Great video as always. Straightforward and informative. We live in Va. but spend time in your beautiful area every summer, truck camping our way to some awesome places! Thanks
Great video! It's interesting seeing in-city property price comparisons. We were looking at Kila / Marion outside of Kalispell and Spirit Lake / Sagle / Priest River outside of Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint. It looks like the numbers flip, with like properties in rural ID being about 10% less than MT, possibly even more when you compare like-to-like of property size, home size, building age, finishes, etc. With the homes on our shortlist, it seemed like acreage lots (5+) carried a significant premium on the MT side when we were looking. If one treats the Bitterroot as sort of the Bonner's Ferry / Priest River equivalent, we were seeing a similar pattern.
Thank you Will for mentioning the eastern oregon joining Idaho movement. As a southeastern Idahoan I have seen this movement grew from the beginning. I agree with you they have a hurdle to go through with th US congress before anything happens. So far Idaho politicians had greenlighted the movement and is waiting to talk to oregon politicians on a state level.
I accidentally posted my response to your video to another comment below. I just wanted to let you know Montana Income Tax is adjusting in 2024, being reduced to 5.9% , making another plus for Montana vs Idaho.
Great video. Ive been oscillating between Montana and Idaho for over a year and this made it easy to decide on Montana. Keep the videos coming, ill contact you when im ready to move.
Vehicle license I believe is much higher in MT vs. ID. Also, MT legislature = biennial vs. ID is annual and ID has 6% grocery tax. Great vid Will, thank you!
I think you're a little off on your assessment of the politics of the Treasure Valley. It''s true that Boise is pretty liberal in comparison to the rest of the state. But the surrounding cities of Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell are still very conservative. They more than make up for any Democrat votes that Boise might cast.
I lived in western Washington for almost 40 years and in King County for over 20 and can tell you that what you posted above is not in any way true. What IS true is that the higher population of western Washington does dominate as blue, which angers and annoys voters in eastern Washington, who tend to be much more conservative in their political views. Given that almost 70% of Washington State's voting population reside in western Washington, they do indeed make Washington a blue state and it has been consistently dark blue for many decades. The state hasn't had a Republican governor since John Spellman, who left office in 1985, and both the state Senate and state House of Representatives have been also consistently Democrat dominated since before Spellman was governor. If you take the time to look back over the voting records of each Washington State county over the past 40-50 years, you'll find that ALL the counties of western Washington have usually voted blue, while all the counties of eastern Washington have usually voted red. As a long time Washington State resident, who loves my home state deeply, I sincerely sympathize with the eastern state voters who feel so powerless to influence their state's government due to their lack of population. But our democracy is built fundamentally on the will of ALL the people and as such, areas of population density will always have more influence over government than areas of low population density. It's not just King County, it's pretty much all of western Washington. That's why so many folks in eastern Washington want to secede from the state and become a state of their own. And all I can say is, good luck with that. That idea has been floating around without gaining serious traction since the 70's.
Thank you for pointing out the issue with Eastern Oregon and Idaho. While I can understand the frustration of people in Eastern Oregon, joining Idaho wouldn't make much of a difference if Boise continues to grow and its politics end up dominating Idaho. As someone from the Eastern US, one thing I've noticed about the Western states is that they're often dominated, politically, by one county because that's where most of the people live. Populations aren't quite as spread out as they are over here in the East.
If I'm not mistaken I'm sure I've read that the current population of Boise is staying about even or maybe even shrinking a little while the surrounding cities are growing fast in population. If this is true it's unlikely Boise will dominate the vote like Portland does in OR anytime soon.
Amen… the more reasonable calm folks the better. Let the ballot decide. I am a bit off put by the huge amount of out of state money that went to Idaho’s primary elections. Lotta hate up North.
Iowa updated their retirement tax laws back in 2023. Their changes made them a desirable retirement location for retirees. Florida is so expensive for retirees
Amen live let live I was basically raised in Montana. We serviced the whole state and I’m still amazed and I have two brothers that still live in Montana. Why am Great Falls and One Northeast of Missoula and it’s still as it was back then and its core. I’m proud for that. Thank you for showing us this video, we really appreciate your videos Montana Strong, Idaho. I have nothing good to say it has always been a juggernaut a BS. Even though my oldest grandson lives in Idaho, it’s my profound wish that he escapes.
Generally you can choose between not being able to afford housing and having a good paying job or affordable housing and low paying jobs, but in Montana you get low paying job and unaffordable housing. We have one of the highest percentages of alcoholics in the nation and worst weather ,. And it's not the number of days per year that it is not above 45 degrees outside, it's the number of hours per year that it's below 45, while the high might be 55 degrees for the day, it's 15 when you wake up and only reach above 45 for a couple hour before the sun sets early cause there is only 6 hours of daylight in the winter. So if you enjoy being outside or watching the sun set it will be too cold most of the year, so people drink because they are to broke to leave. We had the 45 the worst economy but a bunch of Uber rich people moved here but it through off the average and just made the poor poorer
ID has never been as red as people think it is. It has very strong EPA & wildlife laws, heavy handed law enforcement, hell the speed limit for I90 is 55 mph most of the way across ID, all the things you see in WA. Montana is hard to explain the politics, we have pockets of purple & blue mainly in the westside of the state & reservations, but our laws are very conservative, our EPA & wildlife regulation are also very conservative & our law enforcement isn't really that heavy handed. Most of us look at government as a necessary evil, that needs to be strongly handcuffed, specially after covid crap. That being said, we have a lot of tree huggers that go around causing problems every time someone wants to cut a tree down, build something, hunt or fish, extra. But overall MT is pro firearms, pro religion, pro parents, pro property rights, pro individual inalienable rights. if I had to chose 1 word to describe MT, Constitutionalist
Montana is very liberal compared to Idaho. I hate the way Montana lets a small property owner lock out people from many of the federal lands it does have.
Great video! The best thing about Idaho is the weather compared to Montana. Idaho is RED to a fault. There is in-fighting in the Republican Party which makes state governance very dysfunctional. Idaho is a good old boy state….
Unfortunately, not all the people who are fleeing Commiefornia are conservatives. Liberals are fleeing too and bringing their politics, which has helped contribute to the decline of the once Golden State, with them. This is why Boise is sometimes referred to as Boisangeles.
Unfortunately Missoula is ranked #6 in the 10 worst drug cities in the USA. I'll bet you can blame that on being a college/colleges town. So much for higher learning. Oregon suffers from that a lot a Univ. or College in your town is not such a good thing as it turns out and Helena is about as woke as it gets, been there and it has a SF Cal. vibe to it which I don't personally consider that a good thing. I love Montana but it ain't perfect either.
Please check out Idaho’s recent primary elections. Large amounts of out of state money elected far far right. Born and raised Idaho. Going to Montana. Idaho has gone not just crazy…mean. Cecil and Frank will be rolling in their graves. Sad.
If you're a liberal thinking of moving to Montana, Portland Oregon or Cuba is a much better choice for you.
Absolutely!!! Stay out of Idaho and Montana. Liberals not welcome!!!
Montana is very reasonable for liberals.
Is that Ted Kasinkis place?
Lmao, ok boomer
100 %
We chose Coeur d'Alene over Kalispell because the winters are milder.
So local politics like white hate groups did not affect your choice?
Thanks for sharing this. Can you do a comparison between Montana and Wyoming, and Montana and North Dakota? Cheers, Will!
Just so you know. Every time you make one of these videos, you in fact raise cost of living for both states. Thanks for that.
Right?! Stay in California please.
i love the videos you make they are so interesting and informational
Glad you think so!

