Anyone who loves oldschool yugioh here ? Edit: wow that's my most liked youtube comment ! Thank you guys ! I noticed that after a year. That's the heart of the cards !
. . extra linking isn't that complicated, anyways Mimikyu 351 you can play some extremely simplified decks in terms of how they utilize the extra & they're some of the best decks right now, such as Sky Striker & Altergeist, or old decks such as Burning Abyss with Links added or a newer deck like True Draco that doesn't even use the extra at all though those are more rogue they still can top events, there's also the classics like stun & chain burn that play much the same though stun has a ton of new tools in traps & monsters. You could even go with something like Hand Trap Artifact Trickstar for a new twist on an old concept which is sound playing with minimal Link combos.
"play extremely simplified decks like sky strikers and altergeist". Fucking kidding me. Yeah I know, "in terms of extra deck" but playing decks that are not budget and the antithesis of helmet is defeating the point of "simplified".
@@problemseyes7126 but it didn't solve that since any decent deck would run links monster. Although most returning players might disagree with me, I think this new generation of Yu-Gi-Oh! is amazing. I love the fact the game is so complex. All of the summoning mechanics have brought different and better decks. Synchro, Link, Pendulum, XYZ, Ritual, and Fusion Monsters have changed the completely, and the changes are amazing, bringing different, better and harder decks to compete with.
I hate that they changed the playing field tho. They spot for special summoned monsters I don't like but can live with. The new pendulum spots are stupid tho. Honestly, the entire mechanic is stupid. Tho I don't play YuGiOh, I can't imagine anything more discouraging than an opponent summoning 5 monsters in one turn because of that mechanic.
As somebody that dropped out of Yu-Gi-Oh! towards the latter portion of the synchro era, I’m so glad to see that a mechanic was put in place to balance extra deck monsters, particularly Synchros. I remembered seeing decks like X-Sabers that could pretty consistently pull out 1-2 (sometimes 3) synchros on the first turn with 2000+ ATK and some pretty broken effects. Any mechanic that allows you to (without needing to necessarily be lucky) pull out that much field power on turn one just seems like turning Power Creep into Power Running to the Port-a-Potty with Chili Festival Shits. But then again I understand that having big monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh! isnt really that important anymore

Thank the high heavens for this video! Ever since Link summons became a thing and the board layout changed, Yu-Gi-Oh turned my mind into goo. Now I can play again..... Lol.
Hey Cimo, just discovered your channel and watched your how to play YGO series. I haven't played since 2005ish (and 9 years old) and am now getting back into it and preparing to play competitively. There's quite a learning curve what with all the new kinds of monsters and summoning mechanics, as well as the vast number of archetypes and strategies. This series helped me out a lot, so thank you. Though I probably still won't utilize the new monsters until I figure out how to incorporate them into a deck strategy and learn through losing to them, I'm sure. I think it would be a great benefit to your channel and a lot of new players to make a How To Play Yu-Gi-Oh in 2020 video and instead of briefly addressing the mechanics, go in depth with the very helpful visual examples, and make an hour long video if it has to be that long. Also, I recommend a deckbuilding video for new or returning players as I've scoured youtube and haven't found very good resources for that personally. If you or anyone else reading this has any suggestions for a video or channel that goes in depth on deckbuilding, I'd very much appreciate a link of the URL variety. Thanks again for these how to videos! The new rule on no first turn draws blew my mind.
After watching this I decided to stick with the old format... No link summoning No synchro No XYZ One player plays a field spell Tribute summoning Ritual summoning... Yeah
I came here because I used to watch your videos all the time. I had unsubbed from you around 2-3 years ago because I stopped playing Yugioh for good. I had the noatalgia bug hit me and wanted to see what state the game is in now. I came to you first because I remember the high quality content you used to make and I wanted to let you know you did not dissapoint. Your content is just as clean and professionally done as I remember, excellent work explaining everything! With that said, I'm not coming back to Yugioh. The game has juat changed too much for my taste. The pendulum summoning(prior to the rule changes) really took a toll on how much fun I could have with the game and link aummoning made me quit. I miss what the game used to be.
I haven't played the card game in such a long time (most recent summoning mechanic I know is Synchros), so this was very informative and well made for someone like me. As someone who is clueless about the rest: XYZs seem very cool, Pendulums look like a mess, and I'm not sure how to feel about Links but limiting the extra deck summoning and trying to unlock more spaces seems interesting. But I think I'm gonna stick to Duel Links for YGO and wait for that to update with these mechanics lol. Looking forward to XYZs at least.
That might be a problem due to some of the Xyz monsters requires Four or more monsters for the materials unless they have an effect lik Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss where you can use the Number 32: Shark Drake to bring out Number C32 and Number 36 and it's overlay units as well.

