I have been using henna for probably 4 or 5 years. I’m a natural red/auburn haired person. I was always called a redhead, but now I have white hairs which drives me nuts so I use henna. I actually put it on my damp hair and that works very well, because otherwise my hair is too dry since it’s coarse and wavy/curly. I don’t usually wait to put it on. I mix it with some coffee and filtered water, a couple tsp. apple cider vinegar with “the mother” and that’s it. I cover my hair with a plastic shopping bag to keep it moist and use an alligator clip to close it behind my head. I typically leave it in 2 hours, some times more but not longer than 3. I wash out with conditioner, then don’t wash again for 4 to 5 days. It will run slightly each time you wash it. If you have gray or white, it needs to be done once a month usually. Don’t make it runny. It should be thick but smooth, it may drip a bit, just wipe with a paper towel. I use natural red by the Henna Guys, but today I’m using auburn mixed with natural red which makes me nervous. My hair looks more red than hers, because it’s my natural color. Either way, people compliment it. If you have normally straight, non frizzy hair, it will stay like that. If you have my texture, you’ll still need products that fight frizz. It doesn’t take it away. I do feel like the products I use shorten the life of the henna, but I don’t want frizzy hair. If you use it for a while, you’ll get the hang of it. I forgot to mention that I use gloves and just slap some on each section and only do the roots. I’ve only ever done the whole head once. Use a comb with a tail to section hair. Don’t mix in metal bowls. Use glass and a spatula. That’s about all I can offer anyone from my own experience. Good luck!
@@milliem8051 yes, brighter than the rest but the color calms down after a day or two. Great video. I will say that henna doesn't HAVE to be an all day thing. I have been using henna for a decade. I make a year's worth of henna at a time and package and freeze it. Every third Friday when I leave for work I pop a frozen batch in the fridge to thaw. In the evening when I get home I shower and wash my hair. Apply henna to my roots, wrap in plastic. Then I have dinner and watch a movie. After two hours I rinse, condition and then brow dry. My hair grows so fast and I am so gray I have to do it every three weeks. So I have it down pat.

Woohoo!! Got super dark hair and have red henna on my head right now (local brand I believe the powder mix came already with hibiscus and some saffron I think) and I took a stretchy cotton scarf and tied it like a turban on my head (kinda like your beanie method) OVER the plastic wrap and it helps catch any drip on the back of my neck so I dont need to keep wiping there. When its time to wash. I recommend first wetting the back of your head for 2 minutes and then flipping your head and NO SHAMPOO. Found your same brand on iHerb and can't eait to try it !
Wow, it looks so much easier to do this with shorter hair! Mine is butt-length. I managed to get henna on the ceiling.... I actually used the plastic cover included in the Light Mountain package (light red) this last time instead of plastic wrap, and it is MUCH better and no drips! I pulled the slack to the front of my forehead, twisted it up like a towel turban, and secured it with a claw clip. It kept everything in place.
@@edoboleyn I hennaed my hair for about 2 years I think? I would absolutely recommend it. It’s better than switches that Apple cider vinegar pick us up bring some more of the red tones and lemon makes the hair very dry and you could also add Alevera gel onto your hair so I will leave it as dry
Interesting. I've been coloring my hair with henna for more that 10 years now and I've always done it on "dirty" hair. Plus, I've never wrapped it with anything. Instead I use my hairdryer and once it's dry, I get in the shower. 30 mins putting it on, 1 hour until drying and then washing it up. Always perfect hair for a month and plus.

I just bough the bright red Light Mountain and i loved it! Its organic and goes on like a dream! Some Henna's i find drying but this one was very moisturizing. I add Rose essential oil for the pretty scent and voila!
@@carrie8541 That sounds very interesting, but I have a question, can the oil interfere in some way in the colour absorption on the hair, or is it innoffensive?
@@mariaignacialeonor So far so good. Haven't had any issues with the color release by adding a bit of essential oil to the mix. I dont add alot to my mixture. Just hot distilled water...a few squirts of real lemon juice to bring out the red tones, and a dash of rose oil for smell...that's it.
