Hi Friends!
Here's the next part of my 1990 Cannondale SM800, that got shiny! I started to experiment with a little tumbler and the results are amazing.
Inexpensive tumbler you can use for such rust removal and polishing:

Really looking forward to this one! Some of us cannot afford new bikes! I have several vintage Cannondales(4) it's all that I can afford, and the low mileage groupset are very reliable, when taken care of meticulously, the are more than adequate for 99% of riders today. I'm afraid that many have become fanatical over having the newest and best. You're supposed to enjoy riding your bike, not going insane paying for the newest model...lol
This is so satisfying to watch!
Fantastic job , your attention to detail is testimony to how good this restoration will be. You are a young man however as you get older you will more and more appreciate beautiful things from the past. Really looking forward to seeing the finished product. No wonder you have so many subscribers. 👍👍
I love seeing old things get restored. It feels victorious
Nice restoration. Be sure your cogs are not too worn before embarking on this kind of project.
Great point , I couldn't have said it better myself
pro tip , take a single roler from a new chain ( usually there is a bit left if you replace yours) and glue or weld it onto a rod or pen and you can easily check your cassete
Good work, very impressive results! Thank you for showing all the steps!
Very soothing to watch. Nice work.
The good old polish. Looks good.Nice restauration
It is so satisfying to watch this video, thank you 👍👏
meanwhile on GCN, "how to install a set of pedals"
I know, right? When they started replacing personnel, I left and uninstalled the app. Very disappointing. Shame, really...was such an enjoyable platform..
Lost interest in them because the ramble about crap.
Great work 🔝👌
*Neat equipment!* 👍
looks sparkling new
Nice restoration. You should get good results with oven cleaner in much less time...
The music kept me calm envisioning me doing this myself.
this guy is from poland! epic.
Remarkable results. I need to order some ceramic media and porcelain balls.
What you do not have porcelain balls??
Hi, your videos are always great....Very nice result! 👏
You just used sanding for rust removal....what do you think about using chemicals or vinegar?
Bye 😉
Great video. Two quick questions:
(1) Were the porcelain balls that you used in the tumbler 5mm or 10mm?
(2) What type of liquid did you add? Thank you! 🤙🏻
Video very good
Would polishing them with a buffing wheel be overkill, or even detrimental to their proper functioning?
Please list your exact tumbler and your exact Dremel tool + its attachments you used.
Hello, sorry to ask a dumb question but could you please let me know the make and model of your tumbler. I want to do the same thing as you but also many other items. Thank you very much in advance for your response.
Good work. But you can probably work a lot faster with better results than the tumbler with some elbow grease.
What solvent do you use?
Fantastic job, Im glad seeing so many attractive girls interested in bike mainintence as well
That tumbler did a great job taking all that rust off. Never heard of one before, but it certainly has me thinking of picking one up for the occasional rust removing job that comes up here and there.
Got some questions for you about using one though, if you wouldn't mind -
1. How many pounds of ceramic media does that tumbler take...?
2. Which liquid did you use at 1:49...?
3. Does the rust end up settling in the bottom of the tumbler for easy cleanup, or does it end up on the ceramic, requiring replacement of the media over time...?
Thx...
Idk my dumbass thought it was nitro methane 😂
Never knew cassettes where bolted together, thought they were all riveted together.
Amazing restoration. Hope the cassette teeth are all good, otherwise it is not worth the effort. Great job nonetheless!
You have thinned and removed quite a lot of the factory anodizing. How would you prevent rust coming back now?
by spraying on a fresh chromate anodizing coat
the 'hell is going on in this comment section?
Nice, its even more now lol.
I think Sickbiker has visited a bit too many spam-pornsites! 😅
Clear nail polish can preserve the sticker
Ehhh 30 years old bike? Mine looks almost the same after 4 months cause my landlord does not approve me keeping it indoors or under any roof... this forces me to use bike covers but weather is weather anyway. I think im gonna move out soon.
man i love polishing SS also. Is the was absolutely necessary after cleaning?
what is that liquid in the jar? gasoline?
extraction gasoline
awesome work! what is the name of the tool used at 0:27ish ?? and the liquid in the jar?
thank you!
OP will have to weigh in on the liquids. But the tool is a plain ol' socket wrench.
This feels like an ASMR video
Hi! What's the song name? Great video!
Looks like your thumbnail has two different cassettes
What is the small electric hand tool call to polish?
Thxs
Dremel
Interested what the device used to remove the rust!
Tumbler Machine

Can you do the Vinegar or Baking Soda shxt on that
What is the first tool name, the one that you are using to separate the gears plates
Ratchet & socket
Imagine having all those tool i will never i repeat my bike will never get BROKEN
Great stuff... But a new one costs perhaps $20...
Title of the music pls
What kind of sorcery is this 🧐😳
*This is what makes me so angry*
The older components made 20 30 years ago were great, sturdy and made good bike a practical form of cheaper transportation.
A good bike today cost more than a car.
Parts are expensive and usually break within 6 months of normal riding.
Not mountain trails, just normal use.
All the different standards cost additional money if you are not aware where I learned my lessons in *cold hard cash*
Common sense don't apply.
Just because Shimano made it doesn't mean it is Shimano compatible.
Years ago a frame last forever.
Nowadays a carbon fiber frame $2,000 can be done in six months if it doesn't kill someone or seriously injure somebody.
true, modern stuff is optimized towards quickly breaking down, which makes perfectly sense from the manufacture´s perspective. this applies to any modern stuff and produces unnecessary waste. thats why i keep vintag stuff alive, it keeps working for ages if you give it a little care.
I agree that the market can get a bit crazy but buying a cromo frame, some generic shifters and cheap cogs & chain rings is still an option. They are readily available, long lasting (with proper care), easily serviceable and cheaply available all over the Web. Just don't expect them to be as fast, light or still.
omg 9 and 12 hours
Mantep bingit bang... sekalian bersiin punya gw dong... 👍
1:56 I was like, are those BB bullets? for airsoft?
hahahaha
that totally shiny... whew
What is that liquid
Vibrainum only available in Wakanda.
Will a cassette from a kid bike fit on an adult bike?
Depends on a lot of factors, but most likely no.
what he said ^
How big was the kid?
Better put it in an acid-water solution for 24h. (Citric or orange)
Funny how the dust remover machine has actual rust on it 😂🤣
any tips on how to remove rust without using those special tools you have? 😅
Rust remover. Steel wool. Wire brushes & elbow grease.
I'd just buy a new one....
It look like new🤣🤣🤣
what was the point of this? wouldn't the cassette likely have been very worn? cool video though
A year old cassette is dead now we are told to clean a 30 year old one.
My argument is the *fact* that consumers are *forced* to buy *inferior products* at much higher prices....
Where companies like Shimano and Sram along with many bike manufacturers have become greedy octopuses that monopolize the market.
So Nice 💘💘💘💘💘💘