Just watched your video for the second time. My god this sounds like a complete cluster f...! I’m one of the old school players I got out just after XYZ’s were released. It sounds so complicated these days, I do appreciate for how it is played now.
I just started playing again after 13 years, and it's far more affordable now than it was back in 2001-2006ish. At least now starter/structure decks can actually be viable. If you plan on going to giant tournaments, then sure, you're probably going to need to spend a few hundred to win. But, if you're just playing with friends or going to a small local tournament (depending where you live) you can easily make a really good deck for ~$40.
Oh my God thank you so much! I just picked up the starter link deck and was curious on how to play with the new rules. I stopped playing after Synchro came because it felt like too much. This has definitely helped me, you earned the like and sub.
you forgot fusion spells now fuse from the deck and ritual monsters have effects in the hand and ritual spells have effects in the grave. Also tokens are broken now, traps are bad and every single monster can search, destroy or float. Also if you stop your opponent from special summoning or searching, during the end phase you can add 5 pieces of exodia to your hand.
Well, since Konami owns the game their definition is always the "real" yugioh. Also If you want to play 2002 La Jinn beatdown, you can do that. Just not against anything released since like 2004 and after.
Oh my god... Why? I played the game in 2003, one of the best memories of my childhood, but now, I'm really not wanting to returning to it. Is there a format that works like the old game?
make this into a series : how to play yugioh talk about timing, missing timing, when you can chain effects and when they resolve. talk about priority, grammar in the cards, once per turns and hard once per turns etc... i think it will be very informative for everyone even veteran players!
I used to religiously play this game on DN. I didn’t have a car or any money really at the time to invest in a top tier deck so it got me by. I went from using MST to negate to understanding chaining and what misses timing when. I was a confident duelist back in 2015 when IT WAS FUN! yugioh has took a very dramatic change for the worse.. and now I don’t even know where to begin
saying ring of destruction isn't good, yet with so many smaller monsters being put on the field to climb up link ladders taking out 1 key monster to halt a strategy is kinda worth the hit to the lp.
Last time I really was into Yugioh was around early 2015 I believe? It was when Lightsworn was pretty new maybe 1 or 2 months old and that’s what I ran at the time. It’s so crazy now. Felice the lightsworn archer used to be a 10 dollar card, now it’s $1.00. I built a strong lightsworn deck and quit playing after my buddy died and the rest of us just stopped playing, After about a 5 year hiatus I have finally started looking around and this game has changed so much. Lightsworn isn’t even a thing anymore. Crazy.
To trade, or not to trade? Once upon a time, there was a teenager card collector who has alot of money to collect them all. He came to an old card shop and found a card that he really wanted. The owner were an old man. The teenager offer him a suitcase full of his rarest collection to trade with that card, but the owner refused. Needless to say that the teenager's upset. Days later, the teenager abducted the old man and tortured him to submission, taking the long-desired card he longed since he begin his cards collecting journey. Corrupted by his greed, he ripped the said card, the last card of the only 4 in the world. Because he knew the value. Because he knew, how horrible it will be to face one as his opponent. But then guess what? Years later, the teenager become the best duelist in the world, second only to the grandchild of the card shop owner. If only the card shop owner accepted the trade in the first place, none of this would have happen. The old man would plusses so much from that trade, and the boy would be more than happy to own that card! But then, the journey would never started. The boy would never become the duelist known by the world by his power and teached the next generation of duelist through academy he founded years later. Moral of the story: Life will found it's way. Journeys and adventures begins from a decision, no matter which you take, it will be priceless experience, or you could call it, a *GOLDEN EXPERIENCE* .
Thank you! The Pendullums actually stuck. But I'm gonna have to keep coming back, and study every part of the new ways to play with your video and maybe even more videos as well. I've been thinking about actually dueling in local tourney's in my city. Good way to get packs on top of card budget.
Thank you Cimoooo! I'm going to my locals for the first time ever today, and I really haven't played since the beginning of the game. Pretty nervous, hoping people will take it kinda easy on me, but I'm hoping for the best!
ugh , if that was all it was it wouldn't be so bad , people have learn't that when they play or play vs grindy decks, win game 1 & lose game 2, if they do everything possible(legally) to slow down game 2 they can be the only person with a battle phase game 3, there's all sorts of dumb timer optimizations like that that just make tournament experience rn a bad representation of an ideal competitive frame of the game, eh, wtv ig

