Yes, I saw that often. He's get in the ring and move great. I also saw how his voice would grow strong and vibrant when he was talking his playful trash about givin' someone a "good whuppin'!"
Sir, good that you never fought Mohammed Ali, both you are great boxers, love for each other is great, very nice, people like minded will be better world, rest in peace, great athletes, love you both, hundred percent.
Yeah, first time I saw him was in a video of Felix Savon's fight. And I totally thought it was Ali next to Castro. But something was off until I read the comments. It's eerie how they look alike.
Muhammad Ali was a modern day Gladiator and he wouldn't stop until he got you. He avenged every loss in his prime and then some. He was the greatest Gladiator in boxing history like it or not. The Thrilla in Manilla was the greatest test of wills of Gladiators. Ali had the determination to reach into his soul for that extra killer instinct. The Greatest.
Mr. Stevenson certainly was one of the greatest heavyweights of all time no matter what class. He was the greatest Olympic and amateur heavyweight of all time. He was a gentleman, had great skill and trained hard. I was a fan and RIP Mr. Stevenson. Muhammad was my favorite athlete of all time. We will never know how this match would have come out. That is probably good because I never wanted to see either man lose.
I’m Cuban and Stevenson is a national hero but I just can’t see how he beats Ali. Frazier nearly killed him in Manila but couldn’t beat him. Stevenson was a spectacular technical boxer but he could not be a killer for 15 rounds like Frazier. Ali would have taken him into deep waters and sunk him.
I remember watching Stevenson in the 1972 Olympics; he was head and shoulders above anyone else there. Would have loved to see him and Ali fight, but I remember Stevenson as a pretty much straight up boxer with a great jab and right cross, and that was the style that generally gave Ali the least trouble.
+buckfan1969 True but Ali never really faced that many pure boxers comparable to his skill level, Ali I think would have won but Stevenson would not have given Ali an easy fight
buckan1969 The NO vietnam ALI was good but not as good than the 60ties one , I followed Stevenson in pure boxe style Stevenson is better boxer than Ali , BUT THE GREATEST IS ALI , so Ali would have won , likely, not sure about that easily Ali is more skilled against rough boxer very strong Foreman , Liston, Cleveland , and weaker against those who have a superb left hook as he is not holding his gloves up , BUT AGAIN IS THE "INTELLIGENCIA "OF ALI to adapt his style towards various opponentswhich made him win often ...He has no fears in top of it of anyone ! WHO KNEW HE WD HAVE USED THE ROBS AGAINST FOREMAN , Too good FLY like a Butterfly .... yes the best dancer ever of the ring !!! and unique style !!!!
If they would have fought it need to be in the early 70s, 72, 73, when Ali was still fairly young. The biggest talk was in 78, but Ali was finished by then.
If they had fought, the fight could have gone either way, but with all due respect to Stevenson, Ali most likely would have won, providing he (Ali) didn't get hit with that right from Stevenson. Ali was a master at slipping punches and would have been too fast for Stevenson. Yes, Ali probably would have won.
I don't think so: Stevenson was used to fight on the 3 rounds. Ali was a professional, and fought on 15 rounds. Stevenson wouldn't have stood a chance against Ali on a 15 rounds schedule.
Two beautiful people n fighters... Another story of Ali delivering humanitarian aid to entire people's... I wonder if we will ever know the full extent of his humanitarian work.. which delivered real help to almost a billion people???
If promoters thought that they could just toss Stevenson straight from the amateurs to a pro fight with Ali they must have just been looking at dollar signs. Stevenson would not have been able to last in a pro fight with Ali. I think there were too many dimensions in Ali's game for Stevenson to handle. Ali had great footwork, he moved, he slipped punches extremely well, he threw punches in bunches, and he could fight 15 rounds. But, apparently, Stevenson didn't need that fight. Nor did Ali.
Stevenson was an awesome fighter. Too bad he never got the money and recognition as a pro but then again money isn't everything as Stevenson was smart enough to realize. he sounds like a good person, as is Ali. Both were great to watch as fighters.
