Thanks...First time owner of WCS having had labaradors all my life.. 😮 I did try too much too soon and now at 7 months all I'm concentrating on is lead walking, recall, sit and wait....gone back to basics and taking it slowly has really helped...we start gun dog training in April having realised I need to work with someone who understands the breed..he is a lovely loving little dog and gives me so much joy...I laugh constantly

    Hi totally agree
We have trained , dobermans , Alsatian’s , labradors to very high standards , but being a no all we bought a gun dog , well Cant agree more these need specialist training , and at least treble the amount of time spent as you would on other dogs to get a obedient , totally trustworthy dogs , a great breed , lovely dog to have around but they will suck you in make you think you are in control and then show you you ain’t controlling me !!! Novice beware , restrict their freedom , train little and often , patience you will need it , make it fun , and watch this man and get a proper working trainers help ❤❤❤ top work and many thanks for your help ❤👍👍👍👍

Hey Chris, here’s my entry for your latest competition giveaway for the puppy/intermediate pack.
This video & also “training my spaniel in the first 18 months” I’d say are my favourite videos. Like with all your videos these both are extremely informative, as a first time dog owner you’ve reassured us on making the right decision, put our mind at ease & taken us through some vital points for what to expect and also realistic expectations. Love your approach to your teaching & how you work with the dogs, keep up the great content mate 👍

first time ecs owner here. when i first got mine i allowed him to range out too far and also was training him to range out as a dove retriever. now i'm struggling to keep him close to use him as a flusher. he is almost 2. got some great ideas from some of your videos.

Really great advice … I started training my WCS from 8 weeks… all going well until I had a spell in hospital which set things back plus she’s taken a while to mature. The saying ‘train the dog in front of you’ is so true in her case - she’s like no other dog I’ve had! We’re on the right track again now. Thanks for the videos, they’re brilliant.

In the 1980's our school class went to go see working spaniels in action. At such a young age I will never forget the old gentlemen showing us his working cockers and springer doing their jobs. The man was in his 80's, still breeding spaniels and telling us how this larger springers and the small cockers came from the same litter. He was still breeding spaniels as his dad and granddad did, before people started spilting the two spaniels breeds. This man was breeding for the spaniels working ability, not size. Now that cockers and springers are bred for "breed" size they have different hunting styles to their breed standard. Also where and how people hunt has changed over the years. Even the man with his springers and cockers still went out on hunts, even through he was in his 80s. I don't know anyone today that does that.

Yeah…Beau is nearly a year old now…we have the sit ..easy from a young age…the wait…for food….going through gates..out the door …and we do it out and about at Random..we’ve got the retrieve now after months of trying with him running off with the ball…but he’s still a bugger at the ‘wait’ b4 retrieval..We want him to ‘go’ on our command and not before…we have not progressed onto dummy’s yet and I suppose we should have before now…that will be the next challenge! Oh..he’s on the whistle …very good when no other dogs about! Blasted nightmare otherwise…and the birds..loves chasing them…he does come back eventually….. think we have work to do! 😂

Great advice. Listen to this man and follow his advice. Ignore it at your peril and end up with a half trained lunatic Cocker.