The most perfect video about henna .. Thank u .. U r awesome with every way.. But only one thing as an half arabian and we r so so used to henna as a traditional .. Just ii know that it will b so hard to let it dry on head on air instead u cover it up .. But actually this is the right original way to let it be uncovered .. Henna it doesn't work as hair dye about heating although the chemical hair dye happens with oxidation process need to be done on air too .. Just henna is still a grass .. Let it dry uncovered will stain stronger and deeper watery don't achive stable color in henna.. Exactly as the drawing on skin with henna if u just leave it dry on air will works and if it still wet on skin it won't stick and will fade for sure .. And don't b afraid how harder it will be .. But it will b washed anyway .. Just patient anyway the whole henna taking 4 to 5 days to be perfectly done .. Just make them more six .. Not big deal 😆👯

awesome video, thank you so much for sharing your experience and the whole process! today I got the henna that I ordered and it'll be my first time dying my hair with henna, I've used box dye a lot and I really hate how it damages your hair but I don't want to miss out on red hair so henna should be perfect, I hope it shows up on my mid brown hair~
wolkenbruch so did it work? I want to try it too but I’m just hearing about this henna thing for the first time. I also have med brown to dark brown dyed hair
@@bayareababe yes it did work, more or less: I used "real henna" from khadi which was supposed to look reddish, but it turned out more of an orangy brown, which I still really like. it's definitely noticable but you shouldn't expect the exact same color that's on the box
I used this once years ago and never ever again. Yours is beautiful, I love it but mine came out a very weird rusty brassy color and I couldn't ever get rid of it, it took months so never ever again, I wish it wasn't like that because I love the idea that it's all natural and I don't think anything else is really natural, some may not be as bad as others but still not really natural. I would say that the next best thing to henna for being all natural is one called naturgin but I'm not totally sure even with that one.
Great video.. all that you say is true to life. The henna over dark hair gives it a nice color enhancement..the people with gray or light colors b careful and see other peoples hair after henna before you decide to start. Thanks for the important info👍🏼❤️👍🏼
Great video, finally all the information I needed! I have brown hair (a bit dark) and I am thinking of henna, but I am very worried that it will turn really red and I dont want that! I am aiming for exactly the color you have! I bought completely natural henna (red) and the instructions say use only lemon and leave the mix for 10 to 24 hours! And then exactly the process you did. So I am a bit confused on what to follow, and what to avoid if I dont way too red results
Personally, I have found lemon creates a much brighter red. Heat activates the henna color. If you don't use heat, you might need to wear it many, many hours, but I've never tried it that way. I always use warm or hot water to get the color process started before applying.
Your video was so so helpful. I have never ever colored my hair and wanted to try henna but had no idea where to begin. So now I'm gonna definitely do it. Thanks for posting.
Once the plastic shower cap is on you can speed up the process by blow drying for 5 to 10 mins and adding heat that way. I find it really intensifies the red tones by adding direct heat to my head.
It's speeds up the dye release. Makes the color more vibrant. Just bought the Light Mountain Bright Red for the first time and love it. I find it way less drying than other brands. (Even the Henna Sooq Red Raj which is supposedly the best.) I think i prefer the Light Mountain bright red. I prefer more Coppery tones to a wine red and i found the Henna Sooq too dark for me. I'm used to copper toned henna. Anyways very informative you covered it all and i enjoyed your video immensely. Thanks
At 21 I tried bleaching indigo out of my hair... if you like a grey blue stuck in your hair... my mum use to be a hairdresser and she tried everything. I was left with white hair (naturally a 4) with a dirty blue stuck on the lower parts. I'm 34 now. I am very careful when deciding to do something with Indigo. Also don't let Henna touch Vinyl Laminate floors
Hi!! Thank you for your video!!! I really just want a little tint of auburn. My hair is a medium brown color and I want a very subtle red. I'm guessing I would go with a red henna, but if it comes out too red after the 48hrs. Would I be able to re-henna with a brown henna to tone it down? Thank you!!
Yes, that would work out perfectly fine. If it's too bright, you can always go a little darker, but trying to go the other way around won't work, so it's best to gradually build it to what you want.
It didn't turn red for me, I guess my hair is too dark ... there are some reddish colors but mainly, it's still dark (black or dark black); but hair is shinny and soft.
I always thought the henna had to be hot-ish when applied. Is that true? Does anyone know? In this video it seems like the henna would have cooled off almost completely by the time it was applied. Thanks in advance for your input.
