We were 100% self-sustaining, operating near the red every year due to the stadium debt and relying solely on CL money to keep us afloat. Keep in mind this was before the massive influx of tv money that the PL currently has. Clubs were getting nowhere near as much money from simply being in the league back then as they are now.