My friend and I have picked the game back up after not playing for years. I stopped playing right as synchro summoning came about, and it all seemed pretty intimidating, but it's still quite straightforward! I love these new mechanics!
Cimoooooooo you forget to tell us what pot of greed does! HOW COULD YOU FORSAKEN THE RETURNING PLAYERS!
And he never told us whether MST negates.
Ri stop with the cringy jokes, they’re just old and boring
Joykiller
Andrew Fishman yes and no, it’s a common misconception due to if you use it at specific times you can stop an effect from happening without negating
Dark Star Gaming - LOL, thanks. I will keep it in mind ;)
Thank the high heavens for this video! Ever since Link summons became a thing and the board layout changed, Yu-Gi-Oh turned my mind into goo. Now I can play again..... Lol.
It seems there is a heavy amount of combo decks nowadays. It's kind of daunting trying to get into the game.
No link summoning
No synchro
No XYZ
One player plays a field spell
Tribute summoning
Ritual summoning...
Yeah
didnt you forget fusion monsters?
Great video man really appreciate it. Left the game just when the xyzs were introduced and can’t wait to get back into it after this. Thanks again

4= Cards Usually Have Longer Texts and or Complicated Effects and or Requirements to Activate those Effects
5= Official Torments Have Time Limits Now and in an Event of Ties or Draws the one with the Highest LP Wins
6= And Finally= There are Special Traps now Called “Hand Traps” Basically Trap Cards you Activate from well....your Hand...Pretty Self Explanatory
Bonus= No One Just Buy One Pack and be satisfied with that anymore, everyone Buys Multiple Packs of the same Pack just to see if they get the Best Cards from it and as for everything else... Basically who cares mind as well Trash. And while on the Subject Cards that where $120 a Piece Back in the Day are Easer to Obtain but they or at least most of them are in Common
Bonus 2= It is usually Costumery to Not Only Declare what Phase you are on but also on what you are about to do Currently like for example if what to Attack or are Discarding a Card to activate an X Effect
Bonus 3= Buying and Trading and Selling Cards Now a Days is like Buying Trading and Selling Stocks the Value is Constantly Changing.
Bonus 4= And Finally= The Best Chances of you Winning is to Keep Up with the Best Decks and the Top Decks and do your very Best to Copy or even Improve Upon that X Best Deck.
Windson Ma why isn’t this highlighted by cimo
Just watched your video for the second time. My god this sounds like a complete cluster f...! I’m one of the old school players I got out just after XYZ’s were released. It sounds so complicated these days, I do appreciate for how it is played now.
How To play: release its too expensive and frustrating to play then get a different hobby
I just build Gundam instead of playing Yu-Gi-Oh as a hobby
I straight up thought this was about to be a meme
you forgot fusion spells now fuse from the deck and ritual monsters have effects in the hand and ritual spells have effects in the grave. Also tokens are broken now, traps are bad and every single monster can search, destroy or float. Also if you stop your opponent from special summoning or searching, during the end phase you can add 5 pieces of exodia to your hand.
BUT...old school yugioh well ALWAYS be true yugioh..RIP Real Yugioh..😞
Well, since Konami owns the game their definition is always the "real" yugioh. Also If you want to play 2002 La Jinn beatdown, you can do that. Just not against anything released since like 2004 and after.
Stopped when XYZ where still the new thing, so thank you for the explanation, saw a match and I did not recognize the game ahahah
Oh my god... Why? I played the game in 2003, one of the best memories of my childhood, but now, I'm really not wanting to returning to it. Is there a format that works like the old game?
Professor Oak Check out Speed Duels, it’s basically classic Yugioh but with a few twists.
@@beginnertoend310 Thanks. Gonna check it out.
I mean the game has gone for its best especially after mr5 it’s just the fans are boomers that can’t play an easy game
make this into a series : how to play yugioh
talk about timing, missing timing, when you can chain effects and when they resolve.
talk about priority, grammar in the cards, once per turns and hard once per turns etc... i think it will be very informative for everyone even veteran players!
When you only play duel links 😅😅😅😅
I used to religiously play this game on DN. I didn’t have a car or any money really at the time to invest in a top tier deck so it got me by. I went from using MST to negate to understanding chaining and what misses timing when. I was a confident duelist back in 2015 when IT WAS FUN! yugioh has took a very dramatic change for the worse.. and now I don’t even know where to begin
saying ring of destruction isn't good, yet with so many smaller monsters being put on the field to climb up link ladders taking out 1 key monster to halt a strategy is kinda worth the hit to the lp.
If that's your goal then something like bottomless trap hole might work better
Solemn Strike is literally that but infinitely more foolproof
bth only hits 1500 or more attack
Moral of the story:
Life will found it's way.

