We Got Scammed Booking This Thai Country Resort

- Today we travel from Pattaya to The Province of Chantaburi to check-in to a Thai Country Resort. We had hoped this All-Inclusive Resort would be a bit of an adventure in a beautiful, quiet country setting. What we got once we arrived was a nightmare that could leave us stranded.

Another reason to stay away from Facebook, a billion reasons and counting.
100% agree
LOL your blaming the social media platform for someone posting a fake add??????? hahaha maybe do your due diligence
I got scammed on Facebook for some shoes for 10k. Never ever never trust anything on Facebook. Facebook nor the police care at all.
Solid advice 👍
10k for shoes? They saw you coming a mile away.
There is a Thai blacklist site....i registered but couldnt post the details when I was scammed a few weeks ago on Facebook marketplace.... Worth looking for to put promptpay info up there...
Please tell me that was the running distance.
Yes, buying or sending money via Facebook is a big nono.
Unfortunately it happened to some of my friends in Phupaman. Exactly the same way that your friend got scammed. It's a shite move by some horrible people.
sorry to hear this Lucas, hope you ended up with an enjoyable stay somewhere
Hope you and your group had a great weekend anyway could’ve been worse safe travels Lucas
Sorry to hear about this Lucas , i hope that you managed to secure some accommodation later on that night , I will wait for your next video , there are scammers everywhere buddy ,unfortunately , enjoy the rest of your trip buddy
yes. it is so true, anyone can fall for a scam. scammers are very sophisticated. sorry to hear your whole group was scammed
It's just as well that you keep everything Lucas, so you don't get cheated.💪
Great vlog 👌👍. Continue with your nice information we all need as tourists in Thailand 🙏. All the best to you and keep up the great work you are doing ❤.
Thank you so much 👍
"Down to the shore" you really are from Jersey. Love your videos!
I always use Agoda for my stays..😊thanks for sharing..
Oh! Sorry to hear this. I always book thru Agoda or similar to avoid this but when 10 ppl involved I understand has to book as a group.
Chantabuuri is a great province, stayed in 3 resorts and never asked for my passport. No farrangs too. Thai people mainly.Great.😌😌
Bummer man... Getting scammed sucks!!... on the bright side... The wings looked amazing!
That chicken looked awesome!
Lucas, you talking about the English Grill, use to be well know for their fried chicken. Enjoy your videos, been a follower for a few years now. Eastern Shore.
sorry to hear that you got scammed. Sure you found a nice place to stay..
hope things went ok friend!
Wieder ein gutes Video Lukas 👍 Gruß Achim 😎🍺
Danke Achim 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
I hope the rest of your weekend got better. I despise scammers.
Unfortunately becoming all to common. Sorry to hear. Makes for a bummer day for sure .It's happen to me several times in SEA.
You hear about this all the time so (unfortunately for you) your video is a valid warning to all of us. In an odd way, it’s interesting to see you go through this real-time. The effect is magnified with such a large group, over the weekend and so far from Pattaya. Good luck.
Exactly, hearing about it and seeing it happen are 2 different things 👍🙏
I sold my 4 years old Mercedes last year. When I put on FB market I got a tons of scammers . Soon as they want put a deposit down I said no , you have to look first . My meeting point was at the sheriff station “ safe exchange zone”. Soon as I mentioned no scammer responded again! Lol
The car has a lovely new owner I got what I asked for and the new owner happy!
Like you said many smaller rural resorts don't use the big booking sites. Only Facebook which is still very popular in SE Asia. Lesson here is to never put down a deposit without going thru a major 3rd party or using a credit card. We stayed at a nice little resort my wife found on FB, and they never asked for a deposit. So when they do be aware..
Crazy story and good content
Sorry to hear about this happening to your group.
Unfortunately this happens all the time Lucas. Have to live and learn. Thanks for sharing with us. Take care and enjoy the rest of your trip. 😊
Holyy Shit mate. U just come back to my feed . It’s been a wile . I luv your vids mate keep it up
I understand that some businesses don't like having their bookings handled by AGODA because they take so much of the fee the customer pays but as a paying customer I have been using AGODA for quite a while now since you mentioned booking with them a few years ago Loucous and have never had an issue with them. I always print out my booking confirmation slip to give to the hotel on check in. Scammers are everywhere Loucous and I feel so sorry for your friend, how horrible for her and your group ☹️
Thanks, yeah I've never had an issue with them but some properties are just not available, for them, I call and book over the phone.
ssscammers are not everywhere.
Sorry to hear that. That sucks.
Lucas ; really appreciate you informing us ; thanks for all that you do
Not a great start to a weekend away, hope the next accommodation is better.
So sorry y that our friend was fooled. It could happen to anyone.
I hope you can salvage the day!
Thanks 👍👍
A weekend you will never forget.
