The fantastic New Jersey Motorsports Park Drivers Club is my second home.
My goal is to help jumpstart your first experiences on NJMP Thunderbolt race track.
I'm driving my 2011 Ford Mustang GT "Inferno" which ran a Roush supercharger on its Coyote 5.0 engine for four seasons.
I pulled the blower off at the end of 2015. I run naturally aspirated since the 2016 season started.
I'm faster without the supercharger which is crazy!
While the Roush is lots of fun, it has too much torque to put the power down on the road course.
Safety includes a Maximum Motorsports half cage with extra cross bracing, FIA seat, 6-point FIA harnesses, 2-piece rotors, and a driver who wants to live!
In the video, I am purposely driving on Direzza street tires to limit the traction to slide around as much as possible!

Great tutorial, thanks. Learned a lot of this while driving my 2003 Mustang @ Thunderbolt first time yesterday. Liked how you finally showed fast way around T5 (vs fun way)! To anyone headed there for the first time, this vid may be all you need to have a successful day. I'll be back here to review before going there again.

Chris Cosma thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate it. I was there yesterday with my STi. It was a lot of fun. The track was cold, which means I get to slid around a lot more 😁. Were you in a Mach 1 New Edge by any chance? I never have enough time to get around the whole paddock.

My car is an older GT. I had both green and yellow tech stickers, since my son and I were sharing the car. And, yes, it was nice and cold. I got to slide around in the Intermediate group on my worn all-weather tires.

Great work! nice to see some people who can actually drive this track.

+DasCayman thank you, much appreciated! NJMP are my "home tracks," but neither Lightning nor Thunderbolt is the most intuitive to learn. If this helps, it makes me happy.

Hey, Spencer, I'm back to your video to get ready for a run on Thunderbolt. My once-a-year track day is scheduled for the 16th, and I see you're on the list. I look forward to saying "thanks" in person. Hope the weather holds up! At least it will be a good horsepower day if it's ice-cold like last year.Transcribing your notes to a trackmap. One good thing I remember about T-bolt is that it's so fast that all I have to do is leave my 5-speed in 4th gear, jamb my left foot on the dead-pedal, and hold on. I've got plenty of torque in 4th gear to pull-out of any slow corner there, and my standard seat belts require a good grip on the wheel to stay in the seat thru the slowest (T-5 and T-10), but highest G-corners. That's funny. Happy Driving.

+Chris Cosma that's awesome! I look forward to seeing you. I'll be in my STi. I hope the weather holds out. Yup, minimize shifting and focus on the line and being smooth.

+David Verrecchia welcome to the crazy East Coast :-) NJMP has two awesome tracks, which is rare. Definitely try to get on both Thunderbolt and Lightning. They're very different from each other. Let me know how it goes. I'm always interested in fresh perspectives on tracks I think I know.

+Spencer Taylor Any recommendations for getting on the track for a DE day? I was dialed into the clubs/groups in Northern California. PCA is doing Pocono next, NJMSP is 63 miles from my house door to door.

David Verrecchia there's a lot of orgs that go to NJMP. Shoot me an email and I'd be happy to go into more detail. I can't put in an email address on RUclips, but you can reach me here: spencer-taylor.com/contact/

It's a great track, which is also challenging to learn and master.
