Over 6 months have passed since I took the first steps of getting my rare Mitsubishi Magna Ralliart resprayed. The first painter ended up taking me for a ride, taking my money and leaving me with a half-finished car that he'd done a half-arsed job on. This broke my heart and ruined my budget, and so I let the car sit under a cover for another 3 months.
In early 2024, I decided that the car needed to get finished - and I pulled out all the stops to raise the funds and then find someone who could do it for me.

@@MotoringBoxTVAWD would have made these car's one of the top collector's edition if it was AWD ralliart but as you mentioned the budget was tight although i think in a few years these car's will be extremely collectable because of their ozzie build. It usually takes around 30+ year's after manufacturing for price's to begin to take off.

I had a car resprayed years ago by a family friend, promised me a bare metal full respray in 4 weeks. This guy had a fairly decent workshop and name and being a family friend you would think he looked after me but after 6 months and seeing the car sit in primer for months I felt much like you and got pretty upset with him demanding my car to be finished and returned. The feeling you get when you see your car just painted and in the booth is incredible so I understand the highs and lows you been through but in the end I had a bloody awesome paint job and a car that turned heads so all the ill feelings I had disappeared and I think you will be the same. Great to see a happy ending to this and I’m sure just like myself you have learnt a thing or two along the journey.

Nice work! I had a 99 Cocoon white TH Altera. Had it 10yrs from 2003 until. 2013. Bought a Cocoon white 2000 TJ in 2013 for $3000. Swapped a few bits over. Wave spring failed and destroyed the gearbox at 140,000km. Fitted one of the last Mitsubishi factory reconditioned boxes for $2500. Replaced the hood lining and got some new old stock Outlsnder rims cheap from a dealership. Still got it and is at 185,000km. For a 28yo car, it’s still neat and tidy and comfortable ride. Hopefully I can keep it rolling until the time when EVs actually become an economically viable option. Keep up the good work and vids. ✊

Awesome Sean so happy for you mate. Don't apologise mate as we'll all be here when you're ready .. Shout out to Harley for looking after you what a beautiful job he's done. I don't know how many mates cars and cars I've read about over the years where the nightmare for a car project all began with a shoddy panel beater and a car has sat in a shop sometimes for years with nothing happening. Hope good Karma comes Harley's way and he picks up plenty of work from this job.. Can't wait to see her all schmicked up and gleaming in that hot Queensland sun..

It's good to see you making some process on the Magna. One thing I hate about leaving cars in primer for long periods of time is it makes them highly vulnerable to rust.

Sean, omg, this video even made me emotional, as I can tell it did for you too. I am genuinely so, so happy for you though that you found a body shop that has come to your rescue and has performed such good work. Up and up from here mate! Seriously can’t wait for the next installment of this one, I love that Magna! Keep up the great work mate!

Congrats on finding a tradesperson with a good attitude. Spent $30k on a huge driveline rebuild, the car was a tribute to my late father who started me on Ford V8's , fourth time getting gearbox taken out for issues, now closing in on $7000. Had to rebuild the brake upgrade myself as the 'professional' put the lines on back the front, and just too many other similar stories all from a mechanic with a 'good reputation for old Fords. I also lost some OEM parts to this mechanic who closed his doors shortly after I started making noise about the problems I was having, leaving no email or contact number. All the best, regards Cameron, Sydney.

This is my first time seeing your channel, the quality of your videos are fantastic!
I’ve been in the exact same situation as you unfortunately. Took my car to a recommended workshop where the price seemed too good to be true. Drove past for weeks with no progress and constant excuses etc, eventually got the car back and it all has to be redone.
Glad you got a good result in the end.

I been wondering what has been going on with the mighty Magna. So glad you are back on track. So good to see you save a little piece of Australian Motoring history, the time when we designed and built cars. Sad that they will never return. From me, thanks.

What a turnaround! Be proud of pushing through and finding someone who got what it needed and worked with you. Plus obviously the investment from the home account; I hope it gets enough interest to help pay that back, because the result of where you've got the car is great.