All the time on FB. You really have to be careful. Sometimes you have to the that “scout” and go down ahead of time and book in person. Scouting out the property and making sure it’s ok, especially for a large party
Cheers mate,
🙂
Hope all is okay
The WINGS sure looks yummy 😋
So good
Lukas, so sorry that this happened to your group. I work as a fraud investigator in New York, and this type of scheme is pretty common. It is very easy for a fraudster to put up a fake ad on Facebook. Excellent advice about finding the legitimate vendor online and calling that number rather than the number listed on Facebook. I know how awful it can feel to learn that someone has taken advantage of you. I hope that the rest of your group's weekend turned out OK and that everyone has a relaxing time. People should not dump on Thailand - this type of scam happens in every country in the world every day. Thailand is a safe, fascinating and fun country and the people there are wonderful. I have been there about 15 times and hope to visit again this year!!!
Cool, as an investigator, you may appreciate the outcome of this detailed on the next episode. 👍
Sorry to hear this Lucas - hope your party can rescue the phoenix from the flames 🙏
Thanks Angus
I am so sorry this happened to you and your friends. There is no protection on line unfortunately. I have seen one group who assists the elderly who have scammed out of alot of money. This fellow and his friends do it for free to help people. I will keep looking to see if I can find their site. 😢
Hope things work out for you. I have never used Facebook for a purchase. However I did make the mistake of making a small purchase of a bicycle thru a pop-up claiming to be a closeout. What arrived was a small toy. Be as careful as you can. I was fortunate my credit card charged the amount back as a credit.
Well that really sucked! I’ve heard of similar scams like this in Samui and Krabi but this is the first time to actually see it happen….sorry that it ruined everyone’s trip!
Thanks, yeah I think the big tourist areas are more of a target, these small country resorts still don't have immunity from this sort of thing unfortunately
Bummer 😮😮😮 sorry Lucas 😢
What a bummer!
Well that sucks, happens to the best of us
I remember English's. Good restaurants. Fantastic chicken. I grew up on the Delmarva peninsula.
👍👍👍👍
Englishes Chicken in Ocean City MD closed/sold 10 years ago now. Its now an All you can Eat Crab house
Used to be a line out the door on Saturdays around lunch time, but that was 40 years ago 😲🤣👍
The inconvenience of it is the worst hit. 9000 baht between 10 people is a bargain to walk away from an organized criminal scam. Your friend must feel terrible about it.
Thanks, Maybe your shenanigans will make a real interesting next video.
Thanks again for sharing your videos, Mark
can happen to anyone. I hope she didn't feel too bad. What hurts more than money is the disappointment of your friends.
Its surprising how often cloning sites happen always be careful 🧐
That's such a shame - you're right - I'll only book with reputable sights - A bit like FB market place - a lot of dodgy things on there - cars being sold for incredibly low prices!
Hey Lucas Never Book anything through Facebook always though a trusted Booking site thank you for the warning heads up hope your trip gets salvaged best Chris
👍👍👍
Seems to be a Lot of the Scam going on . Hope Your
Weekend turn out OK ...
👍👍👍
I love Agoda will not use anyone else only Agoda !!!!!!
As you said you use one of dthe main travel sites. There's nothing to figure out. It was a fake site and now you need to book on a main travel platform.
Sad to hear pal
Sorry to hear about that lucas. Agoda is much safer.
Unfortunate. Sorry for your friend. Money lost, the time and the "embarrassment"(nit her fault) in front of everyone😤. Yes, it can happen to anyone, even multimillionaires, business people had been scam. Happy travels(next time) and stay safe. God bless you all👍🏿.
Thanks Antonio 👍
Go to the hills in Chantaburi, much nicer , cooler
Shame you got scammed. I booked a Trip to thailand at an all inclusive place and lucked the hell out. It wasn't a scam... Except for maybe the hot water not working well and the lack of a washer/dryer... Hopefully they can fix the hot water monday. IDK,.
The asking for a deposit is the red flag here. I have never had to pay any deposit for accomodation in Thailand.
This is why I stopped buying anything on Facebook I learned my lesson. Sucks I hate it for you guys! I truly hate all these scammers and get phone calls, texts and emails every day for some kind of scam.
Not unusual. Friends of mine got scammed the same way trying to go to a resort in Damnoen Saduak. The price was too good to be true. My friends are experienced travelers, and Thai teachers. When they checked back again, the site was gone...
There are acammers even on Google Maps. But it's usually someone setting up a fake business (POI) say in insurance and then funneling the calls to someone who signs people up for that bigger business which does NOT have local offices. I did find one like that locally recently and got it closed. Automotive fake business.
Seems it's getting worse
I feel bad for everyone! Will be visiting Thailand for the first time in October this year. Plan to spend the whole month at multiple locations for 3-7 days each; would it be best for me to book lodging through Agoda?