Nice, I've never tried it before but now that I have some grey I have to dye too often that my hair and scalp are dry and itchy. I'm interested in trying henna, love red hair. I have med/dark hair as well.
@@bayareababe I like how it turned out. My hair was dark brown so it didn't get as red looking as I thought it would but I've been told the more you do it the better it starts looking. So I plan to dye it again very soon! It looks very nice in the sun. It covered my greys, those spots are obviously a little brighter than the rest of my hair. I didn't like the color for the first few days. But around the 4th day it became a richer red, that I do like. Hoping it's even richer red the 2nd time I dye it!
Hi! Please help! I accidentally used a metal whisk to mix my henna together and just realized I wasn’t supposed to! Did I just ruin my dye or will it still work? I’m doing a strand test to check it out but what do you think? I have it in a plastic bowl but used the whisk to mix it
I've been using Lushs henna, it's not normally that vibrant and it doesnt cover any white hairs I have. I think I'm going to try this one out though and hope that it covers it more!
do you notice much of a difference between light mountains red vs their bright red? i have similar natural hair color to yours maybe even a little lighter and I'm trying to decide between the two
Pretty excited to give this a try! Ps can we talk about how adorable you are?! Haha love your personality, and you’re gorgeous! Thank you for this video! Excited to be able to NATURALLY take my hair from dark brown (almost black) to a reddish!
I'm so glad you liked the video! I'm sure you will love henna, it's so gorgeous and lasts so well. It is a long process compared to regular dyes, but it's totally worth it.
does it get more vibrant and lighter when you repeat the process? I dyed it with henna like 2 months ago and now I am planning to dye it again hopefully it will became lighter because last time it was a dark red which is only visible under the sun... fingers crossed
Hello, I have watched your video several times and have dyed my hair with the same henna! I do really like the color. It comes out more in the sun since I have dark brown hair. I am happy with my first try! I have noticed that each time I wash my hair, dye is left on the towel I use to wrap my hair. Is that normal? Does that mean the color is fading and coming out of my hair? Thank you in advance!
Ive only dyed my hair one time I have medium to light brown hair and I dyed it auburn..but the color lasted for like a month...does the color last longer with henna?
I've never used a box dye, only henna and henna/indigo mix. And they are vibrant and permanent. Henna/indigo just don't have the same shade range as box dyes, they only coat the hair, so you can't get a lighter shade than you already have.
I just applied Light Mountain Henna in Auburn to my hair 5 days ago & it came out darker than expected (more brown than red). Could I reapply the Light Mountain Red to see if it will give me a more reddish look or will it darken even more? Thanks
I've heard henna gets darker with each application, but I don't find that to be true with my own hair, but I usually only reapply every 3-6 months. You might want to do a spot test, just take a small section from the back of your head and test it out before committing to all of your hair.
Hi Tracy! Im trying to go the healthier way using henna and been curious, typical chemical hair dyes turn my hair darker than shown on the back of the box color chart. I would love to read more about what happened with your hair looking darker, who did you fixed it? Also just to consider a best color option from the light mountain color ranges :)

I'm glad you found it helpful!
Once the plastic shower cap is on you can speed up the process by blow drying for 5 to 10 mins and adding heat that way. I find it really intensifies the red tones by adding direct heat to my head.
Carolyn Great tip. I have tried that before.
Thanks
If I've previously used other "chemical" hair dyes is there something I have to do to prep my hair before using Henna?
I like your hair and the way you do your Make up
excellent info- thank you!
woow you have beautiful hair!!!
Also don't let Henna touch Vinyl Laminate floors
do you ask where do you buy your henna and does that henna color work well on dark hair?
Great video and she explained info very well👍🏽
Awesome red thx! I'm a light reddish brown but want a more vibrant look and natural too. Doesn't seem so scary now
Thank you for your advice! I apprieciate it!! just ordered some henna on Amazon... IM TAKING THE PLUNGE!! *nervous/excited face*
Thank you so much for this video🙌 Now i don't have to spend hours and hours looking for the right information and how to do it😂
You can apply coconut oil after washing henna from your hair and shampoo the next day. And you should completely dry your hair before applying oil.
It didn't turn red for me, I guess my hair is too dark ... there are some reddish colors but mainly, it's still dark (black or dark black); but hair is shinny and soft.
how does it look like in the sun?
