People have been saying for several years now they want the lines buried. That was until they found out they are the ones who will pay for it. All because of mismanagement in forests because tree "huggers" don't want ANY trees or brush cut. They want to have a wooden house surrounded by lots of trees. They must not realize that is describing a ticking time bomb.

It's even worse than that. The whole ""renewable" every scam is to renew the investors bank accounts for the panels and batteries they invest in. Notice how LED light bulbs don't even last as long as the old incandescents? It's by design of course (I've been an electrical/software engineer for 25 years btw and fell for this scam last time around. It's why I majored in engineering originally). Anyway, in 10-15 years there will be thousands of acres of junk panels and batteries lying in fields needing replaced and no recycling centers because it isn't cost effective. SO naturally the govt will subsidize recycling so we can pay for that too! And on it will go because the liberal elite has to maintain their lifestyle of zero work and all play. I used to make close to $1500/day busting my tail repairing electronics until they gave it all to China so we could have cheap junk to toss in landfills and put every single one of us out of business. How exactly did that move benefit green thinking? It's the same story. Make the elite richer without having to do any work and toss the scraps to US. By the time a generation wakes up to what they are doing, two more gave already become voting age that are all on board with being useful idiots for the.... Oh, I can't even go on with this rant. We should direct the emotions to the entity that approves and allows these rate increases. That entity for Gas, Electricity (Power), and Water is the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). If the CPUC says no then the utilities can't do increases. But the CPUC almost alwaus says yes to it all or to a significant amount of the rate increase requests. Ex CPUC leadership often moves on to be leadership of these utilities. I bet there are even ex utility workers that work at the CPUC.

I am not a californian, but out of curiousity, I compared the 2017 electricity udage to the 2022 usage in Los Angeles County. 20673 million-kilowatt-hours were used in 2017, and 23255 million kilowatt hours in 2022. Basically, 2600 million kilowatt hours have been addes to the electrical grid burden in just 5 years. PG&E is probably stretched too thin, and hence needs to raise rates to effectively cut back on demand. Higher pricing will cut usage and return it more closely to 2017 levels. Even if the CEO and their 50 million dollars were used to subsidize Los Angeles county, it wouldn't provide a dent in pricing.

    • @jake1110

It's like a long segment on gasoline costs where you refuse to talk about the cost per gallon and focus exclusively on the cost to fill up a car. Both matter and part of why PG&E keeps getting away with huge increases is that nobody knows or talks about the unit cost of energy. Just add in that basic info and this will be a lot more useful.
