  • Testing the strength of the LOCK-N-STITCH C3 CASTMASTER crack repair stitching pin threads. This destructive test is one way LOCK-N-STITCH measures the strength of their products to determine the ultimate strength of their metal stitching repairs in cast iron. This process does not involve welding to hold the two pieces together.

    which bit broke? are you suggesting two smooth blocks of metal can be fastened with the castmaster screws?

      @Alex Phillips Actually YES, they are. Has to do with special tap, thread angles, and counterbore geometry that pull sides together. Can't see the pin & tap thread angle details in video.

      The pins use a patented hook thread with a negative 20-degree pressure angle on the top side of the threads. The shoulder above the threads has an opposing negative 30-degree hook angle under it.
      When the shoulder seats into its counterbore, the pressure angle of the pin comes into contact with the matching pressure angle on the underside of the tapered hole. As the stitching pin is torqued, a radial drawing force is created, pulling the two sides of the joint together.
