Protecting himself was a wise move. I think his dad saw thru the wife early on and made those suggestions. Now, she gets what she deserves, almost nothing.
Awesome idea; I've thought about it with my sociopath son. He only comes around when he wants something and it has broken my heart. I'm over it, but it might be a fun play for me to know.
Lock everything into a irrevocable trust, and get your will updated so he cant try and claim your stuff. I have a narcissist son also. He tried to demand I get a 2nd mortgage to bail him out of jail. I refused to pay his bail or help him. He told me to stay out his life. So i am. Not going to help him when he gets caught doing stupid crap. The rest of the family allowed him to do whatever he wantsd for 7 years and blameme for how he turned out. Im like how am i responsible, I haven't seen or spoken to him in years. Not my circus not my monkeys
Be sure you speak to an attorney: ironclad will, documents specifically excluding him from gaining POA/guardianship over you. Also get the best cameras, with sound, you can afford. Change passwords often. I’d even change the locks on your home.
@@Standinthegap4ever Agreed. Unfortunately, I have done all that His dad / my ex-husband keeps paying, but at some point that might change; I can only control my own actions
Putting the assets in his dads name is not wise, it just worked out for him so far. One thing is when he inherits his stuff back there are fees to pay, last taxes, the transferred value of the assets etc. Second is it should be in a holding company where shareholders control the assets and have a prenup signed before marriage that the entire holding company stays as op’s not marriage assets. Reason being is what if the father gets into an Anna Nicole smith situation with a gold digger new wife who takes control of the dad’s assets. Or a caretaker who encourages an old mentally unclear person to sign over assets. Then the son could lose all his stuff. Talk to lawyers about a holding account, you can do personal holding accounts, business holding accounts or family holding accounts, it’s well worth the conversation with a lawyer. Just saying. In this case so far it worked out for op but thats not always the case. A holding company and a prenup. Awesome stuff. Makes it easier to pass assets onto heirs as well,.. as you assign shares to them etc. There are a lot of benefits to doing it that way. Research it folks, then make decisions that work for you. Cheers. Note not a lawyer just speaking from experience.
A question, did the wife ever earn a salary from an outside job? She sounds like a dingbat with no plans on how to support herself. Being a "housewife" is not a stable occupation.
AITA for letting my wife think she’d get half, only to reveal the house isn’t mine?

Glad you're father thought with his brain.