How dark? I am a brunette (with reddish/golden tones in the sun) and i want to dye my hair with henna to have red/mahogany hair
I always thought the henna had to be hot-ish when applied. Is that true? Does anyone know? In this video it seems like the henna would have cooled off almost completely by the time it was applied. Thanks in advance for your input.
Its doesn’t have to be hot ish just normal room temperature
I think it's better applied when it's hot. So just keep boiling water in small henna amount
I've always used Lush Henna (for several years) so I'm excited to try this brand! Great video. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 😁🐨
Personally, I've found this to be a lot more intense color than Lush. It's easier to wash out too.
lainamarie91 That's great to hear. That stuff is a nightmare! I'm all for more vibrant colour tho! 😍
Good vid! Super cute hair color, suits you very well
Thanks so much :)
omg you are sooo pretty!! wow, and I love your personality 2
Nice, I've never tried it before but now that I have some grey I have to dye too often that my hair and scalp are dry and itchy. I'm interested in trying henna, love red hair. I have med/dark hair as well.
I bought it yesterday and had it sit overnight, putting it in this morning or early afternoon! Excited to see the results!
2jesusIbelong how did it turn out?
@@bayareababe I like how it turned out. My hair was dark brown so it didn't get as red looking as I thought it would but I've been told the more you do it the better it starts looking. So I plan to dye it again very soon! It looks very nice in the sun. It covered my greys, those spots are obviously a little brighter than the rest of my hair. I didn't like the color for the first few days. But around the 4th day it became a richer red, that I do like. Hoping it's even richer red the 2nd time I dye it!
Thank you so much for this info! It helped me choose a henna recipe and solidified my Light Mountain choice.
Your hair looks gorgeous by the by.
Aww thanks so much. I'm really glad it helped.
The hair need to be dry or it doesn’t matter ? Btw thank you for this video ☺️🙏
Thank you for this tutorial ! Just wondering, just this cover grays?
I used Lush when I first started applying henna to my hair and I think a regular old henna powder like Light Mountain makes a much more vibrant color.
do you notice much of a difference between light mountains red vs their bright red? i have similar natural hair color to yours maybe even a little lighter and I'm trying to decide between the two
I've used light mountain red. I have dark brown hair with some bleached parts and it came out like an orange copper color.
I read a comment of someone leave Hanna Resting before 24 hours then at her hair two hours!
Which exact colour/shade are you using from light mountain? Thank you x
Did u use a whole lemon or half? Thank you this is the most helpful video👍🏼
She use 1 - 2 tsp of packaged lemon juice. It wasn't fresh, but you could use fresh.
I haven't noticed any lightening in mine, but it does get more vibrant.
I could wring my hair out in the sink after a shower and it would have an orange tint for maybe a week, but I never noticed it staining anything.
Thank you 😊 very much 😄😄😄
What is the colour called that you have on your hair?
Link to your henna prod please!
Wow, awesome video!!! Thank you for explaining it with details!!! Plus wooooooow you are gorgeous!!!❤️ Did you do your eyebrows??
Have you had any hair loss?
Very good video
Ive only dyed my hair one time I have medium to light brown hair and I dyed it auburn..but the color lasted for like a month...does the color last longer with henna?
In my experience, henna is a permanent color.
Good work, keep it up👌
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Will share.💚
when you touch up your roots, do I have to use the entire box or can i use half the box
What's shade of red did you use? Love it
Super helpful! Thank you so much for the advice.
So henna works better than box hair dye? I've never tried it, but thinking about it.
I've never used a box dye, only henna and henna/indigo mix. And they are vibrant and permanent. Henna/indigo just don't have the same shade range as box dyes, they only coat the hair, so you can't get a lighter shade than you already have.
Thank u. Ur kind.
And did you sit Can you update please??
Love this! You look amaazing
Waiting2soar13 Thank you! 😁
One question, why don't you use Lush Caca anymore? Would I have to let Caca sit for an hour too?
Interesting, indigo is washing out so fast with me. Especially if I do coconut oil masks, within maximum 3 weeks, my hair is back to red!
If my hair is balayage right now will the henna dye the blonde one shade and the dark brown another? My hair is naturally dark brown.
Is the black henna hair dye more of a blue black/cool toned or is it more red toned or warm toned? Thankyou!
