If he DID disqualify himself from becoming an elder statesman, he didn't do a good job of it - because an elder statesman is exactly what he became. 🇺🇲

    • @TheStockwell

No offense intended, but real historians wait for the dust to settle before attempting to say what happened - and what the legacy of any leader is.
Until then, it's just commentators and "seasoned experts" giving their opinions.
Our grandchildren will have a clearer idea of what the Bush and Clinton administrations actually accomplished. In fifty years, they'll be history.
It's taken half a century since Nixon's resignation for him to come into focus. It took that long for Kennedy to go from revered and admired to "not so much."
Disclaimer: I'm not a respected historian - I'm just another RUclips user who thinks he has it all figured out! 😸
      Best wishes from Vermont ❄️

@@johnsullivan6709 that and we require a two-thirds vote of the Senate to convict and remove the POTUS. These days (and for the past 25 years), votes like these go along party lines. Unless we have 67 senators from the other party, we will not be removing any president from office.

Put it this way: If either of the last two White House occupants had done the same thing, their partisan defenders would have continued to support them as long as it was politically beneficial. And only those who favored the opposing party would even care.

The MSM today doesn’t want to air any opinion that deviates from establishment orthodoxy, and there aren’t any figures today that transcend that dynamic. Add to that the fact that Clinton and Bush are both compromised in their own right, were never as capable as Nixon, and are younger than the current president, it’s clear that there just isn’t anyone of sufficient stature to bring us together.
