This was a homecoming show for Turnover, considering they're from the city next door, Virginia Beach. Turnover are our area's Run for Cover band and have done quite well for themselves. If there was a show that would end my filming run for the year, it's only appropriate that it end locally with one of our own.
I recorded Turnover from the balcony, similar to my favorite spot to record at the 9:30 Club, but on the left side of the venue. I shot wide so I could get the whole stage in view. The band played while images were projected on a screen behind them while an array of colors swirled on stage. It was mostly dark and my phone did what it could to capture decent video. I know my phone's issues with low-light situations and there's only so much I can do about it. My goal at this point was to keep recording and continue until the end.
I wasn't even worried about the sound. My binaural mics were positioned so I scored sound from the hanging P.A. speakers. Listening to the video, I was pleased with the end result. I have to keep telling myself this is a fan-shot video and not to expect soundboard quality.
The band played 17 songs, give or take one I might have missed while counting in my head! The band went straight through with banter inbetween songs. There was no encore though the audience wanted one badly. I knew there wasn't going to be one because online setlists listed the lack of one! It's like having my own crystal ball--I love it!
Anyhoo, this is it. I hope you enjoyed my video journey and I'll be starting a blog where all my banter will be centered. The RUclips comments will focus on the technical stuff so I can freely express myself without a character limit! What does that mean? Expect short RUclips comments and endless written meanderings on the blog. Don't worry, I'll post a link in the new year's videos!
