I tow my Eriba Troll caravan with my EV6 and it is a brilliant combination. Eriba caravans are a dream to tow and match made in heaven for towing with an EV. Aerodynamics has a more impact on range than weight. I can comfortable get 160 miles and 200 miles in summer.
Great review You can tow a caravan with any car depending how big the caravan is. If you are travelling short distances (say 100km) you can scrape thru but not in Australia where you can travel at least 400km in one day without a major town with a 2T caravan let alone an electric charger. The biggest problem with EVs, they are at least 10 years from better development in battery technology. My honest opinion, if you want to tow without the worry of range or charger, don't depend on the EV, Diesel is the best option. Unfortunately, the manufacturers are under pressure to produce EVs only because the politicians are forcing them to do so, not because they want to, this is the reality.
Sure, it's not possible all the time but its crucial we all switch to EVs eventually.. Let's pick the low hanging fruit first and battle the edge cases in time. Thanks for the comment!
Sorry to say but non of these are realistic towing machines, I expect 500 miles and easy refil - the EVs are hideously expensive and do not even do the job !
Braked towing refers to to a trailer/caravan/etc. that has its own brakes. They get activated when you press the brakes in the car. Thanks for the question Ricky!
I think "range anxiety" is the wrong word. The anxiety is more about "Is there a working charger (I can unlock with my provider(s)) where my battery runs empty?"
Yeah, we agree with you Andi. Suppose the term is so widely used now it hard to ignore even if it is wrong. It's all about the chargers, and being able to top up when needed without any concern. Thanks!
Just seen this video for the first time very useful but now are you out of date so what about doing another round up soon but categorise it to common caravan weight categories. Eg, You've jumped from 900 kilos to 1800 kilos. This misses out 1600 kg max caravans and the Kia EV6 basic models which are somewhat cheaper than the GT. I'm waiting for the new model EV6 GT line s AWD. Should be around £50k many users report 130 miles average range towing the maximum weight.
"Tesla superchargers are everywhere". No, they are not. I live in Catalunya, which has an area that is about twice that of Wales. There are 4 Superchargers... in the richest region in Spain. In fact, Catalunya's GDP per capita is similar to the average GDP per capita in Germany. But we have 1 supercharger per region. It is absolutely pathetic. But there again, I know that Spain its way behind on charging infrastructure, just as it is for renewables (No surprise there, the PP have actively defended fossil fuel generation as far as they possibly can.
A quick look at the Supercharger map suggest a few more than 4, but maybe we're misunderstanding you. Either way, a few extra would be more than welcome! Thanks for the comment David...and hopefully they open up a few more Superchargers soon.
@@BestElectricVehicle I've checked Tesla's own site and there certainly appear to be only 4. In all reality, it doesn't bother me all that much. Having fast chargers certainly isn't that important to me because I am fully aware that I spend far more than 90% of my time within 80 km of my home. My daughter lives about 130km from me, so a 300km range is certainly sufficient for normal situations. The only time I'm likely to need more than the 300km is for holidays. 2 maybe 3 weeks in the year. That just gives me the excuse to spend a bit more time (and, possibly) money in somewhere I've never been. I don't see that as a problem. Quite honestly, it astonishes me that people get so worked up about spending the same for electricity as they would for petrol or diesel, and taking 4 times as long to fill up! Don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in EVs, but using an EV for 1000km journeys should not be considered anything more than an occasional event. If you're expecting to do 1000km in 2 days, get an ICE. Trying to persuade most people otherwise is just plain silly.
what happend to Volvo cx40 ? it can tow 1800kg in tvin engine

Whats the difference between towing braked and towing unbraked?

Where is the VW ID.4? I saw an impressive video of its towing capability.

How about subaru solterra?
Martin this is a year old I think we need an update
This is certainly one area EV's need to improve. For example, the Citroën C4 can tow... but the E-C4 can not tow anything. It has a "zero" rating.
That's an odd one indeed, hopefully they can get it rated for towing sooner rather than later.

The Ford lightning is useless at towing, it's range collapses in reality and has been proven to do so on other RUclips channels.
All EV's collapse with towing. Only cars like the GM's which have 200 KW of battery are decent towing vehicles.
Moistly UK Autos
All rubbish 😡