If he was to turn pro, the time for Stevenson would have been 1972-3. The previous two heavyweight gold medallists had gone on to be world champion, as well as the light - heavyweight champion from 1960. (By an odd coincidence, that guy lost his world title to the light - heavyweight champ of the next Olympics.) By 1976, aged 24, he might have been too 'amateur' in his style and mentality. Taking on Ali in his first fight would have been suicidal, a worse fight than the Rademacher - Patterson fiasco of, when, 1957? But had he turned pro 4 years earlier, he'd have been seasoned and ready. By 1977 he'd have been 25, Ali 35.
I believe it would have been the biggest moneymaker at the time... imagine Ali vs. Stevenson in the ring. However, Stevenson would need at least a year (more or less) to train as a professional boxer. Fifteen rounds are no joke, and Ali was a master most of the time (even when he was out of shape) of the 15 round fight. Prior to 1975, Ali would have the edge, but after 1975, Stevenson would have been boxing Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the world. 🌎
Communist Cuba probably did not want the fight - it would have been a great fight - I think Ali would win as I think Foreman would have beaten Stevenson but who knows -
Like all amateurs turning professional he would have started out with some scheduled 6 rounders against cup cakes but gradually start scheduling 10 rounders. After maybe 15 to 20 fights if he is unbeaten then his handlers would start looking for ranked fighters they feel pretty confident he could beat. A title shot would be getting close at this point. This is just a generalization of the typical process. Everyone is different and he could suffer a defeat along the way. Or he could have been so dominant that a title shot came sooner than usual. The worst thing his handlers could do is put him in with an opponent that he wasn't ready for. Many successful amateur fighters obviously go on to very successful pro careers. But that is not always the case. Stevenson had power but could he go strong for 10 plus rounds? Could he win on points against great boxers? Unfortunately we never got to find out. I think he is the most feared amateur boxer ever. Imagine being an 18 year old American national champ and being matched up agInst him in your first international competition. I would piss my trunks before the opening bell looking across the ring at him.
Had Stevenson accepted the multi-million dollar offers, he would have been the Greatest Heavyweight Boxer the world has ever known, and a very rich man.
Wow Mohamed Ali could barely walk , but soon as he enters the ring he was still flying like butterfly !!!!
Rip to both
Yes, I saw that often. He's get in the ring and move great. I also saw how his voice would grow strong and vibrant when he was talking his playful trash about givin' someone a "good whuppin'!"
This is because in Parkinson disease slow motion is most difcult that a fast one.
This brought tears to my eyes. I've always loved both champions.
got teary eyed seeing the Ali and Teofilo sparring in their 50s. What nostalgia that scene brought to many boxing fans like myself
Sir, good that you never fought Mohammed Ali, both you are great boxers, love for each other is great, very nice, people like minded will be better world, rest in peace, great athletes, love you both, hundred percent.
I had never seen Ali and Stevenson together. Thank you.
they look like they can be brothers.
Yeah, first time I saw him was in a video of Felix Savon's fight. And I totally thought it was Ali next to Castro. But something was off until I read the comments. It's eerie how they look alike.
Could be related going back generations.
This video reminds me of how great boxing USED to be. This was the golden age of heavyweight boxing. RIP.
Respect to both legends as boxer and as human humane being, spectators delight they were and will be always, God bless their family.

Its called the amateurs for a reason. 😅
great video for two great men......
gracias.
AWESOME VIDEO.

Uff i dont rally know... Stevenson have a superpowerfull right hand ...
Ali with one hand !
Stevenson was domesticated by Fidel Castro

Teofilo Stevenson looks like Muhammad Ali.
Stevenson more handsome. Guy looked like a lighter skinned Sidney Poitier.
I don't think so: Stevenson was used to fight on the 3 rounds. Ali was a professional, and fought on 15 rounds. Stevenson wouldn't have stood a chance against Ali on a 15 rounds schedule.

it makes me cry watching Ali n Teo bouncing around that ring together. no sport quite like it.

Ali an American Teo a Cuban but brothers nonetheless
Teo would have beaten Ali if he enter professional but he was loyal to his country.
