for anyone wondering why this song just happens to suck every time he does it live there is a reason for it. It is a very challenging song to perform live with all the vocals and instruments.
I prefer this over to the ones where they did playback or the audio engineer over did the post mixing/master, I mean I personally watch a live performance video so I can get this amount of raw
No he didn't struggle... Peter rarely does the studio tracks they were on the record as that wouldn't allow his musicians to shine live. The studio version is the simplistic version for small pop minds
The band actually sounds great but the live recording is unbalanced thus you can't hear have the instruments. Plus the studio versions has a 1000 parts overdubbed and duplicated - he would have needed 15 band members to even come close
Any intermediate and above fan of Peter Gabriel acknowledges the genius of Tony Levin: he has a very storied career, even without Gabriel. Dude was an honorary member of Yes and also has history with the likes of King Crimson, among many other musical talents.
Just in time for Labor Day! Did your Mother incorporate any of Mr. Gabriel's Dance moves, into her "giving Birth, to Overnight Drive", delivery routine? My favorite, was/is the "Umbilical Cord Swing" (2:30-2:40) and the "Let Go Of My Leg, Baby" Lambada (2:48-2:58). The "Jump, Up and Down, With a Juvenile" Jive, was quite memorgabriel, as well, what with the lingering Dents, in the Head and all. Momgum Umbilical Cords have a hell of a recoil, on 'em. It pains me to Type the Letters, which follow the next ".", as there is a Dent, right on the "remembering Holidays" portion, of my Skull and it smarts, yet, lacks smarts, a bit. Happy Paperlate. Labor Day, that is. Remember "Dent My Head, Please." (Lita Ford.) I, do not.
Tony Levin; Genius on the bass with a drumstick
Yes it's true

The studio recording/video was fantastic. This one has limitations. Yeah you're right.

Yeah it sounds like a struggle....
And I think Peter was a bit tired here.

Peter needed a new spotlight operator
Oh dear God look at that sexy man dance.... Not only is he a genius, he can fucking dance... Truly what I need in my life, thank you Peter💙💙🤤

It's called "the 1980s extravaganza" 😎
No playback only real voice. Cool
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!
PETER GABRIEL IS A GENIUS FAULOUS ARTIST !!!!!!!
Records must be a drag.
Other than the TONS of vocal overdubs, including the descending figure at 2:15.
Poor spotlight operator :(
Can we acknowledge this bassist now
The rest of us have been acknowledging Tony Levin for 40 years. Where you been?
Tony is responsible for so many amazing bass lines

We already know who Tony Levin is. The drummer is the unrecognized one. Manu Katché deserves recognition.
@@bernlin2000 Tony Levin was not a part of Yes. Chris Squire was the bassist of Yes until his death in 2015. Tony was a part of King Crimson though.
so much larger than life
I was looking for a big time rush song and.....
This popped up ? 🤣
HAHAHA
big time genesis
Peter kicking ass in the US

He was so knackered he got his lyrics wrong, switching "God" and "Church"!

uckbee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I noticed they dropped the key a whole step or one and a half step when playing live now. Is it because F#min a difficult key to sing in?
Its too high for him
are there any higher quality versions of this recording?
NO !!!!!!
@ 🙄
👨🎤👨🎤👨🎤
They can't dance on stage. 5 years before Genesis :) !
😅 no he didn't dude. He did a live version that was spot on... different to the studio version
Peter Gabriel really messed up the vocals on this version.
Tired band, tired Peter.
Agreed. LOL.
