    Nice sneaky way of getting more water into Simba by having him "fish" out the minnows ...It was nice to see Splash get a bit into the fun as well..it at least kept the cats attention for a bit.

      Splashie definitely showed his southpaw dominance while investigating these animated fishies, intently examining them in the water; and I noted Simba licking the excess water off his paws even before the Lady tossed in some dried minnows for him. The Boyos' temperamental differences couldn't have been more clearly shown by their responses to these animated toy fish...and I was pleased to see Splash recalling his early fondness for water toys here and return to a past pleasure.
      Strangely, Boo wasn't at all engaged by these toy fishies: I suppose he prefurrs toys that fly to those that swim.

    Definitely some interest there. You find all sorts of things to try with the cats; not a bad idea, it keeps them active, and keeps them from getting bored and maybe finding their own fun.... which may, or may not, be fun for you.
    Jingle would have liked the robo fish. He used to like chasing ice cubes in the water dish when he drank, and he used to try to drink from our dish of radishes in water. And Dad had a deep dish of grapes one day, and watched Jingle figure out how to roll them up and out of the dish 😁.

    Oh cool, this could be neat. I like the tablecloth a lot too.
    My teen mom cat is due in 10 days or less. Gotta get more done to be ready, and hoping for the best for her and her babies. I think I know who one or two of the papas are. My current two (teen mom and a girl almost two now) are apt. parking lot rescues. -- I was so surprised and happy to see one of the strays back around, a big guy at least four to six years old by now. I wish he wanted to stay in. -- A feral who may be the littermate of the teen mom kitty just still refuses to let my hand near. It will soon be a year he or she has been around. A nice ginger tomcat with a collar has been visiting regularly for over a week now. No tags, so I don't know his name or apt. number or owners; I've never seen anyone come looking when he's been by. I'm concerned since he's been by so much lately. He's friendly, still has a collar on, so I've presumed he has a home. -- Lady Feral, your videos have been so helpful in assessing and dealing with and learning about the strays and ferals around here. I've had cats since I was a kid, but even so, you and a few other great RUclipsrs are great sources of inspiration, information, and entertainment.

      Simba: "Ooh, fishy! -- Ooh, wet! -- Well, I'm just gonna watch from over here! Maybe it'll jump out and I can catch it!" :D
      Boo: "Hmm, I shall observe from afar, the crafty hunter jungle panther that I am. -- OK, been there, done that, I'm gonna lie down here." :D
      Stella: "Oh hey, fishy. How did this pond get here? Gotta check this out. Can I get a fish dinner? With hush puppies?" :D
      Splash: "Hi, mom, whatcha -- Oh hey, fishy. Yeah, fish dinner, a little cat grass on the side.... Hey, fun." :D
      Good to see them all have fun watching or batting at the fish. I see Splash stuck around some. Good kitten.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад +1

      Also Splash: "Yikes!" (sproing!) "Hey, wait, maybe I can still get it...." Attaboy, Splashy. Got right back in there. Not so nervous or scared after all, a brave boy sometimes. Good job, Splash. Very good kitty. I'm so glad to see him doing like that.(My non-assertive tuxie had moments where he'd get brave about exploring, or passive-aggressive moments where he'd want to stay out in the yard if he got out, back when I had a house. It could be frustrating getting him back in, but it was always good to see him feel brave and confident and happy.)
      Hey, Stella came back. Good girl.
      Simba's next solution: Well, if I drink some water, maybe I can catch the fish without getting so wet! -- Pretty good reasoning, buddy. It got you to drink more water too. :D All good.

    I woke up late, to my teen mom cat giving birth, beside me on the bed. Good thing I'd thought to put a vinyl tablecloth over the sheets, but everything will still have to be washed, because the plan was not so perfect. -- It's evening. So far, we have four babies and there might be more coming. Everybody appears healthy. I think all the babies are nursing. Mama has eaten some. I will be sleeping nearby on the bed with them tonight and will move them when I'm sure she's all done delivering for now. Hoping they all do well. My other cat has been asking to come in the bedroom, but I'm not comfortable letting her in until I'm more sure how everyone is doing. I'm greatly relieved, except still concerned for all the babies to be delivered and for everyone to make it through the first couple of days, to feel like we'll be OK. Very glad we're good so far. One orange, one brown tabby (or grey tabby), one or two calico or tortoiseshell, not sure yet, and I don't want to disturb mama, she's resting. She is now just about a year old. So glad we've made it through the first several hours.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад

      No other babies forthcoming overnight. I _think_ we're all done with that. One each orange, brown tabby, and two calico. Everyone still seems fine. About 6 hrs. until they're all one day old.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад

      The four kittens are now just over a day old, and babies and mama are doing fine. I moved them into a box (plastic tub) with blanket this morning and changed the bed, plus washed the vinyl tablecloth. I'm going to be adding water to little mama's food, because she isn't drinking enough, and must be outputting a lot in her milk for her babies. So thankful they made it through the first day; now for the first week. My other cat, friendly usually but large, is unhappy for not being allowed in the room for a few more days. She's probably safe with them, but I want them to be older before I try introducing them. I've seen the three most regular outside cats (friendly strays and wary ferals) this week, so I think they're OK. Plus, we finally got some rain over two days, off and on, heavy. Feels like a steam bath out there, even when 90's are normal for this time of year here.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад

      Two days old and still doing fine, babies and mama. Round little tummies and maybe a little growth for the kittens, and yes, mama is hungry. She has taken a couple of short breaks, but is doing fine, I think. I'm keeping watch so I know what's going on. I'm guessing if she had any further babies, then by now, either she would've given birth to them or else I would see signs of problems for her. So I guess I was misreading anything there. She's being a good first time mom. I intend to wait a few more days before letting my other cat (girl) see them, supervised, but I'm hoping that will go fine. I'm having to give her extra attention, because she feels left out, she doesn't understand why the door's closed when ordinarily she can come and go in the bedroom all the time.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад

      The kittens are 6 days old! I woke up during the night with little mama sleeping beside me, taking a short break from her babies. She's had no problems, so my worries over the birth were fine. It looks like one of the kittens isn't calico after all, but a black and white tuxedo kitten! Mostly back down most of the way to the wrists and what would be the ankles. (I know there's a term for that on quadrupeds.) The others are buff-orange, calico, and a brown tabby. No idea yet on gender; they're still small and I don't want to handle them too much. Teen mama is doing great for a first time mom. She's a sweetheart. I held the other cat (a year older girl) to see the kittens, but she hissed, may have thought I was going to put her in the box with them. So we'll do more such short, supervised intros, until I feel better, more sure that she won't be a risk to the kittens, until everyone can reintegrate. She and tee mom kitty have known each other for almost a year now, mostly friendly, both inside, unrestricted until the kittens were born. Older girl does not like or understand not being allowed in the bedroom, so I'm giving her attention when I can. -- The outside strays and ferals are doing OK, but one or two mom cats missed TNR, I _think_ . The two friendly strays keep visiting, and two sorta-kinda "we'll greet you now because we have seen ou are nice and give us food regularly" semi-feral have been by regularly off and on, plus one other feral, and I haven't seen the black-and-white patchy cat in a while. So, about as good as I can hope for. -- We might get rain the next few days, had some rain this past weekend. Steaming hot out even at 7am this morning.

  • @benw9949

    Lady Feral -- What van I do for a dewormer for the outside / feral and stray cats around my apt., feeding at my door? I obviously can't handle the feral or very wary strays to give them pills by mouth, so it would need to be a pill pocket or powder they could take with food, dry or rarely wet. It would need to be over-the-counter from a pet store or online store. Yes, I know you're not a vet. -- My cell phone is still down, although paid up, and my local vet doesn't do house calls. :( So I'm kinda stuck. I'm concerned for the semi-feral semi-regular, whom I've just noticed is pregnant! She's decided she can greet me and meow now, she's decided she likes petting on her terms, but if my hand gets too near or along her back while eating, it still spooks her. There's another great semi-regular tomcat who won't come in and a friendly cat with a collar but who has been coming around once or twice a day for two weeks now. Another cat is semi-regular, but feral, and there's one who was regular, but I haven't seen in a while. So if any of the friendlier ones wanted to come in for shelter in bad weather, they'd need to stay separate from my two cats, but I'd do it, and I'm worried for the mom cat to be, to get enough nutrition for her babies and herself during and after delivery. She's staying somewhere near, on the roof or some cubbyhole around the parking lot. -- And meanwhile, my teen mom cat is due to give birth in less than a week. She's doing fine but I'm nervous. My budget's not good, but we are doing this. So I expect to have her kittens for 6 to 8 weeks, at least. I don't expect to take in the feral expectant mom cat. She hasn't tried to come in (yet). Any suggestions would be helpful. I'll be looking further on Amazon and Petco and Petsmart. Thanks in advance., even if you don't have suggestions or don't feel comfortable doing so with not being a vet. I get that. Thank you!

    Local "Yay, Maybe?" A lady from a TNR group (trap, neuter, return) came by this morning, saw the food bowls, and we discussed the strays and ferals a little. This is not ideal, as they aren't hooked up with a no-kill shelter or rescue to adopt out friendly strays, or to take in pregnant mom cats and adopt out the kittens before the mom is spayed. -- But this means they will try again to get the outdoor cats, get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and return them here. So likely, I will still be feeding the usual suspects. -- I hope this works and I wish this could be more ideal, but I am about to have my teen mom cat with kittens next week, so I'll have my hands full. If I didn't already have two cats, the pet limit, I'd be happy to take in the two friendlies. But it looks like I'll still be feeding them once returned, and I'll shelter the two friendlies if we get foul weather and they want in. I wish I could do more.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад

      Progress! I saw the TNR lady today and got contact info for their organization and gave her a letter about what I know, plus needs for my teen mom kitten and upcoming litter, plus offering to help if I can. One of the strays got fixed and returned, the others are in process if successfully trapped. So not all are TNR'ed yet, but soon. It's a start. They don't test, but I thought I understood they vaccinate. I'll have to recheck on that.

    • @benw9949
      @benw9949 Год назад +1

      I didn't see the TNR lady today, but the three most regular visitors were back for supper. So I think they all three were TNR'ed; I know one was. The feral mom kitty was too skittish after everything, but was glad for the food. I won't know until she greets me, but I presume she did get spayed. (Or else she avoided TNR.) (This group doesn't shelter the moms and adopt out the kittens. :( ) The two friendlies greeted me and even came in for a minute, but went back out. That is progress for them, but they've had homes before. I know the one was neutered. The other, I think may already have been a neutered male. I'll likely know next time I see him and can check. I haven't seen the other two or three who visit occasionally. The two friendlies might make further progress so they'd be welcome to visit, esp. if there's foul weather. The feral girl, I doubt will come in. A semi-friendly girl hasn't been by in a while. -- So, all in all, good news. I'm hoping to hear back from their group soon.