Yeah, that will probably be fine.
My Wife always checks the price on Agoda and then calls the resort and talks to a real person when booking a room.
Too good to be true + Facebook, two big red flags!
AGODA sponsor this man
Yet I would expect that the Fake pages will add the "Same" warnings.
scammers can be tricky ..... sorry to see that you were scammed.... your advice is good .... google the place and use that phone number... hope you made a good situation out of the bad one cobber
I think we ended up ok 👍😊
Rough life. Hope you survive
Thai news regularly has reports like this. I hope she paid in a sensible way (credit card would be best) that can be traced and that the police will deal with it.
Unfortunate situation, hope she's able to recover her money.
Thanks Edwin
Had a Thai gf book my Bangkok apartment. All cash deal. Stayed at the place for a few months, $400/mo with two cleanings per week. Great experience, maybe I just got lucky.
Thanks for the information.
Hopefully, they get busted by the police.
Lucas , 😢😢😢 be advised that ENGLISH'S CHICKEN located 1500 Philadelphia road OCEAN CITY , Maryland is now permanently closed 😢😢😢😢 -- Darryl
A similar thing happened to me on a group tour arranged by someone else in Canada, except I was only out $10. Everyone wanted to kill the person that arranged it. 😮
Sorry to hear what happened hopefully the royal police might do something
👍👍👍
Such a sad thing to happen to your friend. Saving face is important, and it seems people take a double hit of humiliation when it comes to losing money in TH. Feel for your friend big time. She thought she was helping the group. Well, maybe TH can get some of the money back when the Chinese scammer comes to visit? Would be a real shame if they also booked on FB. J
I've never had or used face book but the pronunciation here is "fay boo" ,well that's what I here
Having been scammed last year for $520k I have NO mercy for the scammers and would jail them for the remainder of their miserable lives.
Facebook is handy for many things, booking accommodation is not one of them
Agoda are scammers too they take up to 40% of the booking hence resorts like these doing their own bookings.
That would make sense Nick but I've tried to do a direct booking with a number of places and they're not interested- and ask me to book with Agoda or Booking. I have a small place in Scotland and would love everyone to book direct 🙏
Wait until you see the outcome of this story in the next episode. Who the scammer turns out to be is enlightening and it may be something you might want to keep an eye out for too.
Well Agoda may be expensive, but they are not a scammer. With Agoda, you get what you pay for, (although maybe more expensive). But with a scammer, that, is someone that pretends to offer you a product or service, but is not the real person. They take your money and offer you nothing. Do you see the difference? Just because a product or service is high-priced in your opinion, doesn't make it a scam. Also included in that higher price, is the safety and money back protection offered with using a legitimate service like Agoda.
The internet is a wonderful thing, but it has opened up a plethora of opportunities for scam artists.
Same here...I always use Agoda or whatever along the line of those companies with proven contact, and a remote payment company who monitors these things naturally.
Anyone who uses social media sites for anything is asking to be parted from their money real quick.
She may think and others may think she is a smart lady but proof is in the pudding and she is not alone as you say.
Many so called smart rich people here in Aus get taken for a ride and when it is shown on the news or current affairs, it's always the same response, what the hell were they thinking?
It's not the resort's fault. Never pay for anything advertised on FACEBOOK. Never send a deposit to ANYONE on Facebook without an official business account and phone number.
Booking off FB and paying a deposit is dumb
I’d never book anything off of Facebook
It's very sad that people scam. I would think they have better things to do than steal someone else's money! I hope they get caught, but most of the time they don't.
Resort needs to show their facebook page URL, the fake ones will have different URL
Booking from FB come on
It's very common in Thailand and SE Asia. But when they ask for a deposit, that's when you need to think twice.
Facebook is the go to place for "Scammers" I have been scammed with clothing purchases. I never buy anything associated with Facebook now. Not only scams like this but millions of "Fake Facebook Accounts" that people create, for whatever purpose who knows? 😐
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought.....facebook😢
Facebook is BS !!...because so many people use it, it's the perfect way for scammers, hackers... If that lady friend is that smart, why she booked it trough Facebook? A good lesson for not doing that again. Like I've said... FB is BS
English's Chicken on Rt 50 Cambridge
👍👍👍👍👍
Scammers everywhere, from Lazada,ATMs and everything in between. But they all have a smile on their faces. No Problem.
yes FB scams atm..... popular :( they make them look good... hard to pick sometimes.
Bank accounts need a Thai ID to set up. There should be somebody the Bank/police can go back to. The bank should be held more accountable about establishing bank accounts that scammers or their proxies use.
Hope she used Credit Card MC/Visa she would be insured.
That stinks! Sorry it happened. To be continued…
Thanks, Yes.
