  • On 11 May, Fairtrade organized the cocoa producers summit on living income in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. ✨🌎
This allowed cocoa farmers and workers from Ghana and Ivory Coast to share their perspectives, personal stories, and challenges they’ve faced in achieving a living income.
Important topics like diversification, women empowerment, accessible credit, and strategies to motivate youth to join the cocoa sector were discussed with key decision makers and industry leaders to spark dialogue and come up with solutions to make living income a reality in this sector.
Here are some key takeaways from the event:
👩‍🌾 Human rights and environmental due diligence without living income being addressed isn’t acceptable for farmers and workers.
💡 The national Initiatives for Sustainable Cocoa in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, and France are striving to include farmer and worker voices more strongly in discussions.
🌱 Policymakers plan to include living income and responsible purchasing practices as an integral part of policies on responsible business conduct to achieve sustainability in the cocoa sector.
In the spirit of collaboration, let’s continue to work together towards a future where no cocoa farmer is left behind and all receive a living income. 🍫