I would love to leave Montana to move back to my hometown I never grew up in sadly 😢
Thank you so much for your videos !
Glad you like them!
I will love to visit both state to enjoy fresh air, lake etc.. not to mention FOOD... yum.. nice video guy. Blessed..
I live in Idaho, and I can't stand even having a purple state next to me. Missoula is worse than dog vomit. Something needs to be done.
What's it like in Missoula?
….about dog vomit? Problem in Montana is it?
R u restarted?
Like what should be done?
Very interesting comparison, I have wondered real estate differences between the two states. Great video!
I accidentally posted my response to your video to another comment below. I just wanted to let you know Montana Income Tax is adjusting in 2024, being reduced to 5.9% , making another plus for Montana vs Idaho.
Idaho is reducing theirs as well. They also do not tax SS or government/military pensions .
Only to add sales tax
Great video. Ive been oscillating between Montana and Idaho for over a year and this made it easy to decide on Montana. Keep the videos coming, ill contact you when im ready to move.
Oscillating?
Vehicle license I believe is much higher in MT vs. ID. Also, MT legislature = biennial vs. ID is annual and ID has 6% grocery tax. Great vid Will, thank you!
It cost me $400 per year just to RENEW license tag each year!!! Very expensive living here in Montana.
Very interesting!!! Great video!
Thank you!