Let's get up to speed in Yu-Gi-Oh 2019!
Thank you Cimoooo! I'm going to my locals for the first time ever today, and I really haven't played since the beginning of the game. Pretty nervous, hoping people will take it kinda easy on me, but I'm hoping for the best!
How to play yugioh in 2019: learn an effective strategy for when time gets called on the round that isn't your battle phase
ugh , if that was all it was it wouldn't be so bad , people have learn't that when they play or play vs grindy decks, win game 1 & lose game 2, if they do everything possible(legally) to slow down game 2 they can be the only person with a battle phase game 3, there's all sorts of dumb timer optimizations like that that just make tournament experience rn a bad representation of an ideal competitive frame of the game, eh, wtv ig
How to play yugioh in 2019: hack the game (online play, of course) and limit both players to one or two special summons per turn (including xyz, fusion, synchro and link).
Blue eyes spirit dragon does what you said
@@giannispapakrivopoulos5455 it actually doesn't do that at all it prevents two or more monsters from being summoned at once.
i could definitely show this videos to a couple of people at my locals...
How to play it now?
Just do the same mind numbing FTK combo and hope to go first.
Also either go for dem tier 1 decks , or go home.
Rogue's not dead quite yet.
there are no tier 1 OTK decks atm, Chaos Thunder Dragon sometimes can but often won't , same for Danger Dark Warrior though they're at least a little more likely to be able to
Tom Rivers - Um, what? Meta has always existed.
Saaure becuase a meta with like 20+ of the same cards for aummoned skull/jinzo turbo was soooooo diverse
Wait... How do you OTK going first lmao...
Thanks for this bud! Helped me get back into Yu-Gi-Oh after all these years! N I'm not even that far from ya I'm about halfway between Vegas and Reno!
How to play Yu-gi-oh in 2019- summon a million monsters a turn or wait 30 minutes wile opponent does it. i quit the minute plenums came out. This game is dead to me now and its sad because i loved this game and play for at least 12 years. its just too fast, complicated, over powered and unfun now.
Tell me about it
You can always play MTG
No thanks ill pass......................................................
@@thenewstuffsucks5000 lol. Why not?
cuz magic is gay
Dude i never write comments, but hell yeah your video was informative! Gonna buy me a deck tomorrow ! Starting like you said at the beginning of the video, back in the "normal" times of yu gi ho xD back when Synchro was something u did when u updated your Iphone hahaha ^^ keep it up !
When u refuse to use link summoning
Thx Cimoooooooo i share this video on dueling book. for the people who say i started playing during synchro XD
Ban all effect monsters
Vanilla only 😂😂😂😂💀💀💀💀💀
Old school Yu-Gi-Oh were you can summon high level monster are the best to play
Bj Astronomia old school yu gi oh where blue eyes white dragon dominated
I rather have Links Banned.
When effect monsters actually mattered and had good effects. Now every damn monster is a special snowflake, but doesn't have that sweet ass vanilla lore in it's description that made each card interesting. now the cards are just nothings that are used for their effects, just a complicated math game, and each card picture is as disposeable as (insert cool looking anime looking thing here" that you know fuck all about.
Spook13Jayy u mean that boring time when all you fucking did was say”OmG yUgI I aTtAcK YoU with FuCkInG BlUe EYeS sHiT dRaGon” to win the game I like the game now because it’s interesting and I like hard and complicated stuff I feel excited when I’m about to face a deck I don’t know about unlike before where every card was a normal fucking card it feels satisfying to pull off a hard summon or a good combo and then destroy your opponent
Wow so much has changed! Great video, helped me catch up after all these years
Step 1: buy the new bakugan game
Step 2: have fun.
Conor Murphy lol
😂😂 u are so right dude , I thinking of buying a bakugan
Bakugan is ass
Fantastic video. I'm gonna show to some friends of mine to see if they fell excited to play again
Not sure why this video is 13 minutes long. The way to win at yugioh is to go first. The way to lose yugioh is to go second.

You first try to make a board out of 0-2 cards, play without searching or get out resourced by a waifu deck. If this does not happen you get FTKed or have to pant around a billion negates or a extra link.
Seems pretty good right? :kappa
I love making a board out of zero cards THAT'S MY FAVORITE ONE
@@ShuraEssays you make a board out of zero cards because gumblar just took our entire hand lol that's the scoop phase

I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh when XYZ monsters came out and I got more in depth into the game and it was really simple back then. I am still trying to fully understand Link and Pendulum Summoning.
