Mate the size of the ones we used to get off the boardwalk at Caloundra with the old boy were giants. Proper class fish one after the other. Sadly it’s just doesn’t fish like it used to partly because of the bar shallowing up or something.

I was a mad keen luderick fisho back in the eighties and nineties, I can lament with the story your dad told. Nowadays I use an 8wt fly rod with floating line and a fluro tippet and gently roll cast if i'm on the rocks. My float is just a little foam pom pom.

I also have a TCR 12wt I bought from Rod Harrison that I also used on ludes ,, It's just tea bagging after all.

I’m looking at your dad’s rod & I’m thinking ‘is that a mag bream?’ But alas I’m wrong. The colour & action are very similar, and it is my all time favourite rod I have for bream n whiting off the beach n blackfish n bream off the rocks. Perfect for 6 to 8lb line on a 5 inch Alvey. Bullet proof light beach fishing outfit. Edit. For something a bit different, mix 1/3 Kraft Parmesan Cheese powder into your breadcrumbs, & a bit of seasoned salt. Other than that, you make your fish burgers identical (except I bake my own rolls coz I’m really weird).
Hi Sammy, I caught a luderick the other day and for the first time. In cooking, it flesh was extremely firm but juicy. To some extent it reminds me of squid. It that correct? Or should it be flaky like other fish? Certainly a fish I intend to target but I feel confused with cooking it.