Exactly. Boise is a little blue island in a sea of red.
Great video! Just a quick fact check for you. Montana state income tax is being reduced to 5.9%, effective for the 2024 tax year.
@@Jonny-he8hv
But they are also one of ten who still tax Social Security as well as Military Pensions!
Ah the land of Frank Church and Cecil Andrus. God’s country.
Just like in Washington state king county which encompasses Seattle runs the state which if it wasn’t for king county it would be a red state

Western Washington is also full of people wanting the government to do everything for them lol@@loragunning5394
So why does everyone choose to live in King County?
Great video! Appreciate your time in this.

Most of the people moving into Boise these days are conservative. I don't think the demonrat mayor there will make it past the next election.
Amen… the more reasonable calm folks the better. Let the ballot decide. I am a bit off put by the huge amount of out of state money that went to Idaho’s primary elections. Lotta hate up North.
Many reasonable and calm folks are in the greater Boise area. The truly hard core haters tend to go north.
The same thing that happened to Montana is now happening to Idaho. Many families, some over 100 years here, after losing their homes. 😢
Great video thank you
You should do an Alaska vs Montana video!
Which one has MORE SNOW?
Can you go over taxes on small farms in both states? 25-100 acres?
If you think property tax is high in either state, a 600k home in iowa will set you back 13k. But the state no longer taxes ss or pensions.
Iowa updated their retirement tax laws back in 2023. Their changes made them a desirable retirement location for retirees. Florida is so expensive for retirees
How much is the property tax in both states?
Were thinking of moving to Montana and not Idaho because they have Medical and recreational MJ
This repeats your earlier Idaho v Montana videos.
If this keeps up half of us will be living in vans by the river.
Montana taxes your retirement income including social security. Do not retire there.
Wow, and just read they also tax Military Pensions!
The entire country operates on mafia tactics. There's is no "freedom" in America unless you also believe in Santa Claus
Someone else just said they do NOT tax SS!
Wyoming 👍
Don't worry most of you will own nothing and be happy within the next decade. There's no stopping property tax and insurance increases
I love how none of these people want to live on the east side of the Rockies!
Too expensive for the regular people.😢

I’ve seen that as well

Which lands specifically are you referring to?
Interesting. To me it seems the other way around.
Dam Purple people are flooding into Boise.
Its very Sad to see
Idaho voted 63% Trump in 2016 , then 67% Trump in 2020 .
It does disturb me that just slightly south of Choteau there is still two ICBM sites. That’s not a good thought. I dearly love that town.
Move to Montana. Idaho is pretty sick of transplants. Or better yet, stay in your current state.
Lil nigga doesn't know how America works 😮
