My worst backpacking trip was my second trip, camped at 11,175 feet and developed altitude sickness even though I usually hiked at 10,000 feet all the time. I was solo and really couldn’t take of myself. I had to message my partner who had to come to camp (2 miles from trailhead) and help me pack up and come down at night. So horrible to have to leave in the middle of the night, and grateful my partner came to get me.
Thanks for sharing! Yeah there can be many variables that can derail a trip. Sorry to hear about altitude sickness but that's no joke. Glad you had someone somewhat nearby that got you out of there safe! Thanks for watching!
I think most people’s worst trip are some of their first trip. Lol. But it makes for some of the best memories! It’s amazing how much you learn from your first trip. Challenge accepted.
Hahaha agreed! It's also amazing how it's such a fine line, like if 1 or a couple things went differently it would've been a totally different trip! Can't wait to see what you come up with Dan!
Hi! Thanks for starting the tag and sharing what you learned! I wouldn't think that you'd have ants and gnats or that it wouldn't cool off at the coast!! That sounds pretty rough - good call to leave under those conditions. My pad makes noise too, I think I have to start wearing earplugs to get a better sleep - lol. I'm west coast too- up the coast in WA. I subbed - nice to meet you!

Sounds like a rough trip. Heat is my kryptonite! Bugs are my Wife's. Bug dreams are the worst. LOL. It is no fun having to bail early on a trip. I done that a few times before. Haha 🤣 totally agree. It was the perfect storm for me! It's normally pretty windy by the coast here in SoCal so wasn't expecting it to be quite as hot. Glad you joined in! Was great hearing your story too!
