    Hi Friends!
    Here's the next part of my 1990 Cannondale SM800, that got shiny! I started to experiment with a little tumbler and the results are amazing.
    Inexpensive tumbler you can use for such rust removal and polishing:

    Really looking forward to this one! Some of us cannot afford new bikes! I have several vintage Cannondales(4) it's all that I can afford, and the low mileage groupset are very reliable, when taken care of meticulously, the are more than adequate for 99% of riders today. I'm afraid that many have become fanatical over having the newest and best. You're supposed to enjoy riding your bike, not going insane paying for the newest model...lol

      pro tip , take a single roler from a new chain ( usually there is a bit left if you replace yours) and glue or weld it onto a rod or pen and you can easily check your cassete

    (1) Were the porcelain balls that you used in the tumbler 5mm or 10mm?
    (2) What type of liquid did you add? Thank you! 🤙🏻

    That tumbler did a great job taking all that rust off. Never heard of one before, but it certainly has me thinking of picking one up for the occasional rust removing job that comes up here and there.
    Got some questions for you about using one though, if you wouldn't mind -
    1. How many pounds of ceramic media does that tumbler take...?
    2. Which liquid did you use at 1:49...?
    3. Does the rust end up settling in the bottom of the tumbler for easy cleanup, or does it end up on the ceramic, requiring replacement of the media over time...?
    Thx...

    *This is what makes me so angry*
    The older components made 20 30 years ago were great, sturdy and made good bike a practical form of cheaper transportation.
    A good bike today cost more than a car.
    Parts are expensive and usually break within 6 months of normal riding.
    Not mountain trails, just normal use.
    All the different standards cost additional money if you are not aware where I learned my lessons in *cold hard cash*
    Common sense don't apply.
    Just because Shimano made it doesn't mean it is Shimano compatible.
    Years ago a frame last forever.
    Nowadays a carbon fiber frame $2,000 can be done in six months if it doesn't kill someone or seriously injure somebody.

    • @VAMIRACING
      @VAMIRACING 3 года назад +4

      true, modern stuff is optimized towards quickly breaking down, which makes perfectly sense from the manufacture´s perspective. this applies to any modern stuff and produces unnecessary waste. thats why i keep vintag stuff alive, it keeps working for ages if you give it a little care.

    • @MrBoyinabox
      @MrBoyinabox 3 года назад +2

      I agree that the market can get a bit crazy but buying a cromo frame, some generic shifters and cheap cogs & chain rings is still an option. They are readily available, long lasting (with proper care), easily serviceable and cheaply available all over the Web. Just don't expect them to be as fast, light or still.

    My argument is the *fact* that consumers are *forced* to buy *inferior products* at much higher prices....
    Where companies like Shimano and Sram along with many bike manufacturers have become greedy octopuses that monopolize the market.
