switch to the Hobonichi Avec system if you’re really worried about it?

@@ammieyall yeah, I’ve used a bunch, but mostly the clear Midori cover (which I think is similar to the one you’re using)
I have never once had my binding break. I’ve been using Hobonichi for 10 years. Always keep it in a cover or clear Midori cover, even the jelly covers from Etsy.

Are jelly covers different than clear covers? I have a Lauren Phelps clear cover right now and the edges have all broken and the dry flappy bits drive me nuts. Been wondering if jelly is actually jelly and squishy versus clear and breakable.
@@katlero28mine isn’t squishy but it’s held up really well over the last year and a half! Edges are sewn nicely and no cracking or weird bits coming off. It’s maybe softer than regular plastic? Hard to say now that I’m thinking about how to describe it 😂
@@katlero28 the jelly covers I got from Etsy are (to me) thicker than the Midori clear covers and CoCs. All of my hobo spines do that weird bend the thicker they get but they’ve never come apart.

So glad to know the Ammie y’all story now! But serious cliffhanger with what happened between Aug 2019-March 2020. Would love to hear that part of the story. Did the company who let you go end up paying for your flight? Did you end up getting to teach at the conference?
Were you in path of totality for the eclipse? I wasn’t this time-but I was in 2017. I started a page in my hobo for my eclipse day this year and was trying to figure out how to use some type of brad (is that what those metal things are called?) -to make a hinge so the moon can literally “swing” in front of the sun. Haven’t figured it out yet though.
Did you give yourself an 8/10 for the journal challenge because you still decided not to count the cowboy Carter album illustration as your song illustration? I give you a 9/10 for your journal challenge accomplishments lol.
Fav TTPD -down bad & who’s afraid of little old me & smallest man who ever lived. As someone who grew up in Florida I was so frustrated with how she pronounces “Florida” because the emphasis on the “i” is so weird. But it’s grown on me. Not loving the albatross or I hate it here.
In your last video you mentioned something about how you were being snarky on the last or second to last day of the month and that you’d explain. So would love that story. (I wouldn’t remember that but I watched these two videos back to back because I was behind and finally catching up!)

use the monthlies to track your mood. one word to encapsulate the day, and for messier or fuller days do morning/afternoon/night. gives you a great overview of how you felt during everything

I’ve never had binding issues at all with notebooks and I like Paper Bound Creation covers. I feel like they protect the covers and help it stay bound.

To answer your questions, I'm okay this month but swamped with PhD work (rude of grad school to be stressful). My favourite TTPD songs are "But Daddy I Love Him" and "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" (I'm making it very clear that I'm a lesbian by loving all the songs with men in them, obviously). And I'm not using a Hobonichi at present but man do I miss her :( the one I bought for 2024 is trying to call me back!!

@@ammieyall thanks ammie!! 🥰I am a gaylor to some extent (I mean, bisexuality is a thing, I don't think she needs to be 100% gay or straight lol!) but I definitely think TTPD is less of a queer-coded album than some of the others -- the songs about matty are really good you're right!
OMG your Hobonichi is a DREAM! I bought a Weeks Mega because I was very influenced by other planners on YT and... I had to move to a Leuchtturm Weekly callendar bc Weeks was too small for me ;___; But yours??? An inspiration! Love the colours, love that you're in your sticker era~!
The weeks can be so tiny!! I definitely only use mine for work and wish I could be more creative in it but it’s just so small! ❤️❤️

I feel your pain with the Hobonichi binding. My 2023 cousin’s binding completely popped off its backing. I had to glue it back together. I was only semi-successful 😬 but it does seem to indicate I had a good time 🤭

Right!! And I listened on Spotify and sometimes it does that skipping around chapters glitch so I would get deep into a chapter and then realize it was like 6 ahead of where I actually was. The whole reading experience was a lot 😂
Not crazy. Let the the binding breathe. You can also cut the outside paper of the binding and it will expand fine. Don’t worry. It takes a lot to break hobonichis. Fun scrolling time: thick hobonichis, some are soo fat.
Cutting the paper makes so much sense and also scares me so deeply 😂

I love TTPD so much. I've been a on and off fan of TS for years. I have a top 3, since I can't choose only one 🙈 who's afraid of little old me?, Down bad, and Fortnight. My least favorite I think is I can fix him or Florida. Love your video ❤

FWIW I've never put a cover on my hobo. But this year I added stickers... (I haven't had a biding problem in the many years that I have used a hobo, but this year is the first year that I leaning Into CHUNKY - so time will tell.)

While hobonichi has amazing binding, I have seen really chunky art books doing weird things to the binding.
I have heard the advice to not glue things right up to the binding, leave a bit of space there. Thought of that when you were looking at the cardstock you had inserted.
Thanks for the tips! I’ve also noticed I tend to tape things towards the bottom. I’m gonna have to start moving them up on the page to distribute the chunk!
What are the weeklies capturing that are not in the monthly "one thing a day?" (I'm in a planner questioning phase myself & analyzing other planners/journals... Trying to find my vibe.) I'm even questioning why I asked, because when you showed last years - I prefer this years & would like for my brain to lean into the ART more than the plan. (Next year I am going to get a separate "meal plan" planner - the only thing I really "NEED" to plan - the rest of the stuff gets done...)
The weeklies are capturing more details than the monthly thought a day. Sometimes I’ll repeat myself but honestly not that often. Monthly pages look a lot like “drama day” or “felt good I got everything shipped” or “dinner with kelcie”. I like that those weekly pages are turning out to be whatever pages. It feels like a lot less pressure and I’m happy as long as I can flip back to the week and be like oh cool I remember that part. My Hobonichi Weeks planner is where I do all my work and life planning so it’s easier to be more art focused in my cousin. I feel like my cousin is just here for vibes. 🤘😎

I have the same issue with the binding and this never happened before. My Cousin is in an original Hobonichi cover and it's not even junky. I'm pretty disappointed by the quality this year. And that new paper... it's frustrating. A lot of pens/inks I used on the old paper bleed through now and the drawings with the Tombow markers get streaky. No chance to blend them anymore. :( How do you like the new paper?
I have noticed a change with the paper but I honestly can’t tell if it’s because I’m pushing it further with more layers and types of pens or if it’s the paper. I always assume it’s a me issue 😂
@@ammieyall 😂 No, it's not you. A lot of people are complaining about the quality of the new paper. I guess it's still better than most of the papers out there. 😆
It's bent from the cover. Hobonichi books will lay perfectly flat if they are not in the cover.

Follow meeeee! I’m newer to the hobo obsession, but I’m all in. I have a clear cover from paper bound creations and i haven’t found any issues but again- hobo noob. Love candy salad so effing much. Your origin name story is fun- but not the part where you got let go from your job- fuck them. You and I have the same trauma response. It takes way less to scare the shit out of me though- so you win (not that it’s a contest, but ya know…). Beavis & Butthead on SNL was best. Hot takes- I’m not a super TS fan… my 8 year old on the other hand- on repeat. Another hot take- I didn’t really care for the one and only Emily Henry story I ever listened to- Happy Place. I do have “People we meet on vacation” & “Funny Story” queued up. The quote from your nephew nearly took me out… “the privacy” (I do have the humor of a 8 year old boy so that tracks). My hobonichi is 1,000% a full-on love affair!
